Karol G Leads Pack of Premios Juventud Award Winners with Five

Karol G is embracing her juventud victories…

The 33-year-old Colombian superstar tied Peso Pluma for top winner honors at the 21st annual Premios Juventud.

Karol GBoth Karol G and the 25–year-old Mexican singer-songwriter claimed a total of five awards each.

Karol G won awards in categories like Premios Juventud female artist and best urban album for Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season).

Meanwhile, Peso won best regional Mexican album for Génesis and best urban track, sharing that award with Karol for their collab “Qlona.”

Neither Karol or Peso were at the awards show, which prides itself in speaking to the youth and for showcasing young talent.

This year, the star power was mainly fueled by veterans like Wisin and renowned producer Sergio George, who opened the show with their new salsa song “La Vida Es Una Fiesta.”

Other musical numbers featured Mexican iconic band Los Tigres del Norte, who were one of the Agent of Change honorees of the night, Los Ángeles Azules with Emilia, for a generational balance, Reik and Camila.

But newer acts like Ela Taubert — who won new generation female artist — and Los Esquivel also had a chance to take the stage. In fact, Los Esquivel delivered a riveting set with their electro corrido “Alucin,” as they turned the stage into a mini rave.

Besides the many musical numbers, the show handed out only a few awards throughout the three-hour telecast. Also, viewers were treated to pre-recorded messages by Ángela Aguilar, who sent a shout out from her wedding congratulating Premios Juventud on its 21st anniversary, and Shakira, who was one of last year’s Agent of Change recipients who returned to the event, this time via video, to remind fans and a new generation of artists to always believe in themselves.

Among the best moments of the night was the Fania tribute to celebrate its 60th anniversary, revisiting its salsa classics via a medley.

Because few awards were handed out during the telecast, there weren’t many speech opportunities. But the few that did happen were good and, one in particular, really stood out. Lele Pons shared powerful words when she received the Agent of Change award. “Stop trying to find your happiness in the acceptance of other people who don’t value you, ok? I use my platform to see if I can help people to love themselves and laugh, show cellulite, be you, be transparent,” she said. “Not everybody is going to love you, not everybody has to like you, that’s their problem, not yours. Love yourself, respect yourself, ok? You are enough. I love you.”

Peso Pluma’s “Éxodo” Rises to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums Chart

Peso Pluma is celebrating a chart-topping release…

The 25-year-old Mexican Grammy-winning Regional Mexican singer-songwriter is back at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart with Éxodo, his fourth studio set which rises 41-1 on the July 6-dated list.

Peso PlumaThe set also launches at No. 5 on the overall Billboard 200 list.

Peso Pluma’s latest chart-topper comes only three months after Génesis clocked its 28th week (and so far final week) at No. 1 on the chart.

Éxodo debuted at No. 41 on Top Latin Albums charted dated June 22 with only one day of activity, as the album was released June 20 via Double P, the last day of the tracking week. According to Luminate, the 24-song set (21 of which are collaborations), generated 64,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the 21-27 tracking week.

Streaming units comprise essentially all Éxodo’s second week of activity, with a little over 63,000 units deriving from that consumption method. That sum equates to 87.5 million on-demand official streams of the album’s 24 songs. Traditional album sales and track sales, meanwhile, supply the remaining 1,000. One unit equals one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams for a song on the album.

Éxodo becomes just the second album by a Regional Mexican act to land at the summit on Top Latin Albums in 2024, following Fuerza Régida’s Pa Las Baby’s y Belikeada, which led for three weeks between April and May.

Beyond its coronation on Top Latin AlbumsÉxodo likewise rallies 19-1 on Regional Mexican Albums, where Peso replaces himself at No. 1. The new set sends Génesis to No. 2 with a 4% dip in overall units, to 17,000.

The last act to swap No. 1 positions on the chart was Eslabon Armado, whose album Tu Veneno Mortal, Vol. 2 ceded the throne after three weeks to Armado’s Corta Venas, rebounding to the summit on the chart dated July 31, 2021, for its 18th week atop then. (The latter ruled for a total of 54 weeks, the third-most since the list’s inception in 1985.)

Éxodo was preceded by four songs on the multi-metric Hot Latin Songs chart, starting with “La Durango,” with Junior H and Eslabón Armado, which rallies 20-9 with the Greatest Gainer honors, awarded weekly to the song with the largest increase in audience.

La People II” with Tito Double P and Joel De La P, travels 23-18. “Rompe La Dompe,” with Junior H and Oscar Maydon, re-enters at No. 27 after its No. 12 debut and peak (Jan. 13-dated list). “Peso Completo,” with Arcángel reached its No. 42 debut high, while “Teka,” with DJ Snake, climbs 45-36.

Reloj,” with Iván Cornejo, leads 17 debuts on Hot Latin Songs, which combines airplay, digital sales and streaming data, where it opens at No. 3. It was the most streamed song during the debut week, with 7.7. million official U.S. streams in the tracking period.

With the 17 new recruits, plus two songs already on the list and a re-entry, Peso Pulma places 20 total simultaneous titles on the current chart, the most in 2024.

Peso Pluma Earns Third No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart with Gabito Ballesteros & Junior H Collab “Lady Gaga”

Peso Pluma has another chart-topper…

The 24-year-old Mexican singer-songwriter’s “Lady Gaga,” his collaboration with Gabito Ballesteros and Junior H, rises 3-1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated September 30.

Peso PlumaThe song, one of 17 tracks from Peso Pluma’s Top Latin Albums No. 1 Génesis, gives Ballesteros and Junior H their first champ on the chart.

