DreamWorks Animation Developing Sequel to Pedro Pascal-Starrer “The Wild Robot”

Pedro Pascal may be returning to the wild soon…

After crossing $100M globally last weekend, The Wild Robot filmmaker Chris Sanders has confirmed that a sequel to the film, which features the 49-year-old Chilean actor in the voice cast, is currently in development at DreamWorks Animation.

Pedro Pascal“100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one,” Sanders has confirmed.

Three-time Oscar nominee Sanders—the writer-director of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your DragonThe Croods and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch — directed the animated feature from a screenplay he also penned. The film is produced by Jeff Hermann/

In the film, which is an adaptation of Peter Brown’s award-winning bestseller of the same name, Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o plays a robot called ROZZUM unit 7134 — “Roz” for short — that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.

The Wild RobotThe Wild Robot is the first in the trilogy of books written by Brown. The Wild Robot Escapes is the second book in the franchise.

Discussing the inspiration behind her vocal performance in the film, Nyong’o joked that she took notes from “AI voices like Alexa and Siri.”

“Alexa, Siri and you know those voices on TikTok and Instagram that are so positive and nothing’s ever wrong. That sort of can-do attitude,” she said. “That was the starting point for Roz and her journey to self-actualization and evolution of self-expression.”

Universal/DreamWorks Animation launched the film earlier this month. The Wild Robot also features the voices of Pascal, Catherine O’Hara, Stephanie Hsu and Bill Nighy.

Ferrera Signs with Creative Artists Agency (CAA)

It’s official! America Ferrera is a creative artist

The 29-year-old Honduran American actress and former Ugly Betty star has officially signed with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

America Ferrera

Before making move, Ferrera had been with ICM Partners for the past two-and-a-half years and had previously worked with Endeavor/WME.

Following her breakthrough performance in the indie drama Real Women Have Curves, Ferrera rose to superstar status on television as the lead of the ABC dramedy Ugly Betty, which earned her an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Most recently, she has appeared in a recurring role on CBS’ drama The Good Wife.

For most of the past three years, since the series end of Ugly Betty, Ferrera had been focused on features and finishing college as her USC studies were interrupted by her casting on the ABC series.

Ferrera is attached to star in and executive produce Damascus, a one-hour drama set at CBS with put pilot commitment. Penned by Nick Osborne, it tells the story of a crusading nun (Ferrera) who practices law on behalf of the less fortunate.

Ferrera’s feature credits also include Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and How To Train Your Dragon franchises, as well as the upcoming Cesar Chavez: An America Hero.

The sequel takes place five years after the 2010 original — a half-billion-dollar global sleeper for DreamWorks Animation — and Toothless the dragon’s human Hiccup is decidedly in teenager mode.

The first pic boasted a soaring 98% positive reviews score en route to an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature and director Dean DeBlois is back.

Along with Ferrera, the voice cast includes Jay Baruchel, Kristen Wiig, Gerald Butler, Jonah Hill and Craig Ferguson.

The sequel is set to hit theaters next summer.
