Castro to Star on ABC Family’s “Shadowhunters”

The 19-year-old Latino actor has been cast in a recurring role on ABC Family’s straight-to-series drama Shadowhunters.

Based on the best-selling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) who finds out on her birthday that she’s not who she thinks she is, but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and her best friend Simon (Alberto Rosende).

Castro, who starred in 27 Dresses, will play Raphael, an elegantly handsome, well-dressed vampire. Ambitious and cunning, he’s aspiring to lead the New York vampire clan.

Castro’s other credits include Where God Left His Shoes, Fugly! and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.

Leguizamo to Star Opposite Tina Fey & Amy Poehler in “The Nest”

The 49-year-old Colombian actor has landed a role in The Nest, a comedy starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as two 30-something sisters who throw one last party in their parents’ soon-to-be-sold house.

Directed by Pitch Perfect-helmer Jason Moore froma screenplay by Paula Pell, the film will also star John Cena, James Brolin, Ike Barinholtz and Maya Rudolph.

No word yet on Leguizamo’s character in the film for Universal Pictures.

Earlier this year, he starred in the hit comedy Ride Along, where he co-starred with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. He was also recently seen in the Open Road pic Chef and has a handful of projects set to go into production, including Fugly and American Ultra.

The multi-hyphenate has also begun expanding his brand outside of film with his HBO special Ghetto Klown premiering in March and his PBS special American Masters: The Boomer List currently in pre-production. He will also be performing at Central Park SummerStage on July 28th.

The Nest is set for release on December 18, 2015.

Castro Lands Role on CBS’ Drama Pilot “Red Zone”

David Castro has landed in the Red Zone

The 18-year-old half-Puerto Rican actor has been cast in CBS’ drama pilot Red Zone.

Written by Nikki Toscano and directed by James Foley, the project centers on Holden Weller (portrayed by Without a Trace’s Anthony LaPaglia), a retired CIA operative and intense high school football coach/athletic director who is pulled back into action when a terrorist event rocks Washington, D.C. He’s basically forced to investigate much closer to home than expected, a place where the next generation of terrorists is being bred.

Castro, who earned an Imagen Award nomination for Best Supporting actor for his performance in the film Where God Left His Shoes, will portray Reza, a smart and thoughtful new student at the high school who has just transferred there to play baseball.

Castro’s other credits include roles in the films Tio Papi, Fugly! and 27 Dresses.

Peña Cast in ABC’s John Leguizamo Comedy Pilot

Elizabeth Peña will be playing mom to Sid the Sloth’s hilarious portrayor…

The 51-year-old Cuban American actress has joined the cast of ABC’s still-untitled John Leguizamo project.

Co-created and starring the Colombian-American actor/comedian, the project is based on his life as a husband, father and fish out of water on New York City’s Upper West Side.

Peña, starred in Showtime‘s Resurrection Blvd., will portray Leguizamo’s mother Olga.

But this isn’t the first time Peña has played the Fugly! star’s madre… The actors previously portrayed mother and son in the 2008 Latino-themed family drama Nothing Like the Holidays.

Leguizamo’s Film “Fugly!” to Be Released This Summer

Things are about to get Fugly! for John Leguizamo at the box office…

The 48-year-old Colombia-born comedian/actor’s autobiographical film Fugly! will be released in the United States this summer through 108 Media, according to IndieWire.com.

The film is an adaptation of the two-time Tony nominee’s one-man Broadway show Ghetto Klown, which traces Leguizamo’s journey from a young aspiring actor in New York City to his extensive Hollywood career in films like Carlito’s Way, Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.

Fugly! co-stars Rosie Perez, Radha Mitchell, Griffin Dunne, Yul Vasquez, Tomas Milian and Ally Sheedy.

Ghetto Klown, which opened on Broadway in March 2011, closed in July 10 after 95 performances. The production earned Leguizamo a Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. The show then moved in to play in Los Angeles in September 2011, before moving to London’s Charing Cross Theatre the following month.

The news of Fugly!’s release comes on the heels of the announcement that ABC has placed a pilot order for a television sitcom based on Leguizamo’s life.
