Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart for 31st Week

It’s 31-weeks down, and 11 to go for Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee…

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican singer and 40-year-old Puerto Rican rapper’s smash “Despacito” has tallied a 31st week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, passing Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias’ “El Perdon” for the second-longest reign at No. 1.

The all-time leader, Iglesias’ “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, spent 41 weeks at No. 1 from May 2014 to February 2015.

“Despacito” also logs its 30th week atop the Latin Streaming Songs chart, tying “El Perdon” for second-longest time spent at No. 1. “Bailando” also holds that record, with 66 weeks at No. 1.

The song, which topped Spotify’s Global Top 30 Songs of the Summer list, recently tied the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, before falling from the summit to Taylor Swift’s latest single.

Make that 30 weeks at the top for Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee…

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican singer and 40-year-old Puerto Rican rapper’s smash single “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, scores its 30th week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart (dated September 9), becoming just the third song to reach the 30-week mark in the chart’s 31-year history.

“Despacito,” which also earns a record-tying 16th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, ties Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias’ “El Perdon” for the second-longest reign at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. The all-time leader, Iglesias’ “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, spent 41 weeks at No. 1 from May 2014 to February 2015.

“Despacito” first topped the Hot Latin Songs chart on the February 18-dated list and has ruled the chart ever since.

Cabello Earns First Entry on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

It’s a hot shot debut for Camila Cabello on the Latin charts…

The 20-year-old Cuban singer’s collaboration with Pitbull and J Balvin “Hey Ma” earns the week’s highest debut on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, dated April 1.

The song, from The Fate of the Furious soundtrack (due April 14), bows at No. 5.

It’s Cabello’s first hit on the chart, while the entrance marks Pitbull’s highest debut ever on the multi-metric chart (which combines airplay, sales,and streams) of his 37 total chart entries. Balvin matches his previous best (“Ginza” arrived at No. 5 in 2015).

The majority of points helping the debut come from streams and song sales, with less than 2 percent stemming from airplay. The track arrives with 14,000 downloads sold in the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen Music, earning it a No. 1 start on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart, with the highest weekly sales figure since October 2015 (when Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias’ “El Perdon” sold just over 14,000 downloads). The chart-topping bow notches Balvin his first-ever No. 1 on the chart and Pitbull earns his fifth.

First-week streams total 3.2 million, with 54 percent stemming from YouTube plays. A music video, shot in Miami, has gathered 29 million global views on the platform through March 23, since being released on March 10.

Telemundo to Air Nicky Jam Biopic “El Ganador”

Nicky Jam is opening up about his life…

Telemundo will premiere a biopic series titled El Ganador about the 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer, the chart-topping artist revealed on the network’s Un Nuevo Dia morning show.

“They will know my whole story, everything that happened to me, also my childhood,” he said.

The series, with no release date yet, will begin filming this summer. It will be produced by Nicky Jam with his manager Juan Diego Medina and directed by Jessy Terrero.

“El Ganador” is also the first song from his comeback studio album Fenix, which briefly tells his life story through its lyric and a music video released last month.

“The song and video are just a fragment of the story. In the series, I detail my life, what happened to my mom, my dad and all my suffering.”

The “El perdón” singer hopes to help and inspire younger kids and from the series learn that “they too can be down and rise.”

But Nicky Jam’s isn’t the only biopic being released by Telemundo…

The network also announced Mexican singer/songwriter José José‘s series titled Nace un Ídolo.

José José’s story embodies a man’s journey to “reach the status of an idol — including fame and fortune — and the high price he had to pay to achieve his dreams.”

The series, produced by Telemundo Studios, highlights the passion and excitement that a superstar artist feels for his craft and the adoration of his fans. It also displays the frailty of the man coping with his addiction and its damaging effects such as almost losing his family, his voice and his life.

Shakira’s “Chantaje,” feat. Maluma, Matches the Run of “Hips Don’t Lie” on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

Shakira is still blackmailing her way to the top of the charts…

The 39-year-old Colombian superstar rules the roost on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart (dated January 21) for an eighth (nonconsecutive) week with “Chantaje,” featuring Maluma, matching the amount of weeks she spent atop the chart with her 2006 smash “Hips Don’t Lie,” featuring Wyclef Jean.

Both tracks are now tied for her second-longest command of the chart; the Colombian star’s “La Tortura,” featuring Alejandro Sanz, spent 25 weeks at the top beginning in June 2005.

Meanwhile, “Chantaje,” which translates to blackmail in English, jumps 65-51 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, reaching a new peak in its eighth charting week. Apart from “Tortura,” which peaked at No. 23, “Chantaje” marks Shakira’s best Hot 100 showing for a Spanish-language song that doesn’t have an accompanying English version.

A gain in streaming for the song supports its rank on both charts. The track logged 6.1 million streams during the week ending January 5, according to Nielsen Music, an 18 percent increase. It concurrently debuts at No. 47 on the Streaming Songs chart, which ranks weekly U.S. streaming data across all genres, marking Shakira’s fourth time on the four-year-old chart, and the first with a Spanish-language song.

