Maná Becomes First Act to Perform Seven Shows in One Year at LA’s The Forum

It’s Lucky No. 7 for Manáfans in Los Angeles…

Due to continuing ticket demands, the legendary Mexican rock band has added a seventh show at The Forum in Los Angeles as part of its Rayando El Sol Tour, which kicks of at the end of August.

Mana

The seventh date at the venue, which will take place on December 7, makes Maná the only act in any language or genre to ever play seven dates at the venue as part of a single tour.

“Mana makes history today by becoming the first artist that will perform seven shows in one year at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum since our reopening in 2014,” said a spokesperson for The Forum. “Mana also holds our record for most shows since the reopening at 11. The Forum is proud and honored to be the home to Mana’s historic run of shows.”

Maná, Latin music’s most successful rock band and one of the most prolific and highest-grossing Latin acts in the market, announced dates forRayando el Sol, their first tour in three years, this past February.

Tickets sales were so strong, that additional dates were added almost immediately, and the tour, originally set to kick off September 4 from Corpus Christi, is now starting August 31 in Laredo.

New dates were also added for Chicago, Oakland, San Jose, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Originally, Maná was slated to play four dates at The Forum, which grew to six, and now, seven.

The group performed on Good Morning America this Wednesday, the same day they streamed an intimate performance for fans on their YouTubechannel in anticipation of their tour.

“Maná is a touring powerhouse,” Bob Roux, president of U.S. concerts for Live Nation, said in a statement back in March, talking about the sellout speed of Maná’s shows. “I’ve never seen an onsale like this in the Latin Market. This puts Maná in the rarefied realm of the biggest bands in the U.S., regardless of language.”

The Rayando el Sol tour will now play 35 stops. The tour takes its name from Maná’s 1989 breakout hit song of the same name.

“It was the song that kicked off our career when we were ready to walk away from it all,” Fher Olvera, Maná’s lead singer, told Billboardearlier this year. “We spent many years with very little money. One time, [drummer] Alex [Gonzalez] spent the night at an apartment in Colonia Roma [the Mexico City neighborhood depicted in Alfonso Cuarón’s film Roma] that didn’t even have furniture. And there, between beers, we wrote the song. At that point, I was ready to work in what I’d studied in college: communications. And Alex was going to return to Miami. But that song allowed us to breath, so we have a real appreciation. It’s a very emblematic song. It’s played everywhere.”

Hader said they decided to spoof The War Room because it’s a documentray that affected comedy series for years to come, citing The Larry Sanders Show and The Office. “It started with that documentary,” he said.

Plus, Carville and Stephanopoulos “were two characters Fred and I could play,” Hader said. “We could totally play those characters”

Disney Unveils Trailer for Luna’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”

Diego Luna is going Rogue

Disney premiered the long-awaited trailer for its first Star Wars spinoff feature, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, starring the 36-year-old Mexican actor, on Good Morning America

Diego Luna in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Directed by Gareth EdwardsRogue One takes place prior to 1977’s Star Wars and revolves around a gang of rebel spies who steal the Death Star plans, which are ultimately uploaded on R2-D2.

Details on the film have been tight, and the teaser comes as a big revelation of what’s to come. Apparently, neither Jedis nor the Force will appear in this movie, although there have been whispers about a Darth Vader cameo.

Oscar nominee Felicity Jones plays chief spy Jyn Erso, while Riz Ahmed and Luna portray resistance fighters assisting in the heist. Ben Mendelsohn portrays a dominant Imperial villain. Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen and Mads Mikkelsen also star. In addition, there’s a number of AT-ATs wreaking havoc on a tropical beach. But the cameo that has Star Wars fans giddy this morning is red-haired rebel leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), last seen in 1983’s Return of the Jedi and 2005’s Revenge of the SithShe calls Jones’ Erso “reckless, aggressive and undisciplined”.

Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta wrote the Rogue One screenplay based on an idea by John Knoll. Similar to last year with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Christmas comes early with Rogue One opening on December 16. Force Awakens broke the domestic box office record with $247.97 million on its way to $2 billion worldwide.

The movie marks the first time that the Star Wars story has been told on the big screen outside the confines of its episodic structure.

