Vergara to Star in the Revenge Thriller “Bent”

Sofia Vergara is getting bent into shape…

The 44-year-old Colombian American has been cast as one of the leads in the revenge thriller Bent.

Written and directed by Bobby Moresco, based on characters created by Joseph O’Donnell, Bent follows Danny Gallagher (Urban), a shamed and discredited narcotics detective who, upon his release from prison, makes plans to seek revenge on the accuser who framed him and killed his partner. Through his quest, Gallagher is forced to confront a ruthless, seductive government agent (Vergara), who may or may not be on his side; and his mentor (Garcia), a retired cop who’s fought corruption his entire career.

The film is set to begin filming in Rome this month.

Vergara, best known for her critically acclaimed role on ABC’s Modern Family, has starred in the films The Smurfs, New Year’s Eve, Happy Feet Two,The Three Stooges, Escape from Planet Earth, Machete Kills, Chef and Hot Pursuit.

Lopez to Star in the Holiday-Themed Film “Aloha Santa”

George Lopez is preparing for a Hawaiian holiday…

The 54-year-old Mexican American comedian/actor will star in Aloha Santa, a holiday-themed film set to begin production in Maui in December.

Lopez will portray Chris Cringle, the lazy, immature adopted son of Santa who inherits the Santa Claus role when his father dies. Lacking confidence in his role, he ends up crash-landing in Hawaii when he takes the sleigh out for a test drive days before Christmas. Now he must find a way home in time to make the annual gift deliveries.

Billed as Hawaii’s first Christmas movie, it’s directed by Jonathan Yudis, who co-wrote the film with Adam “Tex” Davis and Mike Davis.

Lopez most recently appeared in the film Spare Parts and voiced the character of Rafael in Rio 2. His other credits include The Smurfs 2, Escape from Planet Earth and the television series Saint George.

Alba In Talks to Star in “Weightless”

The 31-year-old half-Mexican American actress is talks to star in the Milo Addica-directed Weightless from Myriad Pictures.

In the Oscar-nominated Monster’s Ball screenwriter’s first directing stint, Alba would star as an astronaut who causes a fatal motorcycle accident before heading off on her first space mission.

When she survives the crash of her space shuttle, her guilty conscience drives her to search for her own victim’s family, and she falls in love with his brother, a cop, in the process.

Myriad Pictures’ Kirk D’Amico will produce with Steve Norris, alongside the United Kingdom’s Apollo Productions and its partners, Pinewood Studios and Double Negative.

This year alone, Alba will appear in two sequels: Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. And, she’s also one of the voice actors in the 3D animated film Escape from Planet Earth.

The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for the animated space alien adventure Escape From Planet Earth, which features the 31-year-old half-Mexican American actress’ voice.

Directed by Despicable Me’s storyboard artist Cal Brunker, the 3D computer animated family film centers on Astronaut Scorch Supernova, who finds himself caught in a trap when he responds to an SOS from a notoriously dangerous alien planet.

Escape From Planet Earth

Based on a story by Leech & Cory Edwards, the film includes the voices of Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jane Lynch, Paul Reubens and Rob Corddry.

This is Alba’s first foray into animated fare on the big screen.

Escape From Planet Earth is scheduled to open February 14, 2013.
