Leoni Torresis kicking off Valentine’s week with a banger…
The Cuban singer has released “Deja La Tristeza,” the perfect song to dance to during Valentine’s Day.
Written by Torres, “Deja La Tristeza” is a salsa track that will encourage you to continue looking for happiness and leave the past behind.
“It’s a happy song that invites us to see the positive side of life when we feel bad,” he tells Billboard.
Born in Camagüey, Cuba, Torres began his solo career in 2008 and has written songs for other artists, like “Traidora” by Marc Anthonyand Gente de Zona and Pablo Milanes‘ “Para que un día vuelvas,” among others.Filmed in Cuba and directed by Yeandro Tamayo, the music video presents different people who suddenly stop being sad and join in the celebration of love through music and dance.
The 51-year-old Puerto Rican singer’s Magnus Studios, a division of his entertainment company Magnus Media, will develop and produce an animated children’s series aimed at children ages 4-8.
Gloria (doesn’t) Know It All will be produced in partnership with filmmaker and Academy Award winner Juan Jose Campanella‘s animation studio Mundoloco CGAand Lanugo Media.
The series, which will draw heavily on music and magic realism, tells the story of a 7-year-old little Alpaca sent to visit her grandparents in a magical town.
Anthony and Magnus COO Felipe Pimento, who is also head of Magnus Studios, will act as executive producers. Anthony will also be the series’ music executive producer, supervising the creation of all original songs and music for the show.
On their end, Campanella and Mundoloco co-founder Gaston Goraliwill act as executive producer and showrunner, respectively.
Campanella is best known for his film The Secret In Their Eyes, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2009.
“I am thrilled to start the new year with the announcement of a project that will highlight the splendor and diversity of our Latino culture for children everywhere and I am looking forward to inspire families and young generations with this story,” said Anthony in a statement.
Gloria (doesn’t) Know It Allwas co-created by Pimiento and Gorali with Carla Curieland Roberto Castro. Curiel and Castro, who are co-executive producers for Lanugo Media, said the story was inspired by their twin daughters Adriana and Emilia.
Gloriawill be the latest venture for an expanding Magnus Media, which also includes management, publishing and digital and video content divisions in addition to a sports unit and a talent agency. The company’s roster of acts includes Anthony, Gente de Zona, Fonseca and Mau y Ricky in addition to over 60 professional baseball players, including New York Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman and the Toronto Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero.
The chairman and CEO of Universal Music Latin America and Iberian Peninsula will receive the Desi Arnaz PioneerAward at the seventh annual La Musa Awards from the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame.
López, who is responsible for Universal Music Groupoperations in all Spanish and Portuguese-speaking territories of the world, will receive the recognition for his many contributions throughout his professional career.
The Desi Arnaz Pioneer Award was created by the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in honor of the early television visionary, songwriter and entertainer, who developed the iconic comedy show I Love Lucy, which he produced and starred in with his wife, Lucille Ball.
For more than four decades, López has worked with some of the greatest artists in Latin music, including Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes, José Luis Perales, Joan Manuel Serrat, Mecano and Juan Gabriel. Most recently, he has launched the careers of Karol Gand Sebastian Yatra, among many of a new generation of acts. Lopez was also behind the global hits “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee and J Balvin’s “Mi Gente,” which were pivotal in the current explosion of Latin music.
Lopez’s roster of international hits also includes Los del Rio’s “Macarena,” “La Camisa Negra” by Juanes, and “Bailando” by Enrique Iglesias featuring Descemer Buenoand Gente de Zona.
Previous recipients of the award include Quincy Jones, Nat King Coleand Raul Pablo Alarcon Sr.
The La Musa Awards ceremony will take place on October 24 at the James L. Knight Centerin Miami. This year’s class of inductees includes Ivy Queen, Willie Colón, Michael Sullivan, Chico Novarroand Armando Larrinaga.
YouTube has released the official list of the new Latin videos that have reached the billion views, with the 40-year-old Puerto Rican singer-songwriter’s collaboration with Demi Lovato making the grade.
In 2018, nineteen Latin videos have joined the elite club, including Fonsi’s clip for his single with the 26-year-old half-Mexican American singer/actress, “Échame La Culpa.”
It all started when “Bailando” by Enrique Iglesiasfeaturing Gente de Zona and Descemer Bueno reached the coveted figure in 2015.
Then, in 2016, four new videos joined the list: Shakira‘s “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” Romeo Santos with “Propuesta Indecente,” “Ay Vamos” by J Balvinand Jennifer Lopezwith “On The Floor” featuring Pitbull.
In 2017, everything changed. After the overwhelming success of Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” clip — currently the most-viewed video with 5.7 billion views — 17 more videos (including “Despacito”) earned access to the famous list. Among those videos are “El Amante” by Nicky Jam, J Balvin‘s “Mi Gente” with Willy William, Daddy Yankee’s “Shaky, Shaky,” Maluma‘s “Felices Los 4,” and his collaboration with Shakira, “Chantaje,” among others.
And now in 2018, 19 other videos have joined the prestigious club, including “El Farsante” by Ozuna with Romeo Santos; Becky G and Bad Bunny’s “Mayores;” and Manuel Turizo with “Una Lady Como Tu.”
Interestingly, two of the billion-view members are official audio clips: Camilla Cabello’s “Havana” and Danny Ocean’s “Me Rehúso.”

