Judy Reyes to Appear on Season Two of Peacock’s “Dr. Death”

Judy Reyes is embracing death…

The 55-year-old Dominican American actress and former Scrubs star will appear on Peacock’s Dr. Death in a recurring role.

Reyes joins a roster of new cast additions that includes Rita Volk, Jack Davenport (Ten Percent), Annika Boras (Succession) and Sandra Andreis (Snabba Cash).

Season 2 of the anthology series will feature the “Miracle Man” storyline based on the most recent third season of the Wondery podcast.

Paolo Macchiarini, played by Edgar Ramirez, is a charming surgeon, renowned for his innovative operations that earn him the nickname “Miracle Man.” When investigative journalist Benita Alexander (Mandy Moore) approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever. As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about the “Miracle Man” into question.

Previously announced Season 2 cast also includes Luke Kirby, Ashley Madekwe and Gustaf Hammarsten.

Season one of Dr. Death, based on the first season of the hit Wondery podcast, explored the psyche of disgraced Texas Neurosurgeon, Dr. Christopher Duntsch (Joshua Jackson), who maimed or killed 33 out of 38 patients over his career. The series was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Limited Series.

Season 2 hails from showrunner, writer, and executive producer Ashley Michel Hoban.

Reyes is known for her starring role as Carla in Scrubs, Zoila on ABC’s Devious Maids, and Quiet Ann on TNT’s Claws. On the film side, she’ll next be seen in a lead role in New Line’s Turtles All The Way Down for HBO Max.

Edgar Ramirez to Star on Season Two of Peacock’s Anthology Series “Dr. Death”

Death becomes Edgar Ramirez.

The 45-year-old Venezuelan actor will star in Peacock’s Dr. Death for the anthology series’ second season.

The Emmy-nominee will portray Paolo Macchiarini, the focus of Season 2 which is based on the third season of the Wondery podcast of the same name. Macchiarini is a visionary surgeon whose innovative organ transplants seduced the global medical community. When his fiancé, Benita Alexander, and a few suspicious colleagues launch investigations into his botched surgeries, cracks start to appear in Paolo’s charming persona. As Benita learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world makes shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about him into question.

Season 2 hails from showrunner, writer, and executive producer Ashley Michel Hoban. Patrick Macmanus, who served as showrunner, writer, and EP of the show’s freshman season, will executive produce Season 2 via his Littleton Road Productions banner, under his overall deal with UCP.

Jennifer Morrison and Laura Belsey will split directing duties. Morrison is set to direct episodes one to four; Belsey will direct 5-8.

Ramirez most recently portrayed Detective Joe Mendoza in the HBO miniseries The Undoing alongside Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. He will lead the Netflix drama series Florida Man in the role of Mike Valentine.

He’s most notably known for his portrayal of Gianni Versace in Ryan Murphy’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, which earned Ramirez an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series. He was also nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of the titular character in the miniseries Carlos in 2011.

Edgar Ramírez to Star in the Isabel Coixet-Directed Love Story “Nobody’s Heart”

Edgar Ramírez is getting to the Heart of the matter…

The 44-year-old Venezuelan actor will star opposite Gugu Mbatha-Raw in the passionate love story Nobody’s Heart from The Bookshop director Isabel Coixet of Spain.

The film will enter production in January in Portugal.

Adapted from William Boyd’s short story Cork and based on the life of celebrated Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, the film follows Lily (Raw), who is forced to confront the sudden and devastating death of her husband. She inherits his cork factory and begins to form an unexpected, highly charged relationship with his enigmatic co-worker, igniting repressed imagination and passion, and discovering unknown truths about both herself and her late husband.

The film is set against the backdrop of Lisbon in the 1930s, with Coixet directing and John Fiedler producing.

“This is a fascinating, twisted and sexually charged love story between two characters sharing a unique passion with the background of Portugal in the 1930s,” said Coixet. “After reading William Boyd’s script, I completely fell in love with the story and I know there’s a hunger out there for these stories.”