Jennifer Lopez is ready to multi-task…

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican singer, actress and American Idol judge is set to host and perform at this year’s American Music Awards, taking place on November 22.

Jennifer Lopez

The double-duty gig comes in advance of her recently announced Las Vegas residency, “All I Have,” which premieres in January at the AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

No word on what song la Lopez will perform. She most recently appeared on Prince Royce’s song “Back It Up,” alongside her longtime collaborator Pitbull.

Meanwhile, Joe Jonas and Charlie Puth will appear on Good Morning America next Tuesday to announce nominees in six categories for the AMAs, with five additional categories to be announced immediately following via Snapchat.

The AMAs will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 22 at 8:00 pm on ABC.

Armisen to Host This Year’s Peabody Awards Ceremony

Fred Armisen has a date with the Peabodys…

The 48-year-old half-Venezuelan actor and former Saturday Night Live star will host the Peabody Awards ceremony on May 31 at New York City’s Cipriani Wall Street.

Fred Armisen

The Peabody Awards will move from being a workday lunchtime event to an evening gala that organizers say will include a “made-for-TV red carpet event.”

In June, Pivot will broadcast a 90-minute special that combines excerpts from the ceremony, with interviews and clips of the winning programs; the ceremony and primetime special are being produced by Den of Thieves – whose credits include Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution, the CMT Awards, the MTV Movie Awards and the Key & Peele Super Bowl Special.

Peabody Awards director Jeffrey Jones said the workday ceremony “may have confused people as to the nature” of what the Peabody Awards program at the University of Georgia, has become: a “dramatically re-imagined event” with “TV foremost in mind,” organizers say.

To that point, the award winners for calendar year 2014 will, for the first time, be announced in chunks over a two-week period, beginning Tuesday, April 14 with the Individual/Institutional winners, and wrapping on April 23 with the Documentary, Web/Interactive, Public Service, Education, and Children’s programming winners. Winners in the categories of News and Radio will be announced on April 20.

And the Entertainment winners will be unveiled April 16 – on ABC’s Good Morning America.

Jones said the divvying up was because previously the “smaller” winners often got lost in press coverage in the shadow of the Orange is the New Blacks and the Scandals – among last year’s winners. Announcing them over two weeks will allow for “greater attention placed on news and children’s programming,” he said, while we bit our tongue.

Fusion will begin broadcasting its weekly edition on February 18 at 8:00 pm ET.

Fusion was launched as a joint venture between Univision Communications Inc. and the Disney/ABC Television Network on October 28, 2013.

Benitez serves as a correspondent for ABC News, appearing on Good Morning America, World News Tonight, 20/20 and Nightline.

He has won two television news Emmy awards.

It’s Official… Mota to Compete on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”

It’s official… Bethany Mota will be shaking her tailfeather on television soon.

The 18-year-old half-Mexican YouTube vlogger and fashionista, as previously rumored, has been selected to compete on Season 19 of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.

Bethany Mota

Mota, who recently won Choice Female Web Star at the Teen Choice Awards, is among the 13 new dancers for the upcoming season of DWTS, which will premiere on Monday, September 15.

The beauty guru’s YouTube channel — macbarbie07 (7 million subscribers) — features hair, makeup, fashion and DIY tutorials. It earned her a fashion line at Aéropostale, and she was featured as part of a YouTube ad campaign.

Paired with professional dancer Derek Hough, Mota will compete for the coveted mirror ball trophy against the likes of Olympian Lolo Jones, Mean GirlsJonathan Bennett, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air‘s Alfonso Ribeiro and NASCAR great Michael Waltrip.

Other competitors include Duck Dynasty’s Sadie Robertson, actress Lea Thompson of Back to the Future, Ultimate Fighting Champion Randy Couture, legendary comedian Tommy Chong, celebrated talk show host Tavis Smiley, as well as famed fashion designer Betsey Johnson, Pretty Little Liars actress Janel Parrish and General Hospital alum Antonio Sabato, Jr.

Co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews announced the celebrity cast live Thursday morning on Good Morning America in Times Square.

The addition of Julianne Hough, named as the fourth judge last month, will add some pizazz this season. Hough won two mirror-ball trophies as a pro during her DWTS run, and will have a permanent spot at the judges’ table next to veterans Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