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican singer and the 41-year-old Puerto Rican rapper’s global smash “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber, has claimed the all-longevity mark atop Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart all to itself, as the song scores a record-breaking 42nd week at No. 1 on the ranking dated February 17.
The hit surpasses the 41-week reign of Iglesias‘ “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, in 2014-15.
Erika Ender, one of the six writers of the Grammy-nominated song tells Billboardof the feat, “This song has been so unpredictable and so surprisingly wonderful, as are the spontaneous and authentic emotions for those who are able to connect, with any heart and in any language. I’m happy for this new record for Latin music.”
Hot Latin Songs blends streaming, airplay and sales data; it switched from an airplay-only methodology on October 20, 2012.
“Despacito” first led the chart dated a year ago this week, rising to its first frame at No. 1 on the February 18, 2017-dated tally. It spent 35 consecutive weeks at No. 1 and then ceded the summit to J Balvin and Willy Willliam‘s “Mi Gente,” featuring Beyoncé, for 12 weeks, beginning October 21. “Despacito” then returned for another seven weeks at No. 1 (so far).

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican singer/songwriter and the 41-year-old rapper’s global phenomenon “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, has tied the record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 in the history of Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart, as it logs its 41st week on top (on the ranking dated February 10).
The track matches the 41-week reign of Enrique Iglesias‘ “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, in 2014-15.
“My goal has always been to make good songs that people enjoy and perform them with passion and honesty,” Fonsi tells Billboard. “To break or tie records, although it is not the priority, is a sign that people feel that connection. Being a small part of the history of Latin music is a real honor.”
“Despacito” first led Hot Latin Songs (which blends streaming, airplay and sales data) almost a year ago, rising to its first week at No. 1 on the Feb. 18, 2017-dated chart.

Ricky Martin is honoring our unsung heroes… and, being honored in return…
The 45-year-old Puerto Rican superstar has joined the lineup for the 2017 iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina: Celebrating Our Heroes, hosted by Enrique Santos and Telemundo’s Jessica Carillo, taking place on Saturday, November 4.
Martin joins a roster that includes Luis Fonsi and Diplo,Nacho, Gente De Zona, Don Omar, CNCO, Reik, Jesse y Joy, Camila Cabello and Pepe Aguilar.
Telemundo will air this year’s event live from the American Airlines Arena, as a four-hour television special, which will include special tributes to first responders and communities impacted by the natural disasters in Texas, Florida, Mexico, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean nations like Barbuda and Dominica.
The event will also provide information on how attendees and viewers can support the local communities directly impacted by those events.
The iHeartRadio family will also present Ricky Martin with the second annual iHeartRadio Premio Corazon Latino award, which honors an individual for “their selfless work in enhancing the lives, heritage and future of the Latin community.” Martin is being feted for his efforts in providing relief and support to his native Puerto Rico, following hurricanes Irma and Maria, through the Ricky Martin Foundation.

Prince Royce is ready to take the international stage…
The 28-year-old Dominican American bachata singer has been added to the list of superstars set to perform at 2017 Latin American Music Awards 2017, according to Telemundo.
Prince Royce, the reigning Favorite Tropical Artist, joins a list of performers that includes Chris Brown, Gente de Zona, Natalia Jimenez, Banda MS, Alejandra Guzmán, Gloria Trevi, hip hop legend Spiff TV, Pablo Alborán and Jesse & Joy.
The list of performers also includes upcoming acts like Spanish pop singer Abraham Mateo, Cuban pop music group Angeles, Puerto Rican “trap” singer Bad Bunny, regional Mexican singer Christian Nodal and Colombian singer/songwriter Manuel Medrano.
The “Latin AMAs” honors artists in the genres of Pop/Rock, Regional Mexican, Urban and Tropical, as well as categories for Favorite Crossover Artist, Favorite Collaboration, New Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, among others.
This year, Colombian superstars Shakira and Maluma top the list of nominees for the third annual awards show. Nominees are based on key fan interactions with music, including, but not limited to, sales, airplay, streaming and social activity tracked by Billboard through its data partners Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound.
The ceremony will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA, at 9:00 pm ET on Thursday, October 26. The show is produced by Telemundo and Somos Productions.