“Lady Gaga” advances to No. 1 on the multi-metric tally fueled by a streaming surge during the September 15-21 tracking week. According to Luminate, the song registered 13 million U.S. official streams; a 23% gain from the week prior. The gain pushes the song from No. 36 to No. 25 on the overall Streaming Songs chart and No. 2-1 on Latin Streaming Songs.

Sales also helped push the song up Hot Latin Songs: “Lady Gaga” gained a 33% in digital sales, to a little over 500 downloads sold, jumping 7-6 on Latin Digital Songs. Hot Latin Songs blends streaming data, digital sales, and airplay.

Ballesteros and Junior H nab their first No. 1s on Hot Latin Songs. Ballesteros previously reached No. 6 through the three-way collab “AMG,” also with Peso Pluma and Natanael Cano, in February. Junior H’s highest peaking song arrived with the co-billed “Luna,” likewise with Peso Pluma (chart dated July 8).

Pluma, meanwhile, claims his third champ and replaces himself at No. 1 as “Qlona,” with Karol G, drops 1-2, while “Ella Baila Sola,” with Eslabon Armado, falls 2-3.

Beyond its coronation on Hot Latin Songs, “Lady Gaga” rebounds 53-37 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 after its debut and peak at No. 35 in July, while concurrently ascends to a new peak on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, from No. 24-16 on the current chart.

Peso Pluma Breaks Bad Bunny’s Record for Most Simultaneous Tracks on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

Peso Pluma is making history…

The 24-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter, whose third studio album Génesis recently earned him a first No. 1 on any Billboard album chart, has placed a total 25 titles on the Hot Latin Songs chart in the week ending June 29, according to Luminate.

Peso PlumaIn the process, Peso Pluma breaks the record for the most simultaneous tracks on the tally, surpassing Bad Bunny’s 24-title record, held since May 1, 2022, concurrent with the week his Un Verano Sin Ti album arrived on the album charts.

With 101.8 million streams, Peso Pluma’s 17-track set Genesis boasts the largest streaming week ever for a Regional Mexican album.

As a result of Génesis’ strong streaming performance, 10 of its cuts debut on the Hot Latin Songs chart, which blends streams, airplay and sales to rank the 50 most popular Latin songs in the U.S. “Luna,” with Junior H, leads the new arrivals at No. 5, with 13 million official on-demand streams earned in the U.S.

Since Peso Pluma’s maiden entry on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in April 2022, the Regional Mexican juggernaut has placed 31 total entries on the list, including his collab with Eslabon Armado, “Ella Baila Sola,” which leads the survey in its 13th week, and counting. The song concurrently dominated Billboard Global 200 for six weeks — the most for a Spanish-language tune. Plus, the pair-up logged a historic top 10 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first regional Mexican top 10 in the chart’s 64-year history.

Back on Hot Latin Songs, two other songs from Génesis start in the upper region: “Lady Gaga,” with Gabito Ballesteros and Junior H, at No. 6, and “VVS,” with Edgardo Nuñez and Los Dareyes de La Sierra, which rounds out the top 10 crew at No. 10.

Peso Pluma Earns First No. 1 on Any Billboard Album Chart with “Genesis”

Peso Pluma is celebrating his first No. 1 on any Billboard album chart…

The 24-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter’s album Génesis rises to No. 1 (from No. 35) on the Top Latin Albums chart dated July 8 after its first full tracking week.

Peso Pluma

It also advances 10-1 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.

Génesis’ coronation arrives a week after the album debuted on both lists dated July 1 with only one day of activity. The original version of the album, comprising 14 tracks, was released on an off-cycle Thursday (June 22), the final day of the June 16-22 tracking week.

The new Génesis, containing three bonus tracks, was released on June 30. Both versions of the album have been combined for tracking and charting purposes, while the original version has been removed from platforms.

According to LuminateGénesis earned 73,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during its first official tracking week ending June 29. It becomes the biggest week by units earned for a regional Mexican album ever, dating back to when the all-genre Billboard 200 chart began ranking by units in December 2014. The previous largest week by total units arrived just less than two months ago, when Eslabon Armado’s Desvelado launched with 44,000 units (May 13-dated list).

An equivalent album unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album (track equivalent album units, TEA), or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album (streaming equivalent album units, SEA).

As is standard among new artists, streaming powers nearly all of Génesis’ first-week totals. Out of its 73,000 units, 72,000 stem from SEA units. That figure equals to 101.18 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs. Traditional album sales contribute just under 1,000 of the remaining balance, with a slice of negligible units deriving from TEA.

With 101.8 million streams, Génesis boasts the largest streaming week ever for a regional Mexican album. Previously, Eslabon Armado’s Desvelado drew the largest, with 63.51 million official U.S. streams (May 13).

Génesis becomes only the fifth Latin album to garner at least 100 million on-demand streams for its songs in a single week, following multiple weeks by Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Titwo for Bunny’s YHLQMDLG, one for Bunny’s El Último Tour del Mundo, and one for Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito.

Further, Génesis becomes the fourth regional Mexican effort to lead Top Latin Albums this decade, after Alejandro Fernández’s Hecho en México (one week, Feb. 29, 2020) and two Eslabon Armado albums, Vibras de Noche (one week, Aug. 2020) and Desvelado (one week, May13).

Elsewhere, Génesis launches at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard 200, his first entry and top 10 there. The set concurrently outpaces the two other regional Mexican albums which have seized a spot in the top 10, both by Eslabon Armado: Nostalgia (No. 9 debut and peak, May 2022) and Desvelado (No. 6 debut and peak, May 13).
