Longoria Slams Donald Trump During Spirited Democratic National Convention Speech

Eva Longoria is speaking out against Donald Trump

The Democratic National Convention kicked off on Monday in Philadelphia with a wide variety of speakers, including the 41-year-old Mexican American actress and former Desperate Housewives star.

Eva Longoria

Before introducing Senator Cory Booker, Longoria criticized Trump for his comments about Mexican immigrants, for mocking a New York Times reporter with a disability, and for making numerous sexist remarks throughout his campaign and career.

She subsequently referred to Hillary Clinton as “the most qualified presidential candidate ever,” and pointed out that even the convention alone was making history in terms of diversity.

Longoria also repeated a call to action that she has delivered on a number of occasions on behalf of Clinton: “She’s been fighting for us for decades and now it’s time we fight for her.”

Longoria joined several other celebrities at the DNC, which promised to be a star-studded four days.

Others in attendance included Demi Lovato, who talked about her own battle with mental illness, America Ferrera and Chloë Grace Moretz, all of whom campaigned for Clinton.

Here’s the full transcript of Longoria’s speech:

“Hello Philadelphia! Oh man, I am so honored to be here tonight, and I am proud to say I’m with her!

You know, like many of you, this election is very personal to me. I’m from a small town in South Texas and if you know your history, Texas used to be part of Mexico. Now, I’m 9th generation American. My family never crossed a border — the border crossed us. So when Donald Trump calls us criminals and rapists, he’s insulting American families. My father is not a criminal or rapist. In fact, he’s a United States veteran.

When Trump cruelly mocked a disabled reporter, he was also mocking my special needs sister Lisa, and many like her. When he said that a wife who works is a very dangerous thing, he not only insulted me — he insulted my mother, who worked as a special education teacher for 30 years, raised four children while being a wife!

You know, I believe in the candidate who believes in all of us, and that candidate is Hillary Clinton. Hillary has spent her whole life fighting for all Americans, from healthcare reform to equal pay for women to gun safety to protecting the economy. She is the most qualified presidential candidate ever! She’s been fighting for us for decades and now it’s time we fight for her.

Now I’m very proud to be part of that fight, and I’m very proud to be here to introduce my dear friend Cory Booker, but before I do, I want you to take a look at your convention, Philadelphia. A Latina from South Texas is introducing the first black senator from New Jersey on the week we’ll nominate our first woman candidate for president of the United States! Pretty great. So guess what, Donald? It turns out America is pretty great already. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Sen. Cory Booker.”

Longoria Developing Drama Project “Casino” NBC with Carlos Portugal

Eva Longoria’s gamble is paying off…

The 40-year-old Mexican American actress, producer and activist’s production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment has sold another project, the drama Casino, to NBC.

Eva Longoria

Written by East Los High co-creator Carlos Portugal, the project centers on the aftermath of a mogul’s mysterious death when his ambitious young widow and his illegitimate son have to join forces to save his famed casino, while circumstances surrounding his death come to light and threaten to take them both down.

Portugal executive produces with UnveliEVAble Entertainment’s Longoria and Ben Spector.

Universal Television, where the company is based, is the studio.

Casino stems out of efforts by the former Desperate Housewives star — who holds a master’s degree in Chicano studies — to bring Hispanic voices to television.

Born in Cuba, Portugal began his career at San Francisco PBS station KQED, where he produced the Emmy-winning documentary Frida Kahlo: Portrait of an Artist.

For the past three seasons, he has served as creator, showrunner, head writer and director of Hulu’s original drama series East Los High, directing 42 of the 48 produced episodes to date.

Before East Los High, Portugal worked on Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns and House of Payne for TBS.

UnbeliEVAble has midseason NBC comedy series Hot & Bothered, starring Longoria, as well as three other broadcast projects in development: genre drama Zone of Silence at NBC with Blumhouse Productions and writer Rashad Raisani, comedy Bonita & Mechelle at NBC with Will Packer Prods and writer Kriss Turner Towner and a comedy at ABC with veteran comedy writer Bobby Bowman.

Longoria to Produce Interracial Comedy Project for ABC

Eva Longoria is proving to be the hardest working Latina television producer…

The 40-year-old Mexican American actress/producer’s production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment has set a half-hour project at ABC with veteran comedy writer Bobby Bowman.

