Chavira to Appear on The CW’s “Jane The Virgin”

Ricardo Chavira is heading to Virgin territory…

The 45-year-old Mexican American actor and former Desperate Housewives star has landed a recurring role on the upcoming third season of The CW’s Jane The Virgin, playing Xo’s (Andrea Navedo) ex-boyfriend who dated her when he was married.

In one of several cliffhangers in the Season 2 finale, Xo, who had just slept with ex-husband Rogelio’s nemesis Esteban, was seen holding a positive pregnancy test for a baby that could be any of the two men’s.

Chavira starred as Carlos Solis opposite Eva Longoria on all eight seasons of ABC’s Desperate Housewives and has been recurring as presidential candidate Francisco Vargas on ABC’s Scandal.

He’ll next be seen opposite Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant on Netflix’s new comedy series Santa Clarita Diet.

The 44-year-old Mexican American actor and former Desperate Housewives star, who has a high-profile recurring role on Scandal this season, is set to co-star opposite Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant in Santa Clarita Diet, Netflix’s upcoming single-camera comedy series

From creator Victor Fresco, the series is set for 2017 debut.

In Santa Clarita Diet, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending both their lives down a road of death and destruction — but in a good way.

Chavira will play their neighbor, a law-enforcement officer who loves his work.

Chavira plays presidential candidate Senator Vargas on ABC’s Scandal this season.

MTV Releases Trailer for Thorne’s New Series “Scream”

Bella Thorne’s ready to make you scream…

MTV’s television adaptation of the horror movie franchise, Scream, starring the 17-year-old half-Cuban American actress-singer, is set to premiere this summer, and the network has released the first official trailer

Thorne, who portrays Nina Patterson in the Scream series, announced the premiere date and introduced the first look preview Sunday at the MTV Movie Awards.

Scream will follow the aftermath of a cyber-bullying incident that results in a shocking murder. The brutal event brings back memories from of past killing spree that has haunted some, possibly inspires a new killer and brings together a new group of teens.

The television adaptation also stars Willa Fitzgerald, Amy Forsyth, John Karna, Carlson Young and Amadeus Serafini. Jamie Travis directed the pilot. Wes Craven, who directed the original flicks, serves as an executive producer.

The original 1996 feature was written by Kevin Williamson and featured Neve Campell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Matthew Lillard and Drew Barrymore.

The series will premiere on MTV on June 30.

Diaz to Appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night”

It’s game on for Cameron Diaz…

The 41-year-old half-Cuban American actress will appear during Jimmy Kimmel’s primetime editions of Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night.

For the seventh consecutive year, in conjunction with the NBA Finals, ABC will air the late night talk show host’s primetime specials, which will air every night of the NBA Finals beginning with Game 1 on Thursday, June 5.

Broadcasts will feature basketball editions of Kimmel’s signature comedy bits Mean Tweets and Lie Witness News.

In addition to Diaz, guests for these shows include Jason Segel, Tracy Morgan, Mila Kunis, Martin Lawrence, Snoop Dogg, Psy, Ice Cube and more.

New Trailer Released for Thorne’s “Blended,” Starring Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore

It’s an African vacation of comical proportions for Bella Thorne…

The latest trailer has been released for the 16-year-old half-Cuban American actress and former Disney Channel star’s latest film Blended.

Starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in their third onscreen pairing, the comedy follows two single parents who endured a painfully bad blind date and later happen to sign their kids up for the same African safari vacation — and end up sharing a suite for a week.

In the new trailer, Thorne’s character gets beauty advice and a makeover from Barrymore’s character.

In addition to Thorne, Sandler and Barrymore, the film also stars Joel McHale, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kevin Nealon and Terry Crews.

Blended opens in theaters on May 23.

Lopez to Receive Vanguard Award at the GLAAD Media Awards

It’s a Vanguard moment for Jennifer Lopez…

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican singer-actress and American Idol judge will be feted at the GLAAD Media Awards next month, the LGBT advocacy organization announced Monday.

Lopez, an executive producer on ABC Family’s The Fosters, will be recognized with the Vanguard Award at the ceremony, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton on April 12.