Edgar Ramirez is encouraging everyone to get the COVID-19 vaccine after suffering his own heartbreak…

The 44-yea-old Venezuelan actor has shared via Instagram his very personal story about his loss due to coronavirus.

Ramirez – a Golden Globe and Emmy nominee who has appeared in films and television programs like Carlos, Zero Dark Thirty, The Bourne Ultimatum, Hands of Stone, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and Wrath of the Titans – appealed to people to take the COVID-19 vaccines, citing his relatives who died without access to them in a series of posts.

“I beg you to please read this post carefully . It is the most painful and the most intimate thing I have had to publish in my life, but I think it is important to share it,” he wrote on Instagram. “At times, I feel like it is a nightmare from which I am going to wake up, but I know it is not. That this is as real as the air that at this moment it is difficult for me to breathe.”

He continued, “In my Instagram feed, right next to this post is an interview I had with Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief Medical Advisor to the President of the United States, in which we discussed vital information on how to deal with COVID 19 and the urgent need to get vaccinated, especially those of us who are lucky enough to access to a vaccine. Otmara Marrero to Star Opposite Edgar Ramirez in Netflix Series “Florida Man”

Otmara Marrero is headed to The Sunshine State…

The 32-year-old Cuban American actress will star opposite Edgar Ramirez in Netflix’s eight-episode series Florida Man.

Marrero joins a roster of new cast additions that includes Anthony LaPaglia, Abbey Lee, Lex Scott Davis and Emory Cohen as series regulars, with Clark Gregg joining in a recurring role in the hourlong series from veteran television writer producer Donald Todd and Jason Bateman & Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films.

Additionally, Netflix has tapped Miguel Arteta to direct the pilot and second episode and executive produce. This reunites him with Ramírez with whom he worked on the Netflix feature Yes Day.

Rounding out directors for the season are Julian Farino (eps 3/4), Haifaa Al Mansour (eps 5/6) and Kevin Bray (eps 7/8).

In Florida Man, created by Todd, when a struggling ex-cop (Ramírez) is forced to return to his home state of Florida to find a Philly mobster’s runaway girlfriend, what should be a quick gig becomes a spiraling journey into buried family secrets and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing in a place where so much is wrong. The series is described as a wild odyssey into a sunny place for shady people in the spirit of Body Heat and Elmore Leonard’s Out of Sight.

Marrero is Patsy, Mike’s sister, living in Orlando, is relentlessly upbeat, churchgoing, and bravely soldiering on in the life she made too early with husband Deacon and daughter Tyler.

Marrero’s credits include comedy series Connecting and the role of Izzy Morales on StartUp.

Disney Releases New Trailer for Edgar Ramirez’s “The Jungle Cruise”

Edgar Ramirez is cruisin’…

Disney has released a second trailer for The Jungle Cruise, the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed film starring the 44-year-old Venezuelan actor as the villain alongside Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

The long delay is the result of repeated release date changes. What was originally an October 2019 release became a more blockbuster-friendly July 24, 2020 debut. But then came COVID-19 and the film finally landed in its current July 30, 2021 slot. The movie will also be available day-and-date on Disney+ Premiere Access for $29.99.

The new trailer offers a lot more onboard action than the first, as Johnson’s skipper Frank Wolff and Blunt’s intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton journey downriver in search of an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities. The duo has a close call with a giant waterfall, a submarine — yes, a sub in a remote tropical river — and, of course, zombie conquistadores.

The vibe of the film is a mash-up of Disney’s own Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Indiana Jones and The African Queen – with a dash of Fitzcarraldo.

The trailer — set to the Creedence classic “Run Through the Jungle” — dropped one day after Disneyland officials announced the reopening of the titular ride on which the movie is loosely based. The revamped Jungle Cruise will debut at the Anaheim park on June 16.

