Daddy Yankee Earns Seventh No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums Chart

Daddy Yankee is going out with a bang…

The 45-year-old Puerto Rican rapper, singer and songwriter as earned his seventh No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart as Legendaddy debuts at No. 1 on the April 9-dated list.

Daddy YankeeThe 19-track set, released March 25 via El Cartel/Republic, stands out as his first album in over 10 years and is set to be a farewell celebration of his 32-year musical career.

Streaming powers the majority of the Legendaddy’s first-week activity. Just under 27,000 units stem from streaming equivalent album units, 2,000 comprise traditional album sales, while the remaining units derive from track equivalent album units.

Legendaddy starts with 29,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 31, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. That’s the largest week in terms of units earned this year for any Latin album, ahead of Bad Bunny’s YHLQMDLG which logged 22,000 units on the April 2-dated survey.

Legendaddy is Daddy Yankee’s first No. 1 on Top Latin Albums in almost a decade. He last ruled with the two-week champ Prestige in 2012. In between he posted one top 10: King Daddy (No. 7 high) in November 2013.

The set concurrently opens at No. 8 on Billboard 200, the Puerto Rican’s highest charting album there. He’s charted one other top 10, the No. 9-peaking El Cartel: The Big Boss in 2007.

The Top Latin Albums chart ranks the most popular Latin albums of the week in the U.S. based on multimetric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

As Legendaddy arrives, 12 songs from the album debut on Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, streaming data, and digital sales, led by “X Última Vez,” with Bad Bunny at No. 6. The song traces its start to 6.51 million U.S. streams earned in the week ending March 31. It also benefits from 700 sales downloads, which prompts a No. 11 debut on Latin Digital Song Sales.

Daddy Yankee Earns 80th Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart with “Don Don,” Featuring Anuel AA & Kendo Kaponi

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican rap supserstar’s “Don Don,” featuring Anuel AA and Kendo Kaponi has debutedat No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated September 26.

The song earns Daddy Yankee his 80th entry on the list — and places him in a tie with Ozuna for the second-most entries since the tally’s inception in 1986. Bad Bunny continues at the helm with 96 total entries.

“Don Don” was released on September 11 via El Cartel and produced byMambo Kingz and DJ Luian. Hot Latin Songs blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data.

“Don Don” arrives in the top 10 powered by streaming activity. The three-generational Puerto Rican collaboration logged 4 million U.S. clicks in the week ending September 17, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, yielding to a No. 8 debut on the Latin Streaming Songs chart.

Sales also helped boost the song’s debut: 2,000 downloads sold in the week ending September 17 and entering at No. 1 on Latin Digital Song Sales. With eight No. 1s on the tally Daddy Yankee ties with Ozuna for the third-most leaders, both trailing Shakira (11) and J Balvin (10).

While Kendo Kaponi secures his first Hot Latin Songs top 10, Anuel AA claims his 18th and Daddy Yankee stretches his third-most top 10s to 34.

With “Don Don”’s arrival, Daddy Yankee and Anuel each place two songs on the chart’s upper tier. The former remains at No. 2 for a second week with “Relación,” with Sech and J Balvin, featuring Rosalía and Farruko, while the latter places at No. 5 with “La Jeepeta,” with Nio García, Myke Towers, Brray and Juanka.

Next time you step up to the bar, you might just be tempted to say, “I’ll have what Daddy Yankee’s having.”

The 35-year-old Puerto Rican reggaetonero recently launched his own signature brand of tequila, El Cartel.

It’s the latest entrepreneurial endeavor for Daddy Yankee, who already has a line of luxury watches, high end headphones, a deal with Verizon and a partnership with exercise company Zumba.

“Without a doubt it will be the biggest deal of all and the numbers should be huge. Our aim is to establish El Cartel as not just another tequila but part of the club and party lifestyle,” Daddy Yankee recently told Billboard.com in an interview. “There are several songs where I mention the brand name and a lot of these party songs go hand in hand with the concept of Cartel Tequila.”

Daddy Yankee’s ultra premium tequila is made with estate grown agave tequilana, commonly referred to as blue agave, and was developed with help from agaveros in Jalisco, México. El Cartel is crafted using only the finest hand selected hearts of 100% Weber Blue Agave that have matured for at least nine years. The pinas are slow cooked in brick ovens and then distilled in the age-old traditions.

“There hasn’t been a new luxury Tequila since Patrón,” says former venture capitalist Mark Scialdone, who developed the line with Daddy Yankee. “Nothing else has that status and image.”

El Cartel Tequila claims to have created the first drink with gold and silver edible flakes that float in your glass, rather than sinking to the bottom.
