While Pride Month parades have been put on hold throughout the world, the 48-year-old Puerto Rican superstar is helping the LGTBQ+ community celebrate in a special way.
P&G and iHeartMediahave joined forces for “Can’t Cancel Pride: A COVID-19 Relief Benefit for the LGBTQ+ Community.”
The special will raise funds for LGTBQ+ communities most impacted by COVID-19.
It will stream on Thursday, June 25 at 9:00 pm PT on iHeartRadio’s Facebook and Instagram, PrideRadio.com and broadcast on iHeartMedia stations nationwide.
In addition to Martin, the event will feature appearances by Billy Porter, Big Freedia,Adam Lambert, Melissa Etheridge, Katy Perry, Kim Petras, Sia among others. The celebration will culminate with a one-hour special hosted by leading iHeartMedia on-air personality Elvis Duran and actress and LGBTQ+ advocate Laverne Cox.
“There’s no question COVID-19 has impacted the LGBTQ+ community in a variety of ways, and at this time in the U.S., the struggle for equality and inclusion has never been more important,” said Gayle Troberman, Chief Marketing Officer for iHeartMedia. “Now is a time we need to come together to support the organizations that help bring critical resources to LGBTQ people in need and Can’t Cancel Pride aims to do just that. Like always, Pride will continue to represent the resilience, beauty and strength of the LGBTQ+ community around the nation and the globe.”
Martin publicly came out as gay in March 2010, stating: “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.” He added that “these years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within, and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn’t even know existed.” He has since been a dynamic activist for the LGBTQ+ community.

Mariah Careyis lightin’ up the holidays in a big way…
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of her Merry Christmas album and its iconic single “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100this week, the 49-year-old half-Venezuelan American singer dropped by the Empire State Building to flip the switch to the top of the legendary skyscraper’s brand new music-to-light show with Carey’s insta-classic holiday track at the heart of it.
Designed by Marc Brickman, the lights of the NYC landmark will correspond with the notes of her holiday hit — which will play simultaneously on iHeartMedia New York’s Z100, Power 105.1, 103.5 KTUand 106.7 Lite FM starting at 8:00 pm from Thursday through Christmas Day.
“Each year, the Empire State Building partners with iHeartRadio to celebrate the holiday season with a spectacular LED music-to light show,” said Jean-Yves Ghazi, the President of the Empire State Building observatory, said by way of Carey’s introduction. “This year, we’re delighted to be syncing our tower of lights and counting down to Christmas with this holiday classic that’s also celebrating reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 on its 25th anniversary.”
Billboard‘s Hannah Karp and Gary Trust were also on hand to celebrate the occasion and present Carey with an award for her most recent Billboardchart accomplishment.
“Topping the Billboard charts is nothing new for Mariah: until this week, she had had 18 songs reach No. 1 on our Hot 100 chart, which is more than any other female solo artist,” said Karp. “But it’s extremely rare for a Christmas song to top the Hot 100, and it’s equally tough to crack the Christmas market with an original tune that can outsell or outstream traditional carols.”
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 25 years after its initial release; it had previously broken into the top 10 in 2017 and rose as high as No. 3 in 2018, and Carey is elated to add this particular song to her collection of No. 1s.
“We definitely wanted to kick it into high gear this year with the song to celebrate the 25th anniversary, but I definitely didn’t expect it to hit No. 1 two weeks before Christmas!” she told Billboard shortly after hearing the news on Monday. “I just want to thank everybody. I want the world to have the best holiday ever.”
The 27-year-old Mexican rising star, whose real name is Alexander García, has been honored by SoundExchange as one of digital radio’s top 20 breakout artists of 2017.
El Fantasma placed seventh on the list — the top Latin artist in the tally — behind Julia Michaels and Harry Styles and ahead of Noah Cyrus and Bad Bunny.
“We’re not celebrating yet. We’re looking ahead,” said a smiling El Fantasma, whose nickname comes from his fair complexion.
El Fantasma was feted by SoundExchange’s Matthew Limones at a private luncheon in Las Vegas two days before the Latin Grammy awards, where he’s nominated for his first Latin Grammy in the Best Banda album category for En El Camino.
SoundExchange’s honors are based on play on outlets like Pandora, SiriusXM, iHeartRadio and Music Choice.
This week, El Fantasma also placed his fifth single on the Top 10 of Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart.
Despite the power of reggaetón and urban music, Regional Mexican continues to be a driving force in digital radio, said Limones, noting that Christian Nodal also made the Top 20 list, at No 17.
As for El Fantasma, he’s continuing to break the mold with music that’s strongly tied to his roots and which has cross-generational appeal.
“I like to film all my videos in Durango de la Sierra,” he says, referring to his birth town. “I don’t like to show mansions or stuff like that. My corridos talk about people who wake up to drink coffee in the morning, who work the fields. Everybody deserves their own corrido.”
The 26-year-old half-Mexican American actor is set to co-host #Up2Us: Stand Up To Cancer | The Digital Live Showalongside Max Greenfield and Brenda Song.
It’s Stand Up to Cancer’s first live digital pre-show on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and iHeartMedia’s social platforms.
Thebiennial fundraising event will begin at 7 PM ET/ 4 PM PT on Friday, September 7, leading into the 2018 televised roadblock special, which airs live from 8-9 PM ET/PT / 7 PM CT across the Big Four networks and more than 60 other broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. Both will originate from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.
The hour-long Digital Live Show will feature cancer survivors, influencers and stars from digital, TV, film, and music, including Rhett + Link, Uzo Aduba,Beth Behrs, Paris Berelc, Katie Couric, Hannah Hart, Olivia Holt, Ken Jeong, Liza Koshy, My Nguyen, Teni Panosian,Candice Patton, Andrea Russett, iHeartRadio’sJoJo Wright, Mackenzie and Maddie Ziegler. The 19-year-old Cuban-American singer and member of Fifth Harmony has left the all-girl group.
In a message posted on social media and signed by “Ally, Normani, Dinah and Lauren,” the group writes, “After four and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony. We wish her well.”
The remaining members, Ally Brooke Hernandez, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen and Lauren Jauregui, state that they will continue the group as a foursome.
As recently as December 9, when the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball tour hit New York City, the group had announced plans to release a new album. Kordei told radio personality Elvis Duran, “2017, it’s going to be popping,” and Jane Hansen added, “The third album is definitely going to be so lit. We’re really excited.”
Fifth Harmony was formed by Simon Cowell on the second season of the The X Factor US in July 2012. In January 2013, they signed a joint deal with Syco Music, owned by Cowell, and Epic Records, L.A. Reid‘s record label, after finishing in third place on the show.
To date, The group has sold 424,000 albums, 7 million digital songs and earned 1.6 billion on-demand streams in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music.
Their honors include three MTV Video Music Awards, an American Music Award, a Billboard Women in Music award and seven Teen Choice Awards.
