The Mexican actor/comedian has been cast alongside Michelle Ortiz as series regulars inPunk Ass Bitch,Hulu’s half-hour comedy pilot starring up-and-coming comedian Chris Estrada and produced by ABC Signature.
Written by Estrada and Jake Weisman, Matt Ingebretson and Pat Bishop, withJonathan Groff supervising, Punk Ass Bitch is based on Estrada’s comedy and reflects his Latino identity.
It’s inspired by Estrada’s life in South Central Los Angeles and nearby Inglewood, where, by his own recollection, he spent his formative years running from loose pit bulls, getting robbed, and geeking out over comic books and punk rock.
The series centers on Julio Lopez (Estrada), a punk-ass bitch with a heart of gold who goes out of his way to help everyone but himself. Inspired by the life and stand-up comedy of star, co-creator and real-life punk ass bitch Estrada, the cinematic half-hour comedy explores Julio’s attempts to better his community, overcome his codependency issues with his family and navigate working class life in South Central.
Quinones plays Luis, a tatted up gangster who’s just finished eight years in prison, tough, aggressive, macho, yet immature. He’s not just a hard ex-gangster, he’s someone who also has not grown up yet emotionally.
Ortiz portrays Maggie. Feisty, strong-willed and fierce, Maggie is Julio’s ex, and it’s clear that they still have a spark and hang out together even though they both drive each other crazy.
Estrada executive produces with Fred Armisen, Groff, under his overall deal at ABC Signature, Weisman, Ingebretson and Bishop.
The pilot will be directed by Bishop, who directed all episodes of the Comedy Central seriesCorporate. Bishop and his Corporate collaborators Weisman and Ingebretson will serve as showrunners.
Quinones was a series regular in TBS comedy series The Dress Up Gang. He also was a member of the voice cast in Victor & Valentinoand guest-starred on The Guest Book, among other credits.
Ortiz was a series regular on MADtv. She was most recently seen in recurring roles in Gentefied and Tacoma F.D., and she previously guest-starred on Mom.
The 47-year-old Mexican actor/singer and Jane The Virgin scene-stealer has been cast in Steven Soderbergh’s next film, the New Line Max Original featureKIMI, with Zoë Kravitz on board to star. Byron Bowers is also on board.
The film will premiere exclusively on HBO Max. David Koepp penned the script and will produce along with Michael Polaire.
Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Camil can next be seen starring opposite Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Jane Krakowski, Fred Armisen, Alan Cumming, Ariana DeBose and Kristen Chenoweth in the upcoming Apple+ musical comedy series Schmigadoon!from executive producer Lorne Michaels. He previously starred as fan and critic favorite in the Golden Globe-nominated and AFI Award-winning series Jane the Virgin. Most recently he starred in and executive produced the CBS comedy series Broke, becoming the first Latino lead in a comedy series for CBS since Desi Arnaz in I Love Lucy.
Camil is also teaming up with Jane the Virgin show creator Jennie Synder Urman and writer/comedian Al Magrigal to develop the single-camera comedy seriesGuerrillas through ABC, which he’ll co-executive produce and star in.

The Guild of Music Supervisors has announced the nominees for its 11th annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, with the Latino music supervisors earning a nod.
Rodríguez and Nuño were nominated in the Best music supervision for film budgeted under $5 million for their work on Netflix’s Mexican Spanish- language musical drama film I’m No Longer Here (Ya No Estoy Aquí), which was written and directed by Fernando Frías de la Parra.
Last year, Rodríguez and Nuño were named to Variety’s Music Supervisors to Watch after rocketing from obscurity by providing the soundtrack to Fred Armisen, Julio Torres and Ana Fabrega’s cult HBO hit Los Espookys.
The Guild of Music Supervisors Awards nominations recognize the craft of music supervision in film, television, games, advertising and trailers.
The awards will be presented virtually on April 11.

The film follows a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a film. The film couldn’t be more timely as more and more productions are ramping back up even as COVID-19 remains in full effect around the world.
Once Netflix boarded the project, it quickly was fast-tracked with a plan to start shooting at the top of 2021. The plan also always has been to deliver a cast that rivals previous A-list ensembles like those for The Disaster Artistand Knives Out.

The pilot, which is already casting, will be directed by Bishop, who directed all episodes of the Comedy Central series Corporate.
Estrada was recently named an “UpNext” Comedian to Watch by Comedy Central and a “Top 10 Comic to Watch” by Time Out LA. He recently performed in a half-hour comedy special Entre Nosfor HBO Latino.
In a throwback to the sponsor segments of television’s earliest days, the 53-year-old half-Venezuelan American actor/comedian and Late Night With Seth Meyersbandleader will star in a Cadillac-branded segment during Thursday night’s show.
Meyers will toss to the segment featuring Armisen in the role of an agent in Cadillac’s “digital showroom,” touting the features of the 2021 Escalade. A blended “bumper” between the ad segment and the show will combine NBC and Cadillac branding.
Like all businesses, automakers have had to make dramatic adjustments to their retail presence during the coronavirus pandemic. Cadillac’s “live” showroom setup enables customers in all 50 states to have one-on-one video conversations with company reps via desktop or mobile devices.
TV networks have similarly grappled with major shifts in the advertising marketplace in 2020, with live sports and programming being wiped out by COVID-19. The upfront, typically wrapped up in late spring or early summer, has transformed into an open-ended process.
As a company, NBCUniversal is also trying to add options for advertisers, in particular with recently launched streaming service Peacock. Subscribers to its premium tier can get earlier access to Late Night as well as the Tonight Show.
Late Night has had an outsized presence during the run-up to the election, with a prime-time special airing recently on NBC. Meyers and Armisen were castmates on the network’s Saturday Night Live.

