Longoria Ready to Hit the Campaign Trail as Obama’s National Co-Chair

Eva Longoria is taking her role as a national co-chair on President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign seriously…

“As soon as the show wraps, I’m going on the campaign trail and going to the swing states,” the Desperate Housewives star told The Hollywood Reporter at a pre-Oscar bash, which she co-hosted with Vanity Fair. “Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, and I’m probably going to Florida as well.”

The 36-year-old Mexican-American actress, a loyal Obama supporter who hosted a special Latino fundraiser for the president in Los Angeles last year, says she’s planning to focus her campaigning efforts on influencing two key groups that hold close ties to her heart.

“Just really messaging to not only to the Latino community, but the female community,” she explained.

Obama may have won the Latino vote in 2008, but in recent years some activists have been disappointed in the president’s indecision on the issue of comprehensive immigration reform. And, other one-time Obama-supporters have also started to think differently about their choice.

“I always find that really odd,” said Longoria. “Because he’s really made some bold promises and he’s kept them.” The actress went on to explain promises she believes the president has kept, including healthcare and “holding Wall Street accountable for their contributions to the economy.”

“There are so many things that he has delivered on that I find people overlook,” she continued. “And I think the rhetoric against him is so sharp from the primaries, that it’s dangerous for people to buy into the misinformation that’s out there.”

So what’s Longoria’s message to undecided voters?

“I think people really just have to educate themselves on what he has done, what he is still doing and what he is going to do.”

Reyes Cast in ABC’s Devious Maids Pilot

Judy Reyes is trading in her scrubs for a maid’s outfit…

The 44-year-old Dominican American actress—best known for her role as nurse Carla Espinosa on Scrubs—has been cast as the fourth lead in the ABC pilot Devious Maids, from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.

Judy Reyes

Based on the Mexican telenovela Ellas son… la alegría del hogar, the drama centers on four ambitious maids who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills while trying to make their own dreams come true.

Reyes will play Zoila, the senior maid at the Delacourt household whose intelligence is matched only by her humor. She works alongside her teenage daughter Valentina, who serves as the junior maid at mansion.

Reyes rounds out an all-star Latina cast that includes former Heroes star Dania Ramirez, former Without a Trace star Roselyn Sanchez and former Ugly Betty star Ana Ortiz.

Sanchez to Star in ABC’s Devious Maids Pilot

Roselyn Sanchez is apparently maid to order…

The 38-year-old Puerto Rican actress/singer has landed  one of the lead roles in ABC’s Devious Maids pilot, alongside former Ugly Betty star Ana Ortiz and former Heroes star Dania Ramirez.

Roselyn Sanchez

From Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, the drama follows four ambitious with big dreams of their own who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. The concept is based on a popular Spanish-language telenovela.

The former Without a Trace star will play Carmen, an aspiring singer who carries herself like the rich and famous woman she knows she’ll become one day be. She works for a self-absorbed Cuban-American pop star, played by newcomer Angelique Cabral, who is constantly on tour.

Meantime, Sanchez will next co-star in Relativity Media’s Act Of Valor, which opens tomorrow.

Longoria Named National Obama Campaign Co-Chair

She’s a longtime and unwavering supporter of President Barack Obama… And, now Eva Longoria is stepping up to help with Obama’s re-election campaign.

The 36-year-old Mexican-American actress, who hosted a special Latino fundraiser for President Barack Obama in Los Angeles, has been named a national co-chair on Obama’s campaign.

Considered an indication of the incumbent’s strategic thinking as his campaign shifts into high gear, Obama’s appointment of Longoria and 34 other strategic supporters as “co-chairs” serves as a roadmap not just to where the president and his advisers see his support, but also to where they hope to strengthen or expand it.

The appointment of the Desperate Housewives star, who vigorously campaigned for Obama the last time around, recognizes Longoria’s personal loyalty to the president and shines a spotlight on the importance Obama and his strategists are attaching to Hollywood in this crucial stage of their reelection campaign. They’ll be looking to the entertainment industry for both contributions and high visibility celebrity endorsements like the ringing one provided by Longoria.

But Longoria isn’t the only Latina/o on the co-chair list… In all, seven of the appointees are of Hispanic descent.

The Latino vote went to Obama in 2008, but hard economic times have battered many communities of recent immigrants — like Los Angeles — and some activists have been disappointed by the president’s lukewarm engagement with the issue of comprehensive immigration reform.

This week’s appointments indicate that Obama’s reelection campaign is determined to shore up its Latino base with appointments ranging from San Antonio’s popular mayor Julian Castro to Los Angeles chief executive Antonio Villaraigosa and local labor leader Maria Elena Durazo of the AFL-CIO.

According to the Obama reelection campaign, the new co-chairs will act as the president’s electoral ambassadors with a special emphasize on getting out the vote in all 50 states.

Ortiz to Star in ABC’s Devious Maids Pilot

It’s official… Ana Ortiz is about to unleash her devious-side in the heart of Beverly Hills…

The 41-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress has signed on to play the central character in ABC’s Devious Maids pilot.

Ana Ortiz

Created by Marc Cherry—who brought Desperate Housewives to life—based on a Mexican telenovela, the concept of the show centers on four ambitious maids trying to make their own dreams come true while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.

Ortiz, who rose to fame as America Ferrera’s sister on Ugly Betty, will lead the quartet as Marisol, a college-educated woman with a secret agenda for finding work as a maid in the upscale neighborhood. Her beloved son has recently been convicted of murder, and Marisol is intent on finding out all she can about the case.

Ortiz is the second of the maids cast in the project, following the casting of former Heroes actress Dania Ramirez.

Ortiz most recently appeared in Martin Lawrence’s action-comedy Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and guest-starred on HBO’s Hung.

Ramirez Cast in ABC’s Devious Maids Pilot

Dania Ramirez is apparently maid for ABC’s latest project from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.

The 32-year-old Dominican actress is the first lead cast to star in the pilot for Cherry’s Devious Maids, which centers on four ambitious maids trying to realize their own dreams while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.
Dania Ramirez

Devious Maids is an adaptation of Televisa’s popular telenovela Ellas son… la alegría del hogar (The Disorderly Maids of the Neighborhood), which centered on five housekeepers who work in a quiet condominium where nothing ever happens until the residents become divided over the building of a new swimming pool during a severe water shortage.

Ramirez will reportedly play Rosie, a single mother who left her son in Mexico when her husband died, crossed the border illegally and now works as a housemaid/nanny for two self-absorbed and successful actors.

Ramirez, best known for playing Maya Herrera on NBC’s  Heroes, most recently appeared as Alex on HBO’s Entourage. She’ll next appear in the film projects American Reunion and Premium Rush.

ABC Has Ordered a Pilot of Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids

Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry’s drama about Latina maids in Beverly Hills is one step closer to becoming a reality.

ABC has just ordered a pilot of the hour-long drama Devious Maids, an adaptation of Televisa’s popular telenovela Ellas son… la alegría del hogar (The Disorderly Maids of the Neighborhood), which centered on five housekeepers who worked in a quiet condominium where nothing much ever happens until the residents became divided over the building of a new swimming pool during a severe water shortage. One day, one of tenants mysteriously disappears, a suitcase full of money appears—along with a dead body at the bottom of the half-finished pool—and the maids find themselves smack dab in the middle of it all.

The American version, written and executive produced by Cherry, would follow four ambitious maids who work for the filthy rich and unbelievably famous in Beverly Hills while tryin to make their own dreams a reality.

Still no word on who would play the four maids, but ABC recently signed this year’s Sundance Film Festival darling Gina Rodriguez to a talent deal.
