Bad Bunny’s “Dakiti,” Featuring Jhay Cortez, Becomes First Latin Song to Simultaneously Rule Billboard Global 200 & Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Charts

Bad Bunny’s latest single is officially a global phenomenon…

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer’s new track “Dakiti,” featuring Jhay Cortez, becomes the first Latin music hit to simultaneously rule both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.

The song ascends to its first week atop the former and leads the latter list for a second week.

The two charts, dated November 21, premiered in September and rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S.

Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

A week after Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez’s “Dakiti” debuted on the Billboard Global 200 at No. 2, the song ascends to No. 1 with 110.2 million streams (up 32%) and 4,000 downloads sold (down 33%) globally in the week ending November 12.

The worldwide streaming sum for the song is the second-greatest in the Global 200’s brief history, bested only by the 123.8 million for “Lovesick Girls” by South Korea’s BLACKPINK‘s (October 17).

Hawái” by Maluma bounds 9-3 on the Global 200, surpassing its prior No. 4 high, with 85.7 million streams (up 53%) and 6,000 sold (up 149%). Its remix with The Weeknd was released November 5.

Following its arrival at No. 1 a week earlier, Bad Bunny and Cortez’s “Dakiti” retains its coveted rank atop the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart with 88.6 million streams (up 44%) and 1,000 downloads sold (down 12%) in territories outside the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 12.

Maluma’s “Hawái” jumps 6-2 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, where it spent a week at No. 1 in September, with 68.8 million streams (up 41%) and 3,000 sold (up 223%) outside the U.S. in the latest tracking week.

Thanks to “Dakiti” and “Hawái,” Latin music hits rank at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously on the Global Excl. U.S. chart for the first time.

Maluma Releases Bilingual “Hawái” Remix, Featuring The Weeknd

Maluma’s is (re)mixing things up with The Weeknd

The 26-year-old Colombian singer/songwriter has joined voices with the Canadian singer on a remix of Maluma’s chart-topping single “Hawái.”

Maluma x The Weeknd

On Wednesday, Maluma and The Weeknd surprised fans by announcing the collaboration, sharing a photo together across social media.

Less than 24 hours later, the bilingual “Hawái” remix and accompanying video officially dropped via Sony Music Latin/RCA Records.

Marking their first-ever collaboration, The Weeknd kicks off the remix by singing in English. “So now he’s your heaven? You’re lying to yourself and him to make me jealous / You put on such an act when you’re sleeping together / All this cause I said I don’t want marriage,” he croons before flaunting the infectious chorus in Spanish. This also marks the first time the Canadian singer has sung in Spanish.

“I have always admired The Weeknd so it feels nothing short of a dream come true to have him collab on ‘Hawái’ remix,” Maluma said in a press statement. “He brought another flow to it and sang in both Spanish and English which is impressive.”

Co-written by Maluma alongside Keityn, Edgar Barrera, and Bull Nene and produced by Rude Boy, the romantic urban bop, originally released in July, is about a relationship that couldn’t work out and one of the exes “moved on” but it’s all an act.

The original music video, filmed in Miami by Jessy Terrero of Cinema Giants, shows Maluma arguing with his girlfriend, breaking up, a confrontation at her wedding with another man, and a surprising plot twist. The remix video, also at the helm of Terrero, was filmed in Los Angeles and features both artists.

“Hawái” is currently in its ninth week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. The song earned Maluma just his second No. 1 on the list among his 40 chart entries.

Maluma Releases Surprise New Album “Papi Juancho”

Maluma’s earning extra papi points…

The 26-year-old Colombian singer/songwriter has surprised the world with the release of his latest album, Papi Juancho, which was released at midnight on August 21.

Maluma

Maluma, who was recently named to Variety’s Power of Your Hollywood list, recorded most of the set during the COVID-19-imposed lockdown with his longtime producer collaborators and co-writers The Rude Boyz (Kevin ADG and Chan “El Genio”).

“All I could do during lockdown in Medellin was work alone in my studio,” Maluma told Billboard in an exclusive interview. “That’s why this album has so much of my true essence; because I did so much of it alone.”

Papi Juancho, a title that plays off of Maluma’s nickname of “Juancho” (short for Juan Luis), features a handful of duets with old and new school reggaetón stars, from Ñejo y Dálmata to Myke Towers and Yandel. But the bulk of the songs are pure Maluma, ranging from romantic to raunchy street, experimenting with new, acoustic sounds and, as usual, boasting deceptively simple lyrics that evoke conversations with friends.

The 22-track album has plenty of hits, as well as a few hidden gems, like the must-hear tracks “Medallo City,” “Hawái,the first single release off the album, “Vete Vete,”featuring Ñejo y Dalmata, and “Madrid.”

Maluma is a wedding crasher…

The 26-year-old Colombian/songwriter singer has released his new single “Hawái,” along with the track’s drama-filled music video.

Maluma

The song finds Maluma heartbroken and plotting his next move to get his lady back — even if that means crashing her wedding.

Produced by Rude Boyz, the melodious pop song was penned by Maluma, KeitynEdgar Barrera and Bulle Nene with lyrics set in present day that tell the story of a toxic relationship and the aftermath of a breakup in the Instagram era.

“Stop lying to yourself, the photo you put up with him saying he was your everything, I know you only posted it to make me jealous,” Maluma sings.

Maluma wrote the storyline for music video, which was shot in Miami. The action-packed video, directed by Jessy Terrero of Cinema Giants, opens with a scene of Maluma arguing with his girlfriend. After the huge blow up, they go their separate ways. On her wedding day to another man, he crashes the ceremony hoping she’ll take him back. And, the video ends with a plot twist.

“Hawái” follows Maluma’s chart-topping “ADMV” single which scored him his 16th No. 1 on Billboard’Latin Airplay chart. “ADMV” was also penned by Maluma and Barrera along with Vicente Barcoand Miky La Sensa.

The tracks drop ahead of Maluma’s forthcoming album, slated to be released later this year, according to Maluma.

In an interview with Apple Music, he said, “I didn’t know that I was about to release an album this year because all of these things are happening.”

Adding, “my first album [this year] is about to come. I had this chance to know myself again in this crazy sh– that is going on. So, I decided to make the music that I just wanted to do. “Hawái” for sure is the first single of my new album.”
