The 28-year-old Mexican American singer/actress has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart with her first Spanish-language album Revelación on the March 27-dated survey.
Her album arrives with 23,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 18, according to MRC Data — marking the biggest week for a Latin album by a woman since 2017.
“I never go into anything expecting a No. 1 so I do not take it for granted,” Gomez tells Billboard. “It’s always a bit nerve racking before releasing any music because as artists we put so much of ourselves out there. For this EP specifically, I was the most nervous I have been in a long time because my heritage means so much to me and I have been talking about doing this for over 10 years. I wanted it to be perfect. I am thrilled to see the response from my fans and also from people who might not have listened to my other music.”
The Top Latin Albums chart ranks the most popular Latin albums of the week in the U.S. based on multimetric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.
The seven-trackRevelación was released March 12 via Interscope/IGA. Of its starting sum of 23,000 equivalent album units, album sales comprise 14,000 and the bulk of the remainder are SEA units (equaling 12.21 million on-demand streams of the set’s songs). Gomez’s debut Latin project boasts the biggest week for a Latin album by a woman in nearly four years, since Shakira’s El Dorado started with 29,000 units in its first week (chart dated June 17, 2017).
“Without a doubt the most challenging aspect was having to do all of the sessions over Zoom,” Gomez adds. “We started recording the EP right before COVID-19 shut everything down. In the beginning there were times I ended up canceling sessions because I found it so uninspiring not to be in the same room with everyone. I eventually was able to get past it and am extremely happy with how the music came together. [Producer] Tainy was very patient with me while I worked through my frustrations.”
Revelación is the first album by a female act at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums since Shakira’s El Dorado spent its fifth and final nonconsecutive week atop the list dated Aug. 5, 2017.
Gomez also notches the highest debut by a female solo act since Jenni Rivera’s Paloma Negra Desde Monterrey likewise debuted atop the list in November 2016. In between Rivera and Gomez, a collaborative set by two women launched at No. 1: Gloria Trevi and Alejandra Guzman’s Versusin July 2017.
As Gomez’s “Baila Conmigo,” with Rauw Alejandro, concurrently takes over the top spot on the new Latin Airplay chart, she becomes the first female act in over a decade to rule both charts simultaneously. The last woman to achieve the feat was Shakira when Sale el Soland “Loca,” featuring El Cata, ruled both Top Latin Albums and Latin Airplay, respectively in November 2010.
Elsewhere, Gomez places a total of four tracks on Hot Latin Songs, all from Revelación — one of which debuts in the top 20: “Baila Conmigo” with Rauw Alejandro lifts 8-5, “Selfish Love,” with DJ Snake, is at No. 18, “Dámelo To’,” featuring Myke Towers, starts at No. 20, and “De Una Vez,” re-enters at No. 50.
“Releasing ‘De Una Vez’ as the first song was the perfect way to introduce the new music,” Gomez says. “It’s a song I really related to and I think it’s beautiful with a message of hope and healing. I think all of the collaborators bring different elements to the table. With Snake it was great because we have a history together so on a mere comfort level that was nice to have. On ‘Dámelo Tó’ Myke brings this smooth rap and it makes you crave for it to be summer because it has the kind of vibe. When we were recording ‘Baila Conmigo’ I knew we needed a male voice on it and Rauw has the ideal sexy, soulful voice that really complements the song perfectly.”
Revelación concurrently bows at No. 1 on Latin Pop Albumsand at No. 22 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

The trippy music video, directed by award-winning filmmaker Rodrigo Saavedra, features SelGo working at a house of mirrors disguised as a beauty salon that will make men think twice before stepping in to get a haircut.
Earlier this week, Gomez revealed the full track list of the seven-song set, including “Baila Conmigo” with Rauw Alejandro, “De Una Vez,” “Dámelo To’” with Myke Towers, “Buscando Amor,” “Vicio” and “Adios.”
The low-key dance track follows Gomez’s 2018 collaboration with DJ Snake on “Taki Taki,” also featuring Cardi B and Ozuna, and tells the story of a girl who admits she has some jealous feelings.

