Vergara: Television’s Highest-Paid Actress

She’s one of the hardest working women in Hollywood… And, now Sofia Vergara is reaping the rewards for her red-hot career…

Forbes magazine has just released its list of the highest paid actresses on television in the past year, with the 40-year-old Colombian actress unseating Eva Longoria at the top of the list.

Sofia Vergara

Forbes estimates that Vergara, who reportedly got engaged last week, raked in $19 million from May 2011 to May 2012. That hefty sum is due in large part to the seven-figure advance from her Kmart clothing line (to the tune of $7 million dollars by the end of 2012), English-language endorsement deals with Cover Girl and Diet Pepsi, as well as Spanish-language endorsement deals with Burger King, Comcast and State Farm (which amount to a whopping $12 million). Vergara serves as one half of the management company Latin World Entertainment, which should help secure her status as a rising entertainment mogul.

Vergara narrowly beat out Kim Kardashian, with the reality star earning an estimated $18 million over the same time frame. Kardashian’s earnings include $10 million for her E! wedding special. Kardashian, like Vergara, also has her hand in the fashion industry with a cost-conscious clothing line through Sears, which she designs alongside her sisters.

Meanwhile, last year’s No. 1, Eva Longoria, dropped to third place despite increasing her earnings by $2 million.  The 37-year-old Mexican American actress pulled in a grand total of $15 million during the same time period. Longoria earned an estimated $8 million for her role on the final season of ABC’s Desperate Housewives. In addition, Longoria’s endorsement deals with L’Oreal and Pepsi Next earned her $5 million and sales of her cookbook, two fragrances and a handful of small movie roles rounded out her earnings.

Here’s a look at the Top 10 female earners in TV:

1. Sofia Vergara: $19 million

2. Kim Kardashian: $18 million

3. Eva Longoria: $15 million

4. Bethenny Frankel: $12 million

5. Khloe Kardashian Odom: $11 million

6. Tina Fey: $11 million

7. Mariska Hargitay: $10 million

8. Zooey Deschanel: $9 million

8. Felicity Huffman: $9 million

8. Ellen Pompeo: $9 million

Sanchez’s “Devious Maids” Headed to Lifetime…

It’s official… Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids pilot, starring Roselyn Sanchez, will be heading to series at Lifetime.

The cable network has delivered a 13-episode order for the ABC Studios-produced project, which was originally developed for ABC but didn’t get picked to go to series.

Devious Maids

“This show and Marc Cherry’s unique story telling voice perfectly articulate Lifetime’s strategy of attracting top-tier creatives with their most original and exciting projects,” said Lifetime’s president Nancy Dubuc and EVP Rob Sharenow in a joint statement.

Based on the hit Mexican telenovela Ellas son la Alegría del Hogar, Devious Maids follows the lives of a group of ambitious maids who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills while attempting to make their own dreams reality.

Along with Sanchez, Devious Maids stars Ana Ortiz, Judy Reyes, Dania Ramirez and Susan Lucci.

The pilot will reportedly undergo some tweaking and reshoots for its move to Lifetime, according to Deadline.com, including the possible elimination of the role played by Angelique Cabral.

Devious Maids will be executive produced by Cherry, who wrote the adaptation, as well as his producing partner Sabrina Wind and Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria.

Production on Devious Maids will be based in Atlanta, with the series slated to launch on Lifetime in 2013.

Sanchez’s Devious Maids Project May Be Heading to Lifetime

Even though ABC didn’t send Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids project starring Roselyn Sanchez to series, the project may be getting a lifeline…

Lifetime is reportedly reviewing the pilot, which didn’t make the cut of shows picked up by ABC for the upcoming fall season despite an all-star cast that includes the 38-year-old Puerto Rican actress/singer, as well as Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz, HeroesDania Ramirez and ScrubsJudy Reyes.

Devious Maids

Lifetime has had preliminary conversations with Devious Maids’ producers and ABC Studios about bringing the project to life at the women’s cable network, according to Deadline.com.

Lifetime has been looking at several recent pilots, as well as cancelled series like CBSUnforgettable. But Devious Maids seems to be closer than most to the new, younger and sexier direction the cable network is taking with series like The Client List. Additionally, Lifetime is the off-network home of Cherry’s recently retired hit drama Desperate Housewives, making Devious Maids a match maid in heaven for the show that helped make Eva Longoria an international star.