Of the song’s total domestic weekly streams, 62 percent stem from YouTube, where its official video has reached 395 million global views to date. Meanwhile, “Chantaje” spends a fourth week at No. 1 on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart, despite a 4 percent dip in sales (to 5,000 downloads; most titles dropped in sales in the tracking week, following Christmas-week shopping the week before).

For nine years (2005-14), “La Tortura” held the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs. It wasn’t until Enrique Iglesias‘ global hit “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, ran up 41 frames at No. 1 (through February 2015), dethroning “Hips Don’t Lie.” Since then, Nicky Jam and Iglesias also surpassed the reign of “Hips,” when their collaborative “El Perdon” tallied 30 weeks at No. 1 in March-October 2015.

Shakira is currently working on her 11th studio album, her first full-length Spanish release since 2010’s Sale el Sol.

Nicky Jam Signs with Publicity Firm 42West

Nicky Jam is pressing on with a new team …

The 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer/songwriter has signed with 42West, one of the leading full-service public-relations firms in the entertainment industry.

Nicky Jam, who was a big winner at the most recent Billboard Latin Music Awards as well as the inaugural Latin American Music Awards, is best known for his hit single “El Perdon,” featuring Enrique Iglesias.

He’ll make his acting debut when xXx: Return of Xander Cage opens January 20.

Neymar to Launch Music Career This Week with the Release of His Debut Single

Neymar is making sweet music…

The 24-year-old Brazilian soccer star, who has already shown the world his skills on the futbol field, is getting ready to show the world his musical abilities.

Neymar, a forward for the Spanish club FC Barcelona and the Brazil national team, took to social media over the weekend to announce the launch of his music career, saying that his debut single will drop this week.

“This Wednesday I begin my music career and I’m going to release my first song on Facebook,” he tweeted to his more than 20 million followers.

On various occasions, the soccer sensation has shown great interest for music, from jamming to Nicky Jam‘s “El Perdón” with soccer mate Dani Alves to actually sharing the stage with Brazilian superstar Michel Teló, where they sang the chart-topping song “Ai Se Eu Te Pego“ together.

Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias Win Big at the Billboard Latin Music Awards

Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias have plenty of reason to celebrate…

The 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer/songwriter and 40-year-old Spanish singer-songwriter were the big winners of the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards, propelled by their global hit “El Perdón.”

Nicky Jam and Iglesias collected six trophies each, including Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event, Airplay Song of the Year, Digital Song of the Year, Streaming Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year. Additionally, Iglesias won Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Solo, while Nicky Jam won Latin Rhythm Songs Artist of the Year, Solo.

After thanking God, his genre Latina, Billboard and the people of Colombia and Puerto Rico, Nicky Jam gave a shout-out to his father, who he was separated from for much of his childhood. “I never brought home to you a medal from school,” he said. “But here is your medal, Papi.”

Right behind in the trophy haul was Mexican singer/songwriter Juan Gabriel, a comeback success story who won Tour of the Year and whose album of duets, Los Duo, won for Top Latin Album of the Year and Latin Pop Album of the Year. Gabriel also won Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Male and Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year, solo, and was honored with the special Billboard Star Award.

“This doesn’t seem real,” said a giddy Juan Gabriel, the first winner of the night. “I’m amazed. I’m surprised. I am very happy to be here for the first time.”

Other top winners of the evening included Romeo Santos, who won Artist of the Year, Mana, who won Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group, and Shakira, who won Social Artist of the Year.

Iglesias Releases New Single “Duele el Corazon” with Wisin

Enrique Iglesias is unleashing the pain…

The 40-year-old Spanish singer has released his new single “Duele El Corazón” featuring reggeaton superstar Wisin.

The song could possibly become this summer’s anthem, just like Iglesias’ other hits “Bailando” and “El Perdón” did in the past two years.

The upbeat track is accompanied by romantic lyrics written by Iglesias and Venezuelan singer/songwriter Servando Primera.

In May, the Spanish singer will continue his Sex and Love Tour in Europe visiting countries like Croatia, Romania, and Bulgaria. Iglesias is also confirmed to perform at the KTUphoria Festival in New York on June 8.

Gomez Earns Triple Threat Trophy at the iHeartRadio Music Awards

Move over Jennifer Lopez… Selena Gomez is the new Triple Threat…

The 23-year-old half-Mexican American singer/actress picked up the award for Biggest Triple Threat at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards, which were handed out Sunday night.

Gomez, heralded as a singer, actor and dancer, beat out Lady Gaga, Hailee Steinfeld, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Nick Jonas, Troye Sivan, Usher and Zendaya for the prize.

Bruno Mars continues to Funk things up. The 30-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer won the award for Best Collaboration for his smash hit single “Uptown Funk“ with Mark Ronson.

Meanwhile, Ally Brooke Hernadez, Camila Cabello and Lauren Jauregui and their fellow Fifth Harmony members, as well as 22-year-old half-Mexican American singer Jasmine V, picked up the award for Best Cover Song for Mars and Ronson’s “Uptown Funk.” They share the award with Jacob Whitesides and Mahogany Lox.

Other winners include Pitbull for Latin Artist of the Year, and Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias’ smash hit single “El Perdón“ for Latin Song of the Year.

The awards show aired live on TBS, TNT and truTV from the Forum in Inglewood, California. Jason Derulo served as the night’s host.