News of the EP comes a day after Gomez announced the Tainy-produced “Baila Conmigo.” She shared a photo on social media that shows Selena rocking her shoulder-length hair, a fitted dress with a red-orange spotlight.
Earlier this month, the multi-hyphenate dropped “De Una Vez,” her first Spanish single in a decade, produced by Tainy, Albert Hype, Jota Rosa, and Neon16. In the song, Gomez opens up about healing from a previous relationship and discovering her self-worth.

Selena Gomezis makin’ a salpicadura on the Latin charts…
The 28-year-old Mexican American singer has clocked her second top five on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart as “De Una Vez” debuts at No. 4 on the January 30 survey.
Gomez’s all Spanish-language song arrives a little more than two years since her first No. 1 on the chart: Her featured role on DJ Snake’s bilingual “Taki Taki,” which also features Ozuna and Cardi B, reigned for 13 weeks starting on the chart dated October 13, 2018.
“De Una Vez” was released January 14 and bows at No. 4 on the all-metric list mainly powered by streaming activity and digital sales. It starts with 5.6 million U.S. streams earned in the week ending Jan. 21, according to MRC Data, propelling a No. 5 debut on Latin Streaming Sales.
The rhythmic pop track, which was produced by Tainy, Albert Hype, Jota Rosa and Neon16, concurrently registers 5,000 downloads, and it sits at No. 1 for a second week on the Latin Digital Song Sales tally (after debuting a week earlier from one day of sales activity in the week ending January 14). It starts at No. 14 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart.
Gomez is just the seventh female act to debut in the top five on Hot Latin Songs in the last three years. Out of all, Cardi B, Karol G, Rosalía and now herself have snatched two top five debuts. Let’s take a look at all the titles:

The Latin Grammy Award nominations have been announced, with the 35-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer leading the pack of nominees with 13 nominations.
J Balvin’s nominations include two for album of the year and two for record of the year (“Rojo” & “China”).
Balvin has a chance to win his first album of the year prize — a category with 10 contenders — thanks to his fifth solo album “Colores” and “Oasis,” his collaborative project with Bad Bunny. Other nominees include Bad Bunny’s sophomore release “YHLQMDLG” as well as albums from Ricky Martin, Carlos Vives, Jesse & Joy, Kany García, Natalia Lafourcade, Camilo and Fito Paez.
Bad Bunny received nine nominations, including two for album of the year (YHLQMDLG & Oasis) and one for record of the year (“Vete”).
Ozuna has eight nominations, including one for record of the year (“China”).
For record of the year, which also has 10 nominees, contenders include popular hip-hop-flavored Latin songs that have dominated the Latin music charts and earned hundreds of millions plays on streaming services, with some even reaching the billion-mark on YouTube, including Karol G and Nicki Minaj’s global hit “Tusa” and “China” by Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Ozuna, Balvin and Marco Masis. Other nominees include Balvin’s “Rojo” and Bad Bunny’s “Vete.”
“Tusa” is the sole Latin trap nominee in the song of the year category, where 11 tracks are in contention. It’s a departure for Karol G, who didn’t receive a single nomination last year and was part of the group of uber-successful Latin trap and reggaeton artists who were dissed in top categories like album, song and record of the year.
This year, the 29-year-old Colombian performer, who was named best new artist in 2018, has four nominations, including two shared with Minaj. Karol G’s fiance, Puerto Rican rapper-singer Anuel AA, marked a major breakthrough this year as a first-time nominee. He scored seven nominations, including a bid for best new artist.
“Over the last year, we continued engaging in discussions with our members to improve the awards process and actively encouraged diverse Latin music creators to join and participate,” Latin Academy President and CEO Gabriel Abaroa Jr. said in a statement, calling this year’s nominees “a group that reflects the constant evolution of Latin music.”
As a result of last year’s debacle social media exploded as Latin artists posted images of the Grammy logo with a large red “X″ across it, with words on the image reading in Spanish: “Without reggaeton, there’s no Latin Grammys.” Balvin even skipped the live show and Bad Bunny, who won best urban music album during the telecast, told the audience: “With all due respect, reggaeton is part of the Latin culture.”
To honor Latin rap and reggaeton performers, the Latin Grammys added new categories this year, including best reggaeton performance and best rap/hip-hop song.
Balvin’s 13 nominations includes several categories where he will compete with himself: Outside of album and record of the year, he’s a double nominee in the best urban music album, best urban fusion/performance and best reggaeton performance categories. Ozuna and Bad Bunny will also compete with themselves in several categories.
Others who scored multiple nominations include Juanes, Martin, Alejandro Sanz, Camilo, Carlos Vives, Kany García and Residente, the most decorated winner in the history of Latin Grammys. Rosalía, who won album of the year last year and became the first solo female performer to win the top honor since Shakira’s triumph in 2006, earned four nominations this year.
Apart from Minaj’s two nominations, other popular American artists who will compete for awards include rapper Travis Scott (best short form music video for “TKN” with Rosalía); jazz master Chick Corea and his Spanish Heart Band (best Latin jazz/jazz album for “Antidote”); DJ-producer Diplo (best urban song for “Rave de Favela” ); and rapper Tyga (best reggaeton performance for “Loco Contigo” with DJ Snake and Balvin). Justin Bieber’s right-hand songwriter, Jason Boyd aka Poo Bear, earned an album of the year nomination for his work on Jesse & Joy’s “Aire (Versión Día).”
The 21st annual Latin Grammy Awards will air live on November 19 on Univision. The nominees in the 53 categories were selected from more than 18,000 entries. Songs and albums released between June 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020 were eligible for nomination.

