Vargas to Pen Memoir About Her Struggle with Alcoholism

Elizabeth Vargas is preparing to open up about her ‘dark double life’…

The 51-year-old half-Puerto Rican television journalist, an anchor for ABC’s newsmagazine 20/20, will be writing a memoir about her struggle with alcoholism.

Elizabeth Vargas

Vargas’ untitled book will be published by Grand Central Publishing in the spring of 2016.

News of Vargas’ battle with the disease went public in late 2013 when it was reported that she had entered a rehab facility for treatment. She spoke openly about her struggle with addiction during an appearance on Good Morning America in January 2014.

Grand Central, in an announcement, says Vargas will give a “no-holds-barred account” of how she turned to alcohol to cope with crippling anxiety attacks, the double life she led as an alcoholic and her time in rehab.

Vargas also hopes to provide “solace and guidance” to others suffering from the disease.

“When I first began to worry about my own drinking, I turned to books other women had written about their own alcoholism,” said Vargas. “I learned I was not alone, and it helped me find the courage to reach out and get help. I have spent my entire life telling other peoples’ stories. This one is my own, and is incredibly personal: the burden and the loneliness of the secret drinker. If just one other person can relate to it, it will make my own story worth writing, and I will have paid the gift forward.”

Pope Francis Named to Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating People of the Year List

Since being proclaimed the new leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis has captivated the world with his charm and humility… And, now the first Pope of the Americas has been named one of this year’s most fascinating people.

The 76-year-old Argentinean church leader, whose birth name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, has been named to Barbara Walters list of the Most Fascinating People of the Year, the broadcast journalist’s annual batch of the people who’ve enthralled the masses during the past year.

Pope Francis

In March, Pope Francis was chosen to lead the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics as the first pontiff from Latin America.

Bergoglio, the first non-European pope in nearly 1,300 years, is the first pontiff to pick the name Francis, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, revered among Catholics for his work with the poor.

One month later, Time magazine named him to its list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Walters’ other picks include Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lawrence, the cast of A&E‘s Duck Dynasty, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and Duchess Kate and Prince William’s baby George.

Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year will air on December 18 at 9:30 pm ET on ABC.

Walters will unveil her pick for most fascinating person during the 90-minute special.

Gomez’s New Album “Stars Dance” Headed to No. 1 on the Billboard Charts

Selena Gomez is soaring to the top of the Billboard charts…

The half-Mexican American singer/actress, who just celebrated her 21st birthday on July 22, is likely to earn her first No. 1 album next week.

Selena Gomez

Her latest album, Stars Dance, should debut atop the Billboard 200 with approximately 90,000 to 100,000 copies sold in the week ending Sunday, July 28, according to Industry sources.

The set is Gomez’s fourth studio album, and was released on Tuesday, July 23 via Hollywood Records.

The new Billboard 200 chart’s top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, July 31.

If Stars Dance records sales of more than 78,000, it will mark Gomez’s largest sales week ever.

Her last album, 2011’s When the Sun Goes Down (credited to Selena Gomez and the Scene), arrived with a career-high week of 78,000 — according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It debuted at No. 4, rising to No. 3 a week later. Since her 2009 debut, Kiss and Tell, Gomez has been steadily improving in terms of chart rank and debut sales frames. Kiss started at No. 9 with just under 66,000. The following year, A Year Without Rain opened at No. 4 with a little over 66,000.

Gomez’s new album is powered by her biggest single yet, “Come & Get It.” It peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on Pop Songs chart. Gomez has been making the promotion rounds during the album’s release week as well. She played The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Tuesday and then hits both Good Morning America and Live With Kelly and Michael on Friday.

Lovato Releasing “Made in the USA” as Her Next Single

Demi Lovato is officially Made in America

The 20-year-old part-Mexican singer/actress and The X Factor judge has officially set “Made In The USA” as the second single to her fourth studio album, Demi. It will follow “Heart Attack,” Lovato’s second Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (following 2011’s “Skyscraper” in 2011).

Demi Lovato

“Made In The USA” will hit Top 40 radio on June 27, on the same day that Lovato will appear and perform on Good Morning America as part of their Summer Concert series. One week later, the singer will play the annual Philly 4th of July Jam alongside John Mayer, the Roots, Jill Scott and more.

