“The Truth” About Longoria…

Desperate Housewives may be coming to an end this season… But that doesn’t mean an end to Eva Longoria acting career.

The 36-year-old Mexican-American actress has signed on to star in The Truth, an action thriller from writer/director Damian Lee. She’ll appear opposite 55-year-old Cuban-American actor Andy Garcia and Forest Whitaker.

Garcia will play a former CIA operative-turned-political talk show host hired by a corporate whistleblower, played by Longoria, to expose her company’s cover-up of a South American village massacre.

This isn’t Longoria’s first foray into action… She previously starred opposite Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland in The Sentinel, and opposite Christian Bale in Harsh Times.

The Truth is set to start shooting in Ontario, Canada and the Caribbean.

“Desperate Housewives” Creator Developing Devious Latina Maid Drama…

Move over, Dora! A new crop of Latina housekeepers could be taking over our televisions in the near future…

Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry is currently developing an hour-long drama for ABC that would center around four Latina maids working in Beverly Hills.

Entitled “Devious Maids,” the series is an adaptation of Televisa’s popular telenovela “Ellas son… la alegría del hogar” (“The Disorderly Maids of the Neighborhood”), which centers around five housekeepers who work in a quiet condominium where nothing much ever happens until the residents became divided over the building of a new swimming pool during a severe water shortage. One of tenants then mysteriously disappears, a suitcase full of money appears—along with a dead body at the bottom of the half-finished pool—and the find themselves smack dab in the middle of it all.

ABC has given a script order for the project, which Cherry will write and executive produce.

Longoria: TV’s Highest-Paid Actress

There’s nothing “desperate” about Eva Longoria’s earning potential. The Mexican-American actress has been named TV’s highest-paid actress by Forbes magazine.

The “Desperate Housewives” starlet—the only Latina on the list—tied with “30 Rock” star Tina Fey for the top spot, with each actress netting $13 million between May 2010 and May 2011.  It’s an improvement for Longoria, who ranked No. 4 on Forbes’ Prime Time’s 10 Top-Earning Women list last year, which included non-acting celebrities.

Like her co-stars on ABC’s long-running series “Desperate Housewives,” the 36-year-old Longoria earns $400,000 per episode for portraying Gabrielle Solis. So why is Longoria the highest-paid “housewife” on Wisteria Lane? Well, she’s got some pretty lucrative endorsement deals with L’Oreal and LG, which help her make some serious bank.

But Longoria doesn’t keep all her earnings to herself. She donates much of her personal income to charity. She was recently named a Lifetime Impact Honoree for her philanthropic work at Variety’s Power of Women luncheon in Beverly Hills.

Desperate Times For Ferrer

Miguel Ferrer is desperately seeking Susan… Well, sort of!

The 56-year-old Puerto Rican-American actor has landed a recurring role on the final season of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives.”

During this swan-song season of the hit show, Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher) is headed back to college and Ferrer will play her professor. His character, Andre Zeller, is apparently “a renowned and temperamental contemporary artist who is teaching a course at the local college.”

And you can expect some serious drama to unfold between Ferrer and Hatcher’s characters!

He clashes with Susan when she goes back to art school,” an insider tells TV Line.

No word on when Ferrer, a regular on “Crossing Jordan” and currently appearing on Lifetime’s “The Protector,” will make his first appearance on the show.

“Desperate Housewives” premieres on Sunday, Septemer 25.
