Laz Alonso Signs with Independent Artist Group for Representation

Independent Artist Group has signed the 49-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor for representation.

Laz AlonsoAlonso is best known for starring on the hit Amazon series The Boys, centering on vigilantes’ efforts to take down a group of corrupt superheroes, which returns for its fourth season this year.

On the show developed by Eric Kripke from the same-name comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Alonso portrays the vigilante Mother’s Milk, sharing the screen with Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty and more.

He’s also currently voicing the title character on Netflix’s animated series My Dad the Bounty Hunter,.

Alonso’s past television credits include A&E’s cult hit Breakout Kings, Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost, TNT’s Southland, NBC’s Deception and The Mysteries Of Laura and Spectrum Originals’ L.A.’s Finest.

On the film side, he’s been seen portraying the villain Fenix opposite Vin Diesel in multiple Fast & Furious titles, also appearing in James Cameron’s Avatar. Other notable big screen credits include the Jason Statham action thriller Wrath of Man, Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit, Spike Lee’s Miracle at St. AnnaStomp the YardJarhead and Constantine.

Additionally, Alonso has executive-produced titles including Alan JacobsTIFF drama Down for Life, in which he starred alongside Danny Glover, and the indie thriller Detained co-starring Abbie Cornish. He heads up the production company Abundancia Pictures as CEO and continues to be represented by Authentic Talent and Literary Management and attorney Rick Genow at Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.

Vanessa Rubio Upped to Series Regular on Netflix’s “Cobra Kai”

The 37-year-old Colombian-American actress has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming fourth season of Netflix’s Cobra Kai.

Starring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, the Karate Kid sequel series is one of the streamer’s most popular shows.

Rubio has portrayed Carmen Diaz since Season 1, appearing in 16 episodes. Carmen is Miguel’s (Xolo Maridueña) hard-working mother who would do anything to protect her son.

The third season recently premiered in January, hitting No. 1 worldwide on Netflix. The first three seasons of Cobra Kai are now streaming on Netflix with the fourth season production underway in Atlanta.

Cobra Kai takes place over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament with the continuation of the inescapable conflict between Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (Zabka).

Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg via their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment. Will Smith, James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett executive produce for Westbrook Entertainment along with Susan Ekins in association with Sony Pictures Television. Macchio and Zabka also serve as executive producers.

In addition to Cobra Kai, Rubio recently appeared in the second season of Netflix’s Bonding.

Her other previous TV credits include Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings and Master of None, WGN’s Gone and NBC’s Deception.

Her film work includes How To Be Single, The Hudson Tribes and The Girl is in Trouble.

Vanessa Rubio to Star in Netflix’s “Dolly Parton’s Heartstings: JJ Sneed”

The Colombian actress has been cast in Dolly Parton’s Heartstings: JJ Sneed, an episode of Netflix’s upcoming eight-episode anthology series that showcases the stories, memories and inspirations behind Parton’s most beloved songs.

Colin O’Donoghue, Willa Fitzgerald, David Denman and Mac Davis round out the cast, joining Parton in the series, which launches in 2019. Each episode is a standalone story with a different cast.

In this JJ Sneed episode, written by Jim Strain and directed by Terry McDonough, O’Donoghue plays JJ Sneed, Fitzgerald portrays Maddie, Denman is Deke Fletcher, Davis will play Reverend Riggs and Rubio is Cimmaron.

Set in the 1880s, the episode centers around a feisty young woman trapped in a mundane existence who dreams of more, until a seductive outlaw pulls her into the adventure of a lifetime.

Scored by new and classic Parton music, each stand-alone episode in Dolly Parton’s Heartstringswill begin with an introduction by Parton talking/singing to camera (as herself) about the meaning behind each song. Each episode will feature a different cast, and Parton will star/guest star in some. They’ll vary in tone, from love stories and inspirational tales to family dramas, Westerns, and revenge comedies.

The 43-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor has landed a role in Amazon’s straight-to-series drama The Boys.

The project comes from from Supernatural creator and Timeless co-creator Eric KripkePreacher‘s Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen and Sony Pictures Television.

Written by Kripke based on the comic book by Garth Ennis & Darick Robertson and directed by Goldberg & Rogen, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame. It revolves around a group of vigilantes known informally as “the boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.

Alonso will play Mother’s Milk. Second in command of the Boys, he’s a great detective, highly intelligent and observant and an intuitive investigator.