Although a date hasn’t been set for the release of the official “Made In The USA” music video, which Lovato co-directed, the clip apparently includes “some special surprise actors,” according to a press release.

“Made In The USA” is an uptempo, red-white-and-blue-tinged celebration of everlasting love.

Carey to Release Her Fourteenth Album This Summer

Prepare for new Mariah Carey music in July…

The 43-year-old half-Venezuelan American singer and former American Idol judge will be releasing her fourteenth studio album on July 23, with Island Def Jam confirming the date.

Mariah Carey

“The New Era Begins.. 7/23 #MC723,” posted Carey to her 11 million Twitter followers.

The album has been previewed by Carey’s duet with Miguel, “#Beautiful,” which reaches No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.

Carey’s new album follows 2009’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, which featured the single “Obsessed” and has sold 546,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Carey also released a new holiday album, Merry Christmas II You, in 2010.

Last week, Carey officially announced that she wouldn’t be returning to the American Idol judges panel, after starring on the show alongside Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson this season.

Instead, Carey’s focus will be her solo career: the singer has performed “#Beautiful” on Good Morning America and at the Hot 97 Summer Jam.

“#Beautiful” marks Carey’s 27th Top 10 hit on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart — the fourth most Top 10s all-time on the tally for a female.

Carey will perform on NBC‘s Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular on July 4, and will embark on a world tour beginning in October, although dates have yet to be announced

Sales of Fergie’s Latest Wet n Wild Product to Benefit amfAR

Fergie isn’t just a “Glamorous” songstress… She’s also a socially conscious entertainer who is (wet n) wild about giving back to the community.

The 37-year-old part-Mexican singer and Black Eyed Peas member, who recently announced she’s expecting her first child with husband Josh Duhamel, launched the new lip colour she developed with Wet n Wild this week, adding that she’s added a charitable component to her cosmetics line.

Fergie

Called Perfect Pout V.I. Pink, the shimmery pink shade will benefit the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) with 50 cents from each $3.49 product benefitting the cause.

“For me, it was really important to have a charitable component to my cosmetics line,” Fergie told WWD. “I did the MAC Viva Glam campaign [in 2008], and I was very inspired by the cause and motivated to do something myself. Wet n Wild has been amazing, and we’ve really pushed this forward and embraced it with open arms.”

Fergie's Wet n Wild Lip Color Line

To coincide with the product launch, Fergie invited her Twitter followers to Times Square in New York City this week. During the event the singer helped make over three Good Morning America viewers.

The singer used the cosmetics from her CenterStage colour collection to transform the selected members of the public.

“We really wanted to include social media with this,” Fergie said. “ [This cause is] very close to my heart.”

Fergie was named beauty ambassador for the American cosmetics company last year.

In addition to her make-up line, Fergie has been keeping busy working on her fragrances with Avon. Her latest scent for the brand is Viva, which she described as “very fresh, clean and crisp”.

She plans to branch into more product categories in the future, but says her immediate priority is preparing for her new arrival.

“I have my hands and plate full now,” Fergie laughed. “Being pregnant, it’s great to do a lot of work from home. I do it being comfortable and not worrying about hair and make-up. As far as what I’m going to do when the child comes? I have no idea what I’m going to tell you.”

Bryan Claims Final Spot on Dancing with the Stars All-Star Edition

Sabrina Bryan lives to (ballroom) dance another day…

The 27-year-old half-Mexican actress and former The Cheetah Girls star won the viewers’ choice vote to become the thirteenth contestant on Dancing with the Stars.

Sabrina Bryan

“I am so excited. I’m getting teary eyed just right now,” Bryan said on Good Morning America when the results of the vote were announced. “It was a fight…we all three really wanted it. I’m the lucky one with some amazing, incredible fans that have really stuck behind me.”

Bryan, who competed in the fifth season of ABC’s hit reality celebrity dancing competition, earned the most fan votes online to beat out fashion commentator Carson Kressley (Season 13) and fellow Disney Channel alum Kyle Massey (Season 11). All three had been campaigning to win the thirteenth spot.

Bryan will be paired with professional dancer Louis Van Amstel.