Described as an evening of charity and comedy, the event will take place on Saturday, October 24, at 7:00 pm PT/10:00 pm ET via the Looped app. All proceeds from the evening will benefit When We All Vote, a non-profit, nonpartisan organization founded by Michelle Obama and others.
Armisen, Vanessa Bayer, Jillian Bell, Adam Brody, Will Forte, Natasha Lyonne, Bobby Moynihan, Randall Park, Sam Richardson, Andrea Savage, Ben Schwartz, Cobie Smulders and others will play the popular party game Mafia. Audience members will know everyone’s role, but the players will not.
Mafia consists of two secretly predetermined teams, an informed minority (The Mafia), and an uninformed majority (The Villagers). At the start of the game, each player is confidentially assigned a role affiliated with one of these teams (Mafia or Villager).
The game has two alternating phases. First, everyone closes their eyes and The Mafia must decide secretly to eliminate a Villager in the night. Secondly, everyone is told to open their eyes and The Host announces who has been eliminated. Immediately following, the entire group must debate, accuse, argue and lie through their teeth to save themselves until a consensus is made and the group votes to eliminate who they think is one of The Mafia.
The person with the most votes is eliminated, whether they’re rightfully accused as Mafia, or just a lonely Villager. Whatever team can eliminate their opposing side first wins.
Jaime Camil has found the Apple (project) of his eye…
Apple TV+ has set a star-studded ensemble cast for its upcoming musical comedy that includes the 47-year-old Mexican actor, singer and television personality.
In addition to Camil, the project – which will be led by Saturday Night Live‘s Cecily Strong and executive produced by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video – will also star Keegan-Michael Key, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Jane Krakowski and Ann Harada.
Written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, the as-yet untitled comedy series follows a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship when they discover the magical town of Schmigadoon, in which everyone acts as if they’re in a studio musical from the 1940s. They then discover that they can’t leave until they find “true love.”
Key will play Josh, Melissa’s (Strong) long term, pragmatic partner, and the last person who wants to be stuck in this magical town. Cumming is Mayor Menlove, the welcoming mayor of the town with a secret (and a song) in his heart. Armisen plays Reverend Layton, the mild-mannered religious leader of the town. Chenoweth is Mildred Layton, Reverend Layton’s morally superior wife who is in everybody’s business. Tveit plays Danny Bailey, the town bad boy who is trouble with a capital T, especially once he sets his sights on Melissa. Cameron is Betsy, the farmers daughter who instantly falls for Josh. DeBose portrays Emma Tate, a more modern woman and the town’s teacher, she struggles to fit into the town’s strict mold. Camil plays Doc Lopez, the handsome town doctor with an icy heart. Krakowski plays The Countess, a stunning and sophisticated woman determined to marry Doc Lopez. Harada is Florence Menlove, the oblivious and dutiful wife of Mayor Menlove.
Paul will serve as showrunner, and will write all of the original music. Barry Sonnenfeld will direct.
The series hails from Broadway Video and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Hailing from Alex Owen and BenAshenden, theUK comedy duo known as The Pin, the series will follow two misguided British sketch comedians attempting to ‘make it’ in America with satirical nods to a post-Brexit Britain trying to ‘go it alone’.
The mockumentary will feature a mix of live sketches and ‘documentary footage.’
In addition to Armisen, performers set to take part in the project include Cecily Strong, Jamie Demetriou, John Reynolds, Kate Berlant, Lolly Adefope, Sally Phillips, Janine Harouni and Charly Clive.
Owen and Ashenden’s are best known for their work on BBC Radio 4 and acclaimed live shows.
The Audible pod series is set to launch at the beginning of August.
In addition to SNL, Armisen s the co-creator and co-star of the IFC sketch comedy series Portlandia. He is also the bandleader and frequent drummer for the Late Night with Seth Meyers house band, The 8G Band.
Camila Cabello is ready to celebrate a country Christmas…
Country singer Kacey Musgraveshas announced her first holiday special, The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show, with the 22-year-old Cuban and Mexican singer and former Fifth Harmony member among her all-star cast of collaborators on a variety of classic and original holiday songs.
Musgraves’ special, directed by Dan Levy will premiere globally on November 29 on Amazon Prime Video and feature Musgraves teaming up with Cabello on “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
Her other collaborators include Fred Armisen on “Silent Night,” Leon Bridgeson “Present Without a Bow,”James Corden on “Let It Snow,” Zooey Deschanel on “Mele Kalikimaka,” Lana Del Rey on “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and Troye Sivanon the world debut of “Glittery.”
Musgraves will also be joined by the Radio City Rockettes, who will do one of their famous kickline routines as Musgraves sings “Ribbons and Bows,” as well as special guest Kendall Jenner.
The show “invites fans in as Musgraves prepares for a most joyful Christmas gathering with a whimsical set and dazzling wardrobe influenced by the artist’s fresh aesthetic,” according to a release announcing the special. “Equal parts heart-warming and cleverly absurd, Musgraves pays tribute to holiday specials of the past whilst also reinventing just what a Christmas special can be, with a magically modern twist.”
“I can say without a doubt that this project is unlike anything I’ve ever done before,” Musgraves says in a statement. “What started as the small seed of an idea one night over a year ago has turned into something I’m so proud of. Some truly brilliant comedic and musical guests are featured in the show — as well as my own Grandma.