Alonso, whose television series credits include NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura IDeception, as well as A&E’s Breakout Kings, appeared in Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit and will next be seen opposite Paula Patton and Omar Epps in the Lionsgate feature Traffik.

Nolasco to Star in ABC’s FBI Crime Drama Pilot “Deception”

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American actor has been cast as a series regular opposite Lenora Crichlow and Jack Cutmore-Scott in ABC pilot Deception, an FBI crime drama procedural.

In Deception, when his career is ruined by scandal, superstar magician Cameron Black (Cutmore-Scott) has only one place to turn to practice his art of deception, illusion, and influence — the FBI. He’ll become the world’s first consulting illusionist, helping the government solve crimes that defy explanation, and trap criminals and spies by using deception.

Nolasco will play Mike Alvarez, a classic FBI agent and, secretly, a huge fan of magic.

Deception hails from Chuck co-creator Chris Fedak and the Blindspot team of creator Martin Gero and magician David Kwong, Warner Bros. Television and Greg Berlanti’s studio-based Berlanti Productions. The pilot was written by Chris Fedak and will be directed by David Nutter.

Nolasco is currently reprising his role of Fernando Sucre in Fox’s Prison Break event series. His other television credits include appearances on George Lopez, Mind of Mencia, CSI: Miami, Gang Related and Telenovela.

Good Lands Recurring Role on NBC’s Upcoming Comedy Series “Mr. Robinson”

The 33-year-old part-Puerto Rican actress has signed on for a major recurring role on NBC’s upcoming comedy series Mr. Robinson.

The six-episode sitcom stars The Office alum Craig Robinson as a journeyman musician who gets a job as a music teacher at a middle school.

Good, who guest-starred on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, will play Victoria Wavers, a successful former Wall Street trader who left to pursue her true calling as a high school English teacher.

She replaces Lenora Crichlow, who played the part in the project’s new pilot under executive producers/showrunners Mark Cullen and Rob Cullen.

Good will have a recurring status on Mr. Robinson, making her available for pilot season.

She’s already been approached under her talent holding deal with NBC, which reunites her with the network where she toplined drama series Deception.

Ortiz to Star in the Reverse Gay-Bullying Drama “Love Is All You Need?”

The 43-year-old alf-Puerto Rican actress and Devious Maids star has joined the cast of the reverse gay-bullying drama Love Is All You Need?

The film is set in a world where being gay is the norm and heterosexual persons are bullied. The feature is based on the provocative short film of the same name that scored over 45 million hits on YouTube.

Ortiz joins a cast that includes Suburgatory’s Jeremy Sisto, Deception‘s Katherine La Nasa, Trophy Wife‘s Jenica Bergere, and Drumline‘s Leonard Roberts, as well as Briana Evigan, Emily Osment and Kyla Kennedy.

Director Kim Rocco Shields has also tapped Pretty Little LiarsTyler Blackburn for a lead role playing Ryan, the journalist who strikes up a forbidden romance with Evigan’s star quarterback.

Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles.

Good to Guest Star on NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU”

The 33-year-old part-Puerto Rican actress has signed on to guest star on Law & Order: SVU.

Good and The Walking Dead actor Chad Coleman will appear on NBC‘s long-running police procedural in the November 19 episode, “Spousal Privilege,” playing a couple in an abusive relationship.

Coleman will play a former sports-star-turned-reporter accused of assaulting his girlfriend (Good). Despite photographic evidence of the abuse, the case becomes complicated when the couple tries to keep the charges under the radar.

“Domestic violence, with a push from [star] Mariska Hargitay‘s No More campaign, has recently sparked a long-needed national dialogue,” said executive producer Warren Leight. ” ‘Spousal Privilege’ explores the personal and legal complexities of this intractable problem. We are thrilled that Chad and Meagan are joining us to take on this challenging episode.”

It’s a return to NBC for Good, who starred in the short-lived series Deception.

The 39-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor has signed on to co-star opposite Debra Messing in NBC’s drama pilot The Mysteries of Laura.

Directed by McG, from a script written by Jeff Rake, the project is based on the popular Spanish series Los misterios de Laura.

The telelvision project centers on the life and relationships of Laura Diamond (Messing), a female homicide detective who can handle murderous criminals — but not her hell-raising twin children.

Alonso will portray Billy, Laura’s partner in crime.

Alonso’s casting stems from a talent holding deal the network inked with him following his stint on last season’s short-lived drama Deception.

The Mysteries of Laura is being produced by Warner Bros. Television, Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.

Alonso’s previous credits include Breakout Kings and Avatar.
