Edgar Ramirez to Star in the Action-Comedy “The Honest Liar”

Edgar Ramirez has earned honest work…

The 47-year-old Venezuelan Golden Globe-nominated actor will star in the action-comedy The Honest Liar.

Edgar RamirezRamirez will star alongside Samuel Jackson and Andra Day in the film.

Altitude is introducing the film to buyers at this week’s American Film Market, with CAA Media Finance handling domestic rights.

Written and directed by Wayne Kramer, the film will see Jackson star as an award-winning actor tasked with teaching rookie undercover cops how to act like criminals so they can save their own lives when on the job.

The film will be produced by Hollywood veteran Dan Grodnik and Jeffrey Reisner, through their new outfit Golden Eagle Movie Studios, and executive-produced by Gail Thackray and Tracy Beam.

Cameras are due to roll early next year.

The official synopsis reads: “Nick DeFranco is an award-winning actor facing jail time when he falls for an undercover sting. Nick criticizes the undercover police for their terrible “acting’ that he can’t believe he fell for. He knew something was wrong and went for it anyway. Impressed by Nick’s acting ability, the Police Captain offers Nick probation instead of hard time, in return for teaching his team how to act like real dealers. Nick has no choice but to agree. When Nick gets involved with a female rookie, he finds himself playing amateur undercover cop and getting more involved than intended, putting them both in danger of blowing her cover with some dangerous criminals.”

Grodnik said: “Wayne Kramer’s forte is creating original stories around people we care about. The Honest Liar grabbed me from the first page, drew me in emotionally, never took its foot off the gas, and ended on a satisfying high note. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick will make this a must see movie.”

Zoe Saldaña is mixing music, crime and comedy…

Netflix has released the first teaser for one of its most anticipated films of the year — the Spanish-language musical crime comedy Emilia Peréz, starring the 46-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American actress,

Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia GasconHailing from Jacques Audiard, the film won multiple awards in its premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Hitting select theaters in the U.S. and Canada on November 1 before debuting on the streamer on November 13, Emilia Peréz implements song, dance and bold visuals to chronicle the journeys of four remarkable women in Mexico, each pursuing their own happiness.

Among them is Rita (Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, who agrees to help the fearsome cartel leader Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón) fake her death so that she can finally live authentically as her true self.

Also starring Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz and Edgar Ramírez, the film garnered an 11-minute standing ovation in its premiere in Competition at Cannes, winning the Jury Prize and the award for Best Actress, which was shared by the female members of the ensemble, as well as the Cannes Soundtrack Award.

Out of Cannes, Netflix snapped up North American and UK rights to the film, which was one of the buzziest participating in this year’s market.

In her review for Deadline at the time, Stephanie Bunbury said of the film, “On paper, it looks mad as a loose wheel. A largely Spanish-language musical about a Mexican druglord having a sex change, featuring a onetime Disney teen star Selena Gomez as a gangster’s wife…but here it is on the screen, a musical marvel.”

Peacock Releases Trailer for Season 2 of Edgar Ramírez Series “Dr. Death”

Death still becomes Edgar Ramírez

Peacock has released the official teaser and premiere date for Season 2 of Dr. Death starring the 46-year-old Venezuelan actor and Mandy Moore.

Edgar Ramírez, Dr. DeathAll eight episodes will drop on Thursday, December 21 on the streamer.

Season 2 is based on the “Miracle Man” season of the Wondery podcast. It follows Paolo Macchiarini (Ramírez), a superstar celebrity surgeon who ascended to global fame after performing the world’s first synthetic organ transplant. When investigative journalist Benita Alexander (Moore) approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever. As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about Paolo into question.

Other cast members include Luke Kirby, Ashley Madekwe and Gustaf Hammarsten.

“The joy of an anthology series is the freedom to explore variations on a theme,” said Ashley Michel HobanDr. Death showrunner, EP and writer. “Dr. Death is a show about systemic failures, and this season, these issues reach a global scale. Amid complex narratives, we’ve been fortunate to delve deeply into a story that, while entirely unique, remains surprisingly familiar, as it taps into a truly universal part of the human condition: illness. Even putting aside any recent global pandemics, we all know what it’s like to feel sick. It renders us vulnerable, small, in desperate need of help. A doctor we can trust.”

“This pursuit of trust and truth is what ties our two stories together this season,” Hoban continued. “Two stories that, on the surface, may not seem to have much else in common: Doctors in Sweden on the verge of a breakthrough. A journalist in New York falling in love. However, both revolve around individuals made to feel small. They’re about people standing up to something bigger, for something bigger, and how their seemingly small choices ripple out into the world to give power and voice to those who have been made to feel powerless and silenced.”

Jennifer Morrison directed episodes 1-4, while Laura Belsey helmed episodes 5-8.

Dr. Death is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The streamer will also release a companion documentary called Dr. Death: Cutthroat Conman, about the rise and fall of Macchiarini, on Thursday, December 21. It’s from Maxine Productions (a part of Sony Pictures Television), and Universal Television Alternative Studio and chronicles how the surgeon was exposed as an international con man whose web of lies extended decades.

Edgar Ramirez, Wolf Like Me“In the second season of Wolf Like Me, Mary (Isla Fisher) and Gary (Josh Gad) leap into the next phase of their relationship and face their biggest challenge yet: pregnancy. As much as they try to have a ‘normal’ pregnancy, it seems impossible with so many questions looming over them. Will their child be a baby or a wolf pup? Just how long can they keep things secret from the rest of their family? And will what happened in the outback come back to haunt them? But when Mary’s former professor, Anton (Ramirez), suddenly reappears in her life, new secrets from Mary’s past are revealed, leaving Mary and Gary to question whether they’re even meant to be together.”

The cast for Season 2 also includes Ariel Donoghue, Emma Lung, Anthony Taufa, and Honour Latukefu.

Abe Forsythe created the series and serves as writer, director, and executive producer via Little Monsters. Made Up Stories produces in partnership with Fifth Season and Stan.

Forsythe wrote a message to fans about the new season prior to the launch of the writers’ strike, which can also be seen below.

Note from Abe Forsythe:

When season one of “Wolf Like Me” concluded, there were countless directions the story and characters could take. I recognized that if we were going to continue, it needed to be just as daring for me as it was for my characters. Mary and Gary’s universe is expanding and is rife with a wealth of new characters, interactions and threats…

In this new world, Isla’s portrayal of Mary continued to surprise me with her heartbreaking vulnerability. She’s operating at another level this season and it continues to be a privilege to push her further and further into what she does best. And Josh always impresses me with how he can register ridiculousness in a way that lets the audience into how crazy everything is, without breaking the tension and letting it fall apart. This season, humor plays an even larger role as we explore the inherent absurdity that ensues when their secrets spill into the open.

Season one was a testament to the mysterious forces of the universe bringing Mary, Gary and Emma together. As we delve into season two, we ask a new question: Is the universe now conspiring to pull them apart?

It’s safe to say that with this new season of “Wolf Like Me,” you can truly expect the unexpected.