Based on a Mexican telenovela, Devious Maids—which is being executive produced by Longoriafollows four maids (Ortiz, Ramirez, Sanchez and Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.

Vergara Named One of the World’s Most Beautiful Women by People

In People magazine’s quest to name the 2012 World’s Most Beautiful Woman, the publication has named Sofia Vergara and Madeleine Stowe to the Top 10 list.

The 39-year-old Colombian actress—who recently shined in her first guest-hosting stint on NBC’s Saturday Night Live—discussed her bombshell status in her SNL monologue.

Sofia Vergara Receives Second Straight SAG Award Nomination

“I always heard that immigrants had a really hard life when they came to America,” joked Vergara. “But when I showed up here everyone was so nice. The men bought me drinks and offered me a place to sleep. This country welcomed me with open arms… and pulled-down pants.”

But Vergara isn’t apologetic about her looks. “I’m not ashamed. It has opened doors,” the InStyle cover girl admitted to the magazine in April. And now that she’s about turn 40 in July, the Modern Family actress is both flattered and amused she’s still considered a head-turner. “I am on these lists for ‘best ass’ or ‘most beautiful’ with women like Mila Kunis, who’s, like, 20 years old,” she says with a laugh. “I have a son that age!”

Madeleine Stowe

Madeleine Stowe, who was lured back to Hollywood after a 12-year absence with a choice role on ABC’s instahit Revenge cracked the Top 10 as well.

“It’s fun being noticed on the streets,” says Stowe, whose perfect mix of beauty and talent led to ’90s box-office success in The Last of the Mohicans and Unlawful Entry. As for aging in Hollywood, the 53-year-old half-Costa Rican actress takes a rational approach: “My forehead moves! Some things, you have to let go.”

Meanwhile, several Latinas were featured in People’s “Beautiful at Every Age” feature.

Jessica Alba, 31
Turning 31 on April 28, Alba—who will soon be adding the title of “published author” to her resume— says she has finally reached a point where she’s finally comfortable in her own skin. “I’d been so afraid of criticism ever since I was young,” she told Elle. “Now I have no problem with it.”

Eva Longoria, 37
The former beauty queen and national co-chair for Obama’s re-election campaign says it takes more than good looks to look your best. “People think health only has to do with your physical being, but for me, it’s so much more,” the Desperate Housewives star told Health magazine. “I have a great diet and exercise routine. And I try to have a healthy outlook.”

Eva Mendes

Eva Mendes, 38
The Miami native—who will soon be starring as a neglectful mother inGirl in Progress—has no problem showing a little skin. Or even a lot of skin. Just check out her racy ads for Calvin Klein. “I’m not at all ashamed or frightened about showing my body,” she told the Spanish edition of Vogue. As for being labeled a sex symbol, Mendes says, “I like it when it doesn’t limit my career. It’s a part of my life, but on a secondary plane.”

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez, 42
Named People’s Most Beautiful Woman in 2011, the American Idol judge—who gets hearts racing in the steamy video for her latest single “Dance Again—says she values inner over outer beauty any day. “I feel lucky to be an attractive person,” she told People. “But I’ve always felt that real beauty always comes from your heart.”

Longoria “Ready for Love” on NBC…

Eva Longoria is ready, ready, ready for love… or at least to help others find it!

The 37-year-old Mexican-American actress and Desperate Housewives star is executive producing NBC’s Ready for Love, which the network has greenlighted for a launch next winter.

Eva Longoria

Hosted by Giuliana and Bill Rancic, the series—from Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment—will feature three successful and handsome men, handpicked by Longoria, who are committed to finding the right woman. They’ll try to accomplish that feat with the help of three matchmakers.

Prospective female candidates can apply using a new Facebook app, which also will be used to showcase the bachelors, with Facebook employed extensively during the entire run of the series.

“The show’s innovative format that uses online profiles and proven matchmakers will provide a better chance for our suitors to realize connections that will last long beyond the season finale,” NBC’s head of alternative programming Paul Telegdy said.