BMI has announced the winners of its 27th annual BMI Latin Awards, including the 28-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap singer’s “Taki Taki.”
The winners were announced online after BMI canceled its March 31 awards ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other top winners include songwriter/producer Gaby Music, aka Juan Rivera Vazquez, who won contemporary Latin songwriter of the year for “Taki Taki,” sharing the honor with Ozuna, Dimelo Vi‘s Vicente Saavedra and Jorden “Pardison Fontaine” Thorpe.
Christian Nodal‘s “No Te Contaron Mal,” penned by Edgar Barrera, was named regional Mexican song of the year. The track spent 38 weeks atop Billboard’s Regional Mexican Songs chart.
The regional Mexican songwriter of the year award went to Geovani Cabrera for “A Través Del Vaso,” “El Lujo De Tenerte,” “Segunda Opción” and “Te Darán Ganas De Verme,” bringing his career total to 12 BMI Latin Awards.
The BMI Latin publisher of the year award, for the fifth year in a row, went to Sony/ATV Music Publishing with 16 of the most-performed songs, including “Taki Taki,” “Ambiente,” “Amigos Con Derechos,” among others.

William Morris Endeavor (WME) has announced that the agency will represent the 30-year-old Puerto Rican record producer and songwriter, whose real name is Marco Masis, in all areas worldwide.
Tainy, who continues to be managed by Lex Borreroat Neon16, will work across all departments of the agency to build his business. Billboard hasconfirmed that this is the first time he’s been represented by a talent agency.
After a successful 2019 as an artist, landing at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Producerschart for 26 consecutive weeks, Tainy crowned the year-end Hot Latin Songs Producerschart, followed by DJ Snake, Mambo Kingz and DJ Luian.
His roster includes recent chart-topping hits such as Cardi B’s “I Like It,” “Callaita” in collaboration with Bad Bunny, “Adicto” in collaboration with Anuel AAandOzuna, and “I Can’t Get Enough,” for which he teamed up with Benny Blanco, Selena Gomez and J Balvin.
Tainy is currently nominated for best Latin rock, urban or alternative album at the 2020 Grammy Awardsfor his work on Bad Bunny’s X 100Preand on J Balvinand Bad Bunny’s joint album Oasis.
The iHeartRadio Music Awards nominated have been revealed, with the 22-year-old Mexican/Cuban singer picking up six nods, the most of any Latina/o artist.
Cabello earned nods in the Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Lyrics and Best Music Video categories for “Señorita,” her chart-topping collaboration with Shawn Mendes.
Cabello is also up for Best Fan Army, as well as Best Cover Song for her cover of Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved.”
