Ana de Armas to Star in the Spy Drama “Wasp Network”

The 30-year-old Cuban actress will co-star in Olivier Assayas Wasp Network, the spy drama based on Fernando Morais’ book The Last Soldiers of the Cold War

de Armas joins previously announced cast members Edgar RamírezPenélope CruzPedro Pascal,Wagner Moura and Gael García Bernal.

The film, which will go before cameras in Havana at the end of this month, tells the true story of Cuban spies in the American territory during the 1990s, revealing the tentacles of a Florida-based terrorist network with ramifications in Central America and with the consent of the U.S. government.

de Armas’ credits include Blade Runner 2049War Dogsand Hands of Stone.

Lionsgate & MRC to Release Ana de Armas’ Murder Mystery “Knives Out” in November 2019

Lionsgate will partner with MRC to distribute worldwide Knives Out, the contemporary murder mystery starring the 30-year-old Cuban actress.

Looper and Star Wars: The Last Jedi helmer Rian Johnson wrote and is directing the film, which stars Daniel Craig as a detective trying to solve a murder.

In addition to de Armas and Craig, the killer ensemble cast includes Chris EvansMichael ShannonLakeith StanfieldJamie Lee CurtisToni ColletteChristopher PlummerKatherine Langford and Don Johnson.

Lionsgate has scheduled the film for nationwide release on November 27, 2019 for the Thanksgiving holiday corridor.

The film became possible when director Danny Boyleexited James Bond 25. While that film regrouped — Cary Fukunagais directing it — Craig suddenly had an open slot, and Johnson and his producing partner Ram Bergman took full advantage with an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery that Johnson wrote and was able to squeeze in before he and Bergman drill down on a new trilogy in the Star Wars universe.

de Armas previous film credits include Blade Runner 2049, War Dogs and Hands of Stone.

Ortiz to Star in Legendary’s “Kong: Skull Island”

John Ortiz is going bananas for his latest role…

The 47-year-old Puerto Rican actor, director and producer has joined the cast of Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island.

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the story is about a man (Tom Hiddleston) who travels to the mythical island and home of the king of the apes. A team of explorers ventures inside what they find to be a treacherous island. The story is said to honor the King Kong lore but in a different time period.

Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman also star in the project, which is expected to go before the cameras this fall.

No word on the character Ortiz will play.

Ortiz co-starred on Rake and just wrapped a role in Zach Braff’s remake of Going In Style. 

He’ll next be seen in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs and Disney’s The Finest Hours.

Ortiz Lands Roles in “Going In Style” and “A Dog’s Purpose”

John Ortiz is ending the year with a bang, landing back-to-back film roles…

The 47-year-old Puerto Rican actor, director and producer will first star in New Line Cinema’s upcoming comedy Going In Style, directed by Zach Braff from a script by Theodore Melfi.

Ortiz will portray “Jesus,” a Mensa smart criminal who is socially responsible and deplores society’s treatment of the elderly.

He joins Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin, along with Ann-Margret, Peter Serafinowicz, Joey King and Christopher Lloyd, in the remake of the 1979 classic.

Ortiz will then follow up that film with the live action DreamWorks feature A Dog’s Purpose, based on the novel by W. Bruce Cameron.

The film is a series of vignettes directed by Lasse Hallstrom and starring Bradley Cooper (as the voice of the dog), along with Dennis Quaid, Britt Robertson, KJ Apa, Juliet Rylance and Peggy Lipton.

Ortiz stars in his segment as “Carlos”, a stern, all business cop who trains his dog to assist him in solving crime.

Ortiz can next be seen in Disney’s The Finest Hours, starring Chris Pine and Casey Affleck, and directed by Craig Gillespie, as well as Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs.

He recently wrapped the indie A Woman, A Part starring opposite Maggie Siff and directed by Elisabeth Subrin.

Ortiz to Star in Universal Pictures’ Steve Jobs Biopic

John Ortiz has landed a new Job

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican actor, director and producer has been cast in Universal PicturesSteve Jobs film, which kicked off production last month in San Francisco.