Glenn Ficarra & John Requa and Michael Green came up with the story for The Jungle Cruise, with Ficarra & Requa penning the screenplay. Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons and Paul Giamatti also star.

The film is produced by John Davis, John Fox, Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia and Beau Flynn.

Disney to Release Veronica Falcon’s “Jungle Cruise” in July

Veronica Falcon is cruising into summer…

Disney’s Jungle Cruise, starring the 54-year-old Mexican actress and choreographer, will debut in theaters and Disney+ Premier on July 30.

Led by Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, the movie is based on the Disney theme park attraction.

Disney+ Premier means that the movie will be available for in-home purchase to Disney+ subscribers for $29.99 in those territories which have the streaming service.

Previously, it looked like the Jaume Collet-Serra directed film was destined strictly for theaters.

The film also stars Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, Dani Rovira and Quim Gutiérrez.

Universal to Release Penelope Cruz’s Highly Anticipated Femme Action Feature “The 355”

Simon Kinberg’s femme action feature The 355, starring the 47-year-old Spanish Oscar-winning actress, will be released a week earlier, on January 7, 2022.

The film was original scheduled to be released over MLK Weekend.

In the film, five women band together to stop a global organization from acquiring a weapon that could thrust the teetering world into total chaos.

The film was bought by Universal for domestic distribution at the Cannes Film Festival back in 2018 for a reported $20M.

The foreign partners, arranged through FilmNation, are hoping for a global launch for what they hope will be another Bourne Identity–like franchise, this one led by an all female lead cast including Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Lupita Nyong’o, Cruz and Fan Bingbing, with Édgar Ramirez and Sebastian Stan also appearing.

The 355 is directed by Kinberg. He co-wrote the screenplay with Theresa Rebeck.

Edgar Ramírez to Star in Netflix Series “Florida Man”

The 44-year-old Venezuelan actor will star in Florida Man, which has received a formal eight-episode series from Netflix.

Ramirez, the star of the streamer’s popular film Yes Day, will headline the hourlong series from veteran television writer/producer Donald Todd and Jason Bateman & Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films.

The series is not related to limited series Florida Man starring Joel Edgerton, which is in development at Anonymous Content. It’s based on Tom Cooper’s novel, with Graham Gordy writing.

Ramírez stars opposite Jennifer Garner in Netflix’s movie Yes Day, which was estimated to be seen by 53 million households in the first four weeks. He recently starred opposite Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant in HBO’s high-rated and award-winning limited series The Undoing. He soon will begin production on Borderlands and next will star in Disney’s Jungle Cruise and Universal’s The 355.

Ramírez is a two-time Golden Globe nominee for his performances as Carlos the Jackal in Carlos and as Gianni Versace in American Crime Story.

Edgar Ramirez to Star in Eli Roth’s Film Adaptation of “Borderlands” Video Game

The 44-year-old Venezuelan actor will portray Atlas in Eli Roth’s adaptation of the bestselling video game Borderlands for Lionsgate.

Ramirez joins Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Haley Bennett, and Jack Black. In the game, Atlas is a business titan and arms manufacturer, and the most powerful person in the universe.

“What an incredible honor to have an actor of Edgar’s caliber, talent, and charisma playing opposite Cate Blanchett and this remarkable cast,” Roth said. “Atlas has to be a truly magnetic personality, someone with charisma and charm but that air of menace underneath it all. I’ve been a fan of Edgar’s since his early performances and he continues to amaze me with each dramatic turn. We want to create something wild, fun, and very different from anything they’ve seen from Edgar before. I am so, so excited to work with him.”

In the film, Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). The latest draft of the screenplay is by Craig Mazin.

Ramirez has stayed busy over the past year, most recently starring opposite Jennifer Garner in Netflix’s Yes Day. He was also recently seen in HBO’s critically acclaimed limited series, The Undoing. He will next star in Disney’s Jungle Cruise and Universal’s The 355.
