Radamel Falcao Joins Rayo Vallecano

Radamel Falcao has found his Rayo of light…

The 35-year-old Colombian professional footballer has joined Spain’s Rayo Vallecano on a free transfer after his contract with Galatasaray was terminated.

Falcao joined Gala in 2019 and spent two seasons in Turkey but is best known for his spells with PortoAtletico Madrid and Monaco. He also played for Manchester United and Chelsea on loan.

He is Colombia’s all-time top scorer with 35 goals in 91 appearances and has won the Europa League with Porto and Atletico, as well as winning Ligue 1 with Monaco.

Rayo, who face Levante in LaLiga play on September 10, have lost two and won one of their opening three league games of the season.

Jose Bordalas Named Head Coach of Valencia CF

It’s bat-ter up time for Jose Bordalas.

The 57-year-old Spanish former-footballer-turned-manager has signed a two-year contract with an optional third, with Valencia CF, known as Los murciélagos, to serve as their new head coach.

Jose Bordalas

The announcement comes just two days after ending a successful five-season spell at Getafe.

Earlier this month Valencia sacked coach Javi Gracia — the 11th coach to leave the club in nine years — and finished 13th in the standings in La Liga under interim coach Voro.

“I’ve come here to work, to try to make Valencia CF a very competitive team, to occupy the place it deserves,” Bordalas said during his unveiling on Thursday.

“I will adapt to the possibilities of the club or the squad. If the club must remove or sell players, it will be out of necessity. We will work to incorporate players who come with enthusiasm, who are competitive. We want Valencia CF to regain its football status in La Liga, that is my goal. We start from scratch. I will put all my knowledge at the service of Valencia CF and I want to get the fans excited again.”

Valencia club owner Peter Lim has been at the centre of criticism over his management. Lim acquired then debt-ridden Valencia in 2014 but has not been a popular figure, with the club having regularly been forced to sell top players to reduce the outfit’s high debts and made no signings to strengthen the squad.

There have been calls for Lim, who is rarely in Valencia, to move aside and sell the club.

Bordalas had been in charge of Getafe since September 2016, leading the team back to La Liga in his first season before recording back-to-back top-10 finishes.

Getafe avoided relegation in the past two campaigns and finished two places behind Valencia this season. The Madrid outfit has appointed former coach Michel as the new head coach, who managed the team between 2009 and 2011 and guided it into the Europa League.

A former Real Madrid star, Michel has not coached since resigning for personal reasons as manager of Mexican side Pumas in the summer of 2020 after one year in charge.

Hernan Crespo Earns First Coaching Title with Defensa y Justicia’s Copa Sudamericana Win

Hernan Crespo has earned a special first as a coach…

The 45-year-old Argentine professional football coach and former player’s team Defensa y Justicia won their first continental title on Saturday after a comprehensive 3-0 win over fellow Argentine side Lanus secured them the Copa Sudamericana trophy.

Hernan Crespo

It’s the first coaching title for the former Chelsea, Inter, Parma and Argentina star.

The unstoried club took the title, South America’s equivalent of the Europa League, without losing any of their nine games in the competition to become only the fifth team in history to lift the trophy undefeated.

“Not many teams have won the title this way, undefeated,” said goalkeeper Luis Unsain. “We were extraordinary in defense, Lanus had no chances at goal and we scored three. I think we really deserved our win.”

The searing temperatures of the southern hemisphere’s summer meant the game was played at a slower pace than normal but the team coached by Crespo dominated proceedings from the start.

Braian Romero shot just wide early on before Defensa y Justicia took the lead after 33 minutes when Adonis Frias fired a low shot through a packed defense following a nice back heel from Francisco Pizzini.

Romero got the goal his play deserved 17 minutes into the second half when he seized on a short pass back and finished with a cheeky chip.

His 10th goal made him the competition’s top goalscorer.

Lanus, who won the competition in 2013, lost their way soon after, picking up three yellow cards in the final 20 minutes and rarely threatening a comeback.

Washington Camacho scored a third for Defensa y Justicia in the final minute when he finished off a rapid counter-attack.

“It was a fair result,” said Lanus veteran striker Jose Sand. “They were worthy winners.”

Although both clubs are based just south of Buenos Aires, the final was held behind closed doors in Cordoba, 700km away.

It was the first time the Copa Sudamericana has been contested by two teams from the same country.

Raul Jimenez Signs Contract Extension with Wolverhampton Wanderers

Raul Jimenez will be doing some more Wander-ing in the near future…

The 29-year-old Mexican professional footballer has signed a new contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers that’ll see him stay with the Premier League club until 2024.

Jimenez moved to the Wolves team from Benfica in 2018 and has since scored 46 times in 103 appearances.

“I am delighted to be here and to be at this great club,” he said. “Since I was a little boy, I just wanted to play, I wanted to enjoy it, live it, and that’s why I am here for.

Jimenez signs a contract extension amid interest from a number of clubs from across Europe for the player’s signature.

“It didn’t take much persuading. It was easy for me to say yes because since the beginning, this is what I was looking for,” Jimenez said.

“They [Wolves] give me all the confidence and the opportunity to be an important guy at the front, and that’s what I was looking for when I arrived into Europe, and I’m very happy to continue at this club.”

The player has been crucial in manager Nuno Espirito Santo‘s success at Wolves, with the club qualifying for the Europa League in their first season back in the top flight.

“The last two seasons we have given very good performances, so I knew this club has something special and I’m part of a big family here,” he said.

“I think Wolves are getting the best out of me, and I’m giving Wolves my best football, but they are giving the best to me too.”

This season the forward has featured three times managing to score twice in the Premier League so far.

Inter Milan Agrees to Sign Alexis Sanchez on Permanent Three Year Deal

Alexis Sanchez is staying put in Italia

Inter Milan have agreed to sign the 31-year-oldChilean professional footballer from Manchester United on a permanent three-year deal, the Serie A club’s CEO Giuseppe Marotta has announced.

Alexis Sanchez

Sanchez signed with Inter Milan on loan at the start of the 2019-20 season following a disappointing spell at United where he scored only five goals in 45 matches.

Although Sanchez scored only four league goals this season, he seemed to have rediscovered his touch in Italy, where he topped the club’s charts with eight assists as Antonio Conte‘s Inter finished runners-up behind Juventus.

“It will be official tomorrow [Thursday] in the morning,” Marotta told Sky Sports.

“The player is completely ours and we have a three-year contract with him. We think he can be a full member of our squad.”

The transfer will also allow Sanchez to play in the rest of Inter’s Europa League campaign after they advanced to the quarterfinals on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Spanish side Getafe in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.,

Following Manchester United’s win over LASK in the Europa League, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also confirmed a deal was in place.

“We’ll announce it tomorrow [Thursday],” Solskjaer said. “He’s agreed and we’ve agreed. He enjoyed his time there and they’ve liked him. He’s a top player who we want to see playing his best football. We didn’t see the best of him for whatever reason. He’s a top professional, now we just wish him all the best.”
