Ariela Barer to Star in ABC’s Erin Brockovich-Inspired Drama Pilot “Rebel”

The Mexican American actress will star in ABC’s drama pilot Rebel, inspired by the life of activist Erin Brockovich.

Barer will star as a series regular opposite Katey Sagaland Tamala Jonesin the project.

Executive produced by Brockovich, Rebel hails from Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 showrunner Krista VernoffDavis EntertainmentSony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.

Written by Vernoff, Rebel centers on Annie “Rebel” Bello (Sagal), a blue-collar legal advocate without a law degree. A funny, messy, brilliant and fearless woman who cares desperately about the causes she fights for and the people she loves.

Barer will play Ziggie. The rebellious adopted daughter of Aiden and Rebel, Ziggie is going through a bad patch. She got hooked on pain medication after an injury, but has been drug-free for the last 72 days. A teenager who needs to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings on a very regular basis, Ziggie is vulnerable as hell and needs her mother — only her mother is busy-busy-busy with her latest cluster of tormented clients.

Barer most recently played the role of Gert Yorkes in Marvel’s Runaways,and she recurred on Atypical and One Day At A Time

In film, she portrayed Olivia in feature Lady Worldand will next be seen as a lead in upcoming Disfluencyand in a supporting role in The Ultimate Playlist of Noise.

Gina Gallego to Star in Showtime’s Drama Pilot “The President is Missing”

The 64-year-old Mexican American actress has been cast as a series regular opposite David Oyelowo in The President is MissingShowtime’s drama series adaptation of the novel by President Bill Clinton and James Patterson.

Hailing from Christopher McQuarrieand Anthony Peckham, The President is Missing centers on a powerless and politically aimless vice president (Oyelowo) who unexpectedly becomes president halfway into his administration’s first term, despite his every wish to the contrary. He walks right into a secret, world-threatening crisis, both inside and outside the White House. Attacked by friends and enemies alike, with scandal and conspiracy swirling around him, he is confronted with a terrible choice: keep his head down, toe the party line and survive, or act on his stubborn, late-developing conscience and take a stand.

Gallego will play Mrs. Aceves, Martin’s executive assistant, a position of influence. She is sweet but also an extremely patient adversary.

The project is based on the book by Clinton and Patterson, which was the No. 1 novel of 2018 and has sold more than 2.3 million copies in North America alone.

Peckham is writing the adaptation.

Hernandez Cast in ABC’s Drama Series “The Club”

Hollywood newcomer Callie Hernandez has landed her first television role…

The Latina actress has been selected as a regular cast member on the ABC drama series The Club.

Developed by American Hustle writer/director David O. Russell and CBS Television Studios, the project was quietly set up at ABC.

Written by Erin Brockovich scribe Susannah Grant based on a story she co-wrote with Russell, The Club is an upstairs/downstairs soap set at a private country club.

Hernandez will portray Ana, who works at the club, secretly stealing and pawning off nice items from her workplace.

A month ago, the network gave the green light on a straight-to-series, 13-episode order for the series.

Hernandez made her film debut last year in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills.

She’ll soon appear in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, as well as for what’s being called Untitled Terrence Malick Project.