Ortiz, who stars in Michael Mann’s Blackhat, will play Joel Pforzheimer, the GQ magazine journalist who is seen interviewing Jobs (Michael Fassbender) throughout the Aaron Sorkin-penned film.

Danny Boyle is directing and Uni, which picked up the project from Sony Pictures, said it plans to release the film on October 9.

Ortiz, who recurs on HBO’s comedy Togetherness and just wrapped Disney’s The Finest Hours opposite Chris Pine.

Dawson In Negotiations to Star in the Horror Franchise “Incarnate”

Rosario Dawson may soon be starring in an incarnate film…

The 34-year-old Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban American actress and newest member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is in talks to star opposite Aaron Eckhart in Incarnate, a potential new horror franchise from Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse Productions.

The microbugdet film, which tells of “an unconventional exorcist with the ability to tap into the subconscious of the possessed who meets his match when a 9-year-old boy is possessed by a demon from his past,” will be directed by Brad Peyton.

Information on Dawson’s character is being tightly guarded.

A November start in Los Angeles is being planned on the picture, which was written by Ronnie Christensen.

Dawson last starred opposite James McAvoy in Danny Boyle’s Trance and recently wrapped shooting on Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

 

Dawson In Talks to Star in “The Ever After”

The 34-year-old Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban American actress is in talks to star in The Ever After, which is described as a hard examination of a marriage.

The film, to be directed by Mark Webber, will star Oscar winner Melissa Leo with Warm BodiesTeresa Palmer and Webber in the lead roles.

Along with Dawson, part-Mexican American rapper/actor Kid Cudi, Phoebe Tonkin and Hart of Dixie’s Jaime King are also in talks to join the film.

Webber’s sophomore directorial effort The End of Love was nominated for a Sundance Film Festival 2012 Grand Jury Prize.

Dawson most recently starred in Danny Boyle’s Trance. She’ll next appear in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Chavez.

Fresnadillo to Direct Shia LaBeouf in “Villain”

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has found his villain… And his name is Shia LaBeouf.

Start Motion Pictures has named the 45-year-old Spanish filmmaker as the director of Villain, a psychological thriller that will star the Transformers actor.

Villain follows two brothers who mysteriously re-connect in an unforgiving wilderness. The role of the other brother has yet been named.

Fresnadillo’s credits including helming the Intacto and 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to Danny Boyle‘s 28 Days Later.

His film Esposados was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 1996.

Dawson In Talks to Star in Chris Rock’s Latest Feature

The 33-year-old Puerto Rican & Afro-Cuban American actress is in talks to star opposite Rock in the untitled comedy that Rock wrote and will direct for Scott Rudin and Barry Diller.

The edgy showbiz-themed comedy, which features a hint of romance, will shoot in New York this June.

It’s the latest project for Dawson, who recently signed on to star in Queen of the Night.

Along with appearing in Danny Boyle’s Trance, which opened recently, is set to reprise her role in Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, appearing opposite Jessica Alba, later this year.

She’s also set to appear in Diego Luna’s Chavez later this year.

Dawson Prominently Featured in Latest “Trance” Trailer

Rosario Dawson has James McAvoy following her voice in the latest trailer for Danny Boyle’s psychological thriller Trance.

The 33-year-old Puerto Rican & Afro-Cuban American actress takes the lead in this latest clip, with her dialogue used as the narration for the teaser video.

Trance, which also stars Vincent Cassel, tells the story of a fine art auctioneer mixed up with a criminal gang who joins forces with a hypnotherapist (Dawson) to recover a lost painting.

“It was exciting because it’s a journey, it’s a puzzle… It’s a number of things; it definitely wasn’t the ‘sure-fire hit’ where everyone’s going to get it, where every aspect of it will connect – because even nudity alone can throw people,” says Dawson of working on the film.

The movie premiered in London on Tuesday and will be released in the United Kingdom via Pathé on March 27.

Fox Searchlight will release Trance in theaters in the United States on April 5.