The three successful, family-oriented men looking for mates are Ben Patton, an international financier from Dallas; Tim Lopez, a member of the popular music group Plain White T’s from Santa Barbara, Calif., and Ernesto Arguello, an entrepreneur with a social vision from Miami. The three matchmakers will each select their team of 12 girls, four per guy. Once selected, each matchmaker team will live in a different house where they will receive personalized advice and mentoring. At the end of each week everyone will convene on stage in front of a live audience to watch the dates and get feedback from the matchmakers. The women who fail to make a connection with the men will be sent home.

In the finale, the three men will choose their final three women, who together, must decide if they’ll get engaged, married, or simply live happily ever after.

In recent months, Longoria has been stepping up her producing efforts post-Desperate Housewives, including joining ABC’s Devious Maids pilot as an executive producer.

Rubio Among the Nine Latinos on Time’s 100 Influentials List

He may be the junior United States Senator from Florida with only about 15 months in office… But, Marco Rubio is already being hailed as one of the most influential people in the world.

The 40-year-old Cuban American politician appears on Time magazine’s just released list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Senator Marco Rubio

“I knew there was something special about Marco Rubio when I first met him as a young Republican city commissioner. Bilingual and bicultural, he represents the best of the emerging second generation of Cuban immigrants,” writes former Florida governor Jeb Bush about the U.S. Senator who is being called a potential vice presidential pick for the Republican Party. “His ascendancy in politics has not surprised me or the people who know him. Rubio’s abiding faith in the promise of America is so compelling.”

But Senator Rubio isn’t the only Latino making Time’s ninth annual list. In all, nine Latinos made the cut, including three females.

Here’s a look at the rest of the world’s most influential Latinos, according to Time.

Louis C.K.

Louis C.K.
The 44-year-old Emmy and Grammy-winning Mexican-American comedian/actor is the star of FX’s comedy series Louie, which he also writes, directs and edits. Comedienne Joan Rivers writes of Louis C.K.:  “When he sent me the Louie episode he wanted me to do, I called him and said, ‘I like it, but I’d like to work with you on this.’ He was wonderful. There is absolutely no ego there — we reworked the script together and we improvised. It was such a meeting of the minds, such a joy.”

José Andrés
Last year, the 42-year-old Spanish chef and activist won the coveted James Beard Foundation‘s Outstanding Chef Award, the highest honor a chef in America can achieve. But José Andrés wasn’t honored for his gastronomic work; he was recognized for his philanthropic efforts. Fellow chef Anthony Bourdain writes about José Andrés: “That this gift of Spain to the U.S. is best known as a great chef with a portfolio of extraordinary restaurants in Washington, Los Angeles and Las Vegas is almost beside the point. He’s bigger and more important than that. No one kitchen — or 10 — can contain him. He is advocate, promoter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, artist. Keep up with him at your peril.”

Dulce Matuz

Dulce Matuz
The 27-year-old Mexican illegal immigrant and advocate is the president of the Arizona Dream Act Coalition, the group working to provide a path to citizenship to children of illegal immigrants. Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria writes about Dulce Matuz, who attended high school and college in Arizona: “An undocumented Latina confronted with legal barriers to pursuing her engineering dream, she chose to fight for the right to contribute to the country she has called home since she was young. As president of the Arizona Dream Act Coalition, Dulce promotes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who, like her, were brought to the U.S. before they were 16, attend college or serve in the military and are of good moral character. Dulce takes on powerful opponents with grace and conviction, saying, ‘We are Americans, and Americans don’t give up.’”

Eike Batista

Eike Batista
The 55-year-old Brazilian business tycoon, one of the richest people in the world, is the owner and president of Brazilian conglomerate EBX Group. Eike Batista made the list for his commitment to social inclusion initiatives in Rio de Janeiro. The city’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, credited Batista for bolstering Rio’s successful bid to host the 2016 Olympics and for donating to civic initiatives. “He might be Brazil’s richest man and the world’s seventh richest, bringing vital investment to our city from oil and mining, but his most valuable asset is his commitment to Rio’s legacy,” writes Paes.