Eva Longoria

The untitled interracial family comedy centers on an ambitious and meticulous Latino chef who runs a cafe with his unpredictable white father-in-law.

Bowman will executive produce the project alongside UnbeliEVAble’s Longoria and Ben Spector.

Universal Television Studios, where the company is based, is the studio.

This marks the return to ABC for the former Desperate Housewives star Longoria and Family Tools creator Bowman.

Last year, ABC and ABC Studios developed a half-hour comedy as a starring vehicle for Longoria before she committed to NBC’s Hot & Bothered, formerly called Telenovela. That series, which UnbeliEVAble produces with Universal Television, debuts in midseason.

In addition to Hot & Bothered, UnbeliEVAble has Bonita & Mechelle in development at NBC, as well as projects at HBO Films and NBC International.

Eva Longoria is expanding her empire…

The 40-year-old Mexican American actress, producer, director, activist and businesswoman is set to launch a new line of clothing in the fall of 2016.

Eva Longoria

Longoria, best known for playing the loud-mouthed and flashy Gaby Solis on Desperate Housewivessays she prefers styles that are “classic and comfortable” rather than too trendy. And it’s this effortless chic look that she plans to bring to life with her new collection.

The actress, who has dabbled in fragrances and bedding before, is finally embracing her love of fashion after years of sewing dresses and costumes for herself and friends.

“Now it’s time to move into apparel,” Longoria told WWD“Before, I was just too busy.”

The yet-to-be-named line is licensed under Sunrise Brands, which is also working on Melissa McCarthy‘s Seven7 collection, due out this fall.

Chavira to Guest Star on ABC’s Drama Series “Castle”

Ricardo Chavira is getting political… At least on the small screen.

The 43-year-old Mexican American actor has landed a key role on ABC’s drama series Castle.

Ricardo Chavira

Chavira, best known for portraying Eva Longoria’s husband on Desperate Housewives, will play Alex Lopez, a popular congressman whose life may in danger.

Chavira will appear in Episode 18, when Detective Ryan — who it was established has been working side jobs — pulls some hours at his brother-in-law Frank’s private security company, which has been charged with protecting Congressman Lopez.

Teasing the Ryan-centric episode, showrunner David Amann told TVLine, “He gets involved in a situation where [he and Frank] are guarding somebody important and an incident occurs, and he is caught in the middle of it.”

Chavira’s post-Desperate Housewives credits include Burn Notice, Welcome to the Family and Bad Teacher.

Castle resumes its season, with Episode 17, on March 16.

Longoria to Star in NBC Comedy “Telenovela”

Eva Longoria is heading back to the spotlight on the small screen…

NBC has given a 13-episode order to the 39-year-old Mexican American actress’ single-camera comedy Telenovela.

Eva Longoria

It will mark Longoria’s first series starring role since Desperate Housewives.

Telenovela, set behind the scenes of a Spanish language telenovela, was guaranteed a 13-episode order if Longoria committed to star in the project and a pilot order if she didn’t.

Additionally, since Telenovela is set behind the scenes of a telenovela, NBC has had discussions with sister network Telemundo about doing 4-5-minute segments in Spanish that would be used to promote the NBC series to Spanish-speaking audiences.

Despite the straight-to-series 13-episode order, Telenovela will do a pilot.

NBC was one of two networks pursuing Longoria in a big way this development season. At ABC, there was a comedy from ABC Studios. It was fast-tracked as a script that will go to pilot with a 13-episode penalty for Longoria attached if she commits to star.

Longoria had been developing Telenovela through her Universal Television-based UnbeliEVAble at NBC for some time.

Written/executive produced by Cougar Town co-executive producers Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein, based on an idea by Longoria, it stars Longoria as the willful but popular diva Ana Maria, star of Latin America’s most beloved telenovela who strives to stay on top in a world where the drama on-camera is nothing compared to the drama off-camera.

Since the end of Desperate Housewives, Longoria had been focused on producing through her UnbeliEVAble banner.  She executive produces Lifetime’s Devious Maids and her company has sold nine projects this development season, including medical drama Critical at NBC and Texas political/family drama Pair of Aces at ABC.