The Vanguard Award is presented to artists and media professionals who, through their work, have increased the visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Along with her strong support of LGBT issues in the media, Lopez is being recognized for her work on The Fosters, a GLAAD Media Award-nominated drama series about a lesbian couple raising a family of biological, adopted and foster children. Lopez’s inspiration for producing The Fosters came from her late aunt, who faced prejudice because of her sexual orientation and was unable to have her own family.

“Through her work to bring The Fosters to life and by consistently speaking out as a powerful ally, Jennifer Lopez has not only sent a message of acceptance to LGBT adults and young people, but inspired new support for our community among her many fans around the globe,” said GLAAD CEO and president Sarah Kate Ellis. “Family is about love, and that’s a message Jennifer has shared with millions through her groundbreaking work on The Fosters.”

First Trailer Released for Thorne’s “Blended”

Bella Thorne is Africa-bound in her latest project…

Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for Blended, the Adam Sandler– and Drew Barrymore-starrer featuring the 16-year-old half-Cuban actress, singer and soon-to-be published author.

The film tells the tale of two single-parent survivors of a particularly heinous blind date who happen to sign their kids up for the same African safari vacation — and end up sharing a suite for a week.

The Warner Bros pic also stars Joel McHale, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kevin Nealon and Terry Crews.

Frank Coraci directed from a screenplay by Ivan Menchell and Clare Sera. The Gulfstream Pictures/Happy Madison film is produced by Mike Karz, Sandler and Jack Giarraputo.

Blended is set to open nationwide Memorial Day weekend next year.

Thorne Starring Opposite Kyra Sedgwick in the Thriller “Big Sky”

The (big) sky’s the limit for Bella Thorne…

The 16-year-old half-Cuban American actress and former Shake It Up star has signed on to star opposite Kyra Sedgwick in the thriller Big Sky.

The film is the English language debut of Jorge Michel Grau, who directed the original Spanish language thriller We Are What We Are.

Thorne will portray Hazel while the former The Closer star will play her protective mother Dee.

On their way to a desert facility to help Hazel deal with her paralyzing agoraphobia, the two find themselves attacked by gunmen and the teen has to fight her own demons for the mother-daughter duo to survive.

Production on the film, from an original screenplay by Evan M. Wiener, starts this week in Albuquerque.

It’s the latest project for the Disney Channel star, who is taking on more mature material.

Earlier this year, Thorne joined the cast of Home Invasion and starred in the Adam Sandler–Drew Barrymore comedy The Familymoon (previously called Blended).

She is next set for Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Thorne’s Disney Channel Series “Shake It Up” Drawing to an End

Bella Thorne’s star-making days at the Disney Channel are coming to an end.

The network has announced that its original series Shake It Up, which stars the 15-year-old half-Cuban American actress, will wrap up its run after 78 episodes. The final round of shows will air this summer.

The move to wrap production on Shake It Up while it remains strong – it’s the No. 1 TV series year-to-date in the kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 demos – is not uncommon of the network, which tends to cap its original series after a set time.

In June, the Disney Channel said it was ending Good Luck Charlie after four seasons, 100 episodes and a hit TV movie.

But Thorne won’t be out of work…

She has a recording deal with Disney’s Hollywood Records, a three-book deal with Random House, and was just cast in the indie thriller Home Invasion.

Additionally Thorne recently completed shooting on the Adam Sandler–Drew Barrymore film Blended.

Bella Thorne is shaking things up for her next project…

The 15-year-old half-Cuban American actress, the star of the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up, has landed one of the lead roles in Home Invasion.

Helmed by rookie feature Director Sean Carter, the thriller centers on a family imprisoned by intruders who play a life-and-death game in which the mysterious rules become clear as the night unfolds.

Thorne, who will be penning a series of Young Adult books, will portray Jamie, a disillusioned teenager intensely guarding a personal secret.

Home Invasion was written by first-time scribe Joseph Dembner.

It’s the latest film role for Thorne, whose Shake It Up is in its third season on the Disney Channel. She recently wrapped a role in the Adam Sandler–Drew Barrymore comedy Blended.

Thorne is nominated for an Imagen Award in the Best Young Actress, Television category. She’s also signed to Disney’s Hollywood Records.
