Los Tigres del Norte Preparing to Perform in London for First Time

Los Tigres del Norte are preparing for a European first…

The legendary norteño band will be visiting London, England, for the first time ever.

Los Tigres del NorteIt’s a special trip the band’s bass guitarist Hernán Hernández describes as “something new for us and I’m a little nervous but at the same time, I have good vibes.”

Los Tigres del Norte, who have been hitting the recording studio in hopes of releasing new music very soon, recently made history in Texas.

Earlier in March, the band broke its own stadium attendance record at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

As part of their Siempre Contigo tour, the renowned norteño band made a pit stop at the rodeo’s Go Tejano Day, where they drew an audience of 75,595 at the sold-out NRG Stadium. Los Tigres broke its own 2019 record by topping it with nine more attendees this year.

“This is the fifth time that we come here to Houston, it’s very exciting,” accordion player and vocalist Jorge Hernández tells Billboard. “[Fans] encourage me to do something more. Next time we come here, we have a better show for them. It’s our responsibility.”

“Our songs have a lot of meaning for the Hispanic people who live in the United States or the ones who come from another country to the U.S.,” bass guitarist Hernán elaborates. “Singing for them is like giving them something related to where they come from, how hard it’s for them to live here. A lot of people are undocumented and our songs carry those messages, and I think that’s something very special for us.”

At the Houston Rodeo, the group known as The Voice of the People performed a one-hour set of its biggest corridos, norteño and cumbia songs.

“When we come to these types of shows, we know there’s going to be a lot of families. I even think about my own kids,” Hernán expresses. “It’s a way for the new generation to know who Los Tigres del Norte are because I know their families know about Los Tigres. It’s a very nice feeling.”

Cardi B Breaks RodeoHouston Attendance Record

Yeehaw! Cardi B is the RodeoHouston Queen…

The 26-year-old half-Dominican American rap sensation recently broke the attendance record at the Houston Rodeo, and she’s crediting the late Selena Quintanilla for giving her courage to make it happen.

Wearing a pink and blue sequence cowgirl outfit, the “Please Me” rapper performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeoat NRG Stadiumon Friday (March 1), breaking an attendance record once held by Garth Brooks

Cardi B’s performance drew a record 75,580 fans — only three more concert-goers than Brooks’ previous record.

On Saturday, Cardi B posted a video on Instagram from backstage at the rodeo, where she credited the success of her performance to the late Reina de la Musica Tejana

“I was so nervous to perform in front of 70,000-plus people, but when I saw this picture, like, out of all the outfits that she wore, for me to see this picture with this outfit — this was the inspiration for ‘Please Me’ — I knew I was going to be alright,” the rapper said, pointing to a photo of Selenahanging on the wall.

Cardi B concluded the IGclip by shouting out her love for Selena before singing and dancing along to the singer’s hit song “Como La Flor.”

Cardi B’s record-setting Houston Rodeo performance coincided with the release of her “Please Me” music video with Bruno Mars, where she and the crooner meet up at an after-hours taco spot in Los Angeles.

In the “Please Me” video, Cardi B is wearing a revealing black and purple outfit resembling the one Quintanilla donned during her iconic performance at the Memorial Coliseumin Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1993.

Prince Royce Pays Tribute to Selena Quintanilla at RodeoHouston

The 29-year-old Dominican American bachata singer, the first-ever tropical artist to perform at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo concert, honored Selena Quintanilla through song Tuesday night at NRG Stadium.

Prince Royce performed Selena’s “No Me Queda Más,” a tribute made even more meaningful, as it marked the 24th anniversary of Selena’s performance at the Houston Rodeo, the last concert of her life (February 26, 1995).

In addition to his Selena tribute, Prince Royce’s performance included the songs “Darte Un Beso,” “Stand By Me,” “Corazón Sin Cara,” “La Carretera,” “Soy El Mismo,” “Back It Up,” “Adicto,” “El Clavo” and “Bubalú,” taking his fans from danceable bachata to the most popular urban sounds in both English and Spanish.

Royce was also accompanied by an eight-piece live band.

RodeoHouston began in January of 1931 and the first show was held in April of 1932. It is considered to be the city’s signature event.

Kacey Musgraves Latest Artist to Cover Selena’s Iconic Hit “Como La Flor”

Selena Quintanilla’s legacy lives on through her music, which continues to be performed by some unlikely artists…

Country singer Kacey Musgraves, who picked up four Grammys this year, including Album of the Year, surprised her fans with a cover of Selena’s “Como La Flor” at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on Monday night.

Donning bell bottoms, her signature big hair and some serious Spanish-speaking skills, Musgraves’ performance hit close to home; Selena’s iconic concert, during which she wore a sparkly purple jumpsuit and red lipstick, took place at the Astrodome 24 years ago.

The February 26, 1995 show marked Selena’s third, and final, RodeoHouston appearance.

Selena gave her final live performance on February 26th, 1995, at the Houston Astrodome with nearly 67,000 in attendance. A live recording of the show (Live! The Last Concert) concludes with “Como la Flor,” which had been a massive hit for Selena (credited to Selena y Los Dinos) in 1992. One month after the Houston performance, she was murdered by her former fan club president Yolanda Saldívar. Her impact is still being felt nearly a quarter century later — in Musgraves’ performance, the awed Houston crowd sings along with a mix of reverent emotion and enthusiastic glee.

Selena’s sister approved of Musgraves’ tribute.

“Awww this makes me wanna shed a tear! Takes me back,” she wrote on Instagram. “A Big Big Thank you @spaceykacey for the love at the Houston Rodeo tonite with that SELENA Y LOS DINOSJam!”