Juan Manuel Santos

Juan Manuel Santos
The 60-year-old Colombian President may be recognized for helping his country in its bid to be a more developed world player, but Colombian pop singer Shakira believes he’s also a strong leader at home, especially after working directly with President Juan Manuel Santos on education and childhood development programs throughout the country. She writes, “A leader is someone who understands the people’s vision of a better tomorrow and is willing to guide them there. In Colombia, we dream of a future of progress, prosperity and peace. By focusing on education, I believe President Santos is on the right track to make that dream a reality.”

Maria das Graças Silva Foster

Maria das Graças Silva Foster
The Brazilian oil engineer was recently named the CEO of Petrobras, one of the world’s biggest suppliers of oil. She becomes its first female CEO and the first woman to run a major oil company. And, she’s known for being a tough, no-nonsense operator. “Foster, 58, spent her early childhood in a working-class favela on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro and collected recyclable cans and paper to help pay for school. A chemical engineer by training, she joined Petrobras and stayed for more than 30 years. Her tireless work habits earned her the nickname Caveirao, slang for the armored cars Brazilian police use to clear out slums,” writes Bryan Walsh, a senior editor at Time.

Dilma Rousseff
President
The 64-year-old Brazilian politician, considered one of the world’s most powerful women, is the first woman to hold the office of President in her native country. Argentina’s president Cristina Fernández De Kirchner writes of Rousseff, “She and I share many personal experiences: the drive that comes from our immigrant heritage, youthful activism and militancy and the challenges faced by women as they try to grow in a space dominated by men. And we agree that social inequality is the greatest problem facing our countries. Historically, what was “national” in Latin America used to run counter to the interests of the other nations in our region. Today, with the leadership of Dilma Rousseff, we see a Brazil convinced that its national interest is absolutely linked to the interests of its neighbors.”

Lionel-Messi-Barcelona-Football-Player

Lionel Messi
Earlier this year, the 24-year-old Argentinean soccer star, who plays for Futbol Club Barcelona, claimed his third consecutive FIFA Ballon d’Or, making him the first footballer to win the honor three years in a row. U.S. soccer star Mia Hamm writes of Lionel Messi: “He makes you hold your breath every time he touches the ball. It never seems to leave his feet. His love of the game and the pride he feels while playing for Barcelona and Argentina are palpable. Then you meet him, and you are reminded that he is only 5 ft. 7 in. (170 cm),” says Hamm. “He certainly has the potential to be remembered as the best player of all time, and I am so grateful for his approach to the game in this day and age. Clearly he plays because he loves it, and it shows every time he takes the field.

Longoria Starring in “The Baytown Disco”

Eva Longoria’s career prospects don’t look so desperate after the end of Desperate Housewives later this year…

Along with serving as an executive producer on ABC’s Devious Maids pilot and launching a new matchmaking show for NBC, the 37-year-old Mexican-American actress could be returning to the big screen in The Baytown Disco, an action thriller about three infamously ruthless Alabama brothers who find themselves on the wrong side of a wild cast of characters when they finally try to do a single good deed.

Eva Longoria

Longoria, who has previously starred in big screen films The Sentinel and Over Her Dead Body plays Celeste Martin, a woman who hires the brothers to get her godson back from her cruel ex-husband, played by Billy Bob Thornton.

Buyer screening will be taking place in Los Angeles and New York tonight. Here’s hoping someone picks up the distribution rights for the film.

Longoria to Executive Produce “Devious Maids” Pilot

Desperate Housewives may be coming to a close this season, but that doesn’t mean Eva Longoria’s relationship with the show’s creator Marc Cherry and ABC will end.

The 36-year-old Mexican-American actress, who will be stumping for President Barack Obama this election year, will serve as an executive producer on ABC/ABC Studios Devious Maids pilot, which like Desperate Housewives is a soap with four female leads.

Written by Cherry and based on a Mexican telenovela, Devious Maids follows four maids (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.

Longoria will executive produce alongside Cherry, Sabrina Wind, Paul Presburger, David Lonner, Larry Shuman, John Mass and Michael Garcia.

Along with dedicating time to her acting career, Longoria has been quite active behind the camera as a producer; setting several series projects over the past few years though her company Unbelievable Entertainment.

Devious Minds marks the first pilot she is executive producing.
