Varela to Star in the Ice Age Epic “The Solutrean”

It’s back to the “ice age, baby” for Leonor Varela

The 43-year-old Chilean actress has landed a supporting role in Studio 8’s ice age epic The Solutrean from director Albert Hughes.

Inspired by the controversial “solutrean hypothesis,” which advances the idea that Stone Age Europeans might have been among the earliest settlers of the Americas, the coming-of-age tale of survival is set 20,000 years ago.

It follows a young boy injured during a hunting expedition and left for dead who must use his skills, intuition and force of will to make it back home. Along the way, he befriends a wolf, who becomes his close companion.

Varela is playing the shaman of the boy’s tribe; described as wise, powerful and compelling, she performs religious rituals of protection, healing and thanksgiving.

Varela most recently appeared in Paramount PicturesCaptive, opposite Kate Mara, David Oyelowo and Michael Kenneth Williams.

Her other credits include Ride opposite Helen Hunt and Luke Wilson, a seven-episode arc on TNT’s Dallasand Odd Thomas with Anton Yelchin and Willem Dafoe. She also appeared in Blade II and The Tailor of Panama.

Celaya to Star in ABC’s Drama Pilot “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”

The 33-year-old Mexican American actress has been cast in ABC drama pilot The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez.

From writer Charise Castro Smith and producers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, the project is described as a sexy revenge drama with a supernatural twist. Hailed as “MacBeth with a Cuban twist,” it centers on Eva Sofia Valdez, an immigrant who rose from rags to riches and is a celebrated Miami entrepreneur and a champion for immigrant rights. But her success is fueled by an insatiable ambition that could destroy her family, a vendetta against the lover who betrayed her, and ghosts from the past who threaten to reveal the dark sacrifices Eva Sofia made to attain the American Dream.

Celaya will play Dominique, a “shadow woman” who mysteriously enters Eva Sofia’s life and although she is ancient, she takes the shape of a younger woman who will cut you or be with you – whatever it takes to lure another desperate soul into her collection.

Celaya most recently starred on the television series Constantine. Her other credits include appearances on Dallas and Burn Notice.

Jaramillo to Star in USA Network’s Pilot “The Wilding”

The Mexican actor, who will star opposite Jennifer Lopez in NBC’s drama series Shades of Blue, has booked a series regular role in The Wilding, USA Network’s two-hour backdoor pilot from Universal Cable Productions and executive producers Tim Kring and writer-creator Silka Luisa.

In The Wilding, disparate people across North Carolina realize they’re connected by the same haunting. Their only hope is a fractured family battling the repercussions of a teenage pregnancy, addiction and the discovery that they belong to a subset of people with supersensory abilities called Wildings.

Jaramillo will portray Carlos, Margaret’s (Jordana Spiro) husband. As a recovered drug addict and popular teacher, he connects with his troubled step-daughter Kayla in a way that others can’t.

Best known for his performance in Oliver Stone’s drug-themed film Savages, his previous television credits include Dallas, CSI: Cyber, Gang Related, The Mentalist and Burn Notice.

di Pace Lands Recurring Role on Netflix’s “Fuller House”

Juan Pablo di Pace is expecting a full(er) house

The 36-year-old Argentine actor, singer and director has booked a recurring role on Netflix’s Fuller House, the sequel to the popular television sitcom Full House.

The reboot will follow D.J. Tanner (Candace Cameron-Bure), a recent widow who is raising her children with the help of sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend and fellow mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber).

Di Pace, who starred as Jesus Christ in NBC‘s miniseries A.D. The Bible Continues, will play Fernando, Kimmy’s (Barber) passionate ex-husband.

John Stamos, the erstwhile Uncle Jesse, is producing Fuller House, which will star Full House regulars Cameron-Bure, Lori Loughlin, Sweetin and Barber, with Stamos and Dave Coulier appearing in guest spots.

Di Pace previously appeared on another series reboot, TNT’s Dallas.

His other credits include appearances on the NBC series Camp and the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Mamma Mia!

Fuller House is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2016.

Brewster to Star in ABC’s Anthology Crime Drama Series “Secrets & Lies”

The 35-year-old Brazilian-Panamanian actress has joined the cast of ABC’s anthology crime drama series Secrets & Lies for its upcoming second season.

Season 2 picks up with detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) investigating a new crime, the murder of Eric Warner’s (Michael Ealy) wife.

Brewster will play Kate Warner, an accomplished attorney who runs the compliance department for the Warner family-owned private equity firm.

Terry O’Quinn also stars.

Secrets & Lies, from ABC Studios, was developed for American television by Barbie Kligman based on the original Australian series.

Brewster, who had a recurring role in the NBC TV series Chuck, last appeared on television on TNT’s Dallas.

del Castillo to Portray Mexico’s First Lady in Netflix’s New Original Series “Ingobernable”

The 42-year-old Mexican actress and telenovela star will star as Mexico’s First Lady in Netflix’s new original series Ingobernable.

del Castillo will portray Irene Urzua, the wife of Mexico’s president. A woman with a strong personality, conviction and clear ideas, Urzua is capable of “creating a president, leaving a president and killing a president.”

The 20-episode series, produced by Argos and directed by Jose Luis Garcia Agraz and Pedro Pablo “Pitipol” Ibarra, will begin shooting in Mexico early next year and will be available exclusively on Netflix later in 2016.

del Castillo played Teresa Mendoza in the USA pilot Queen of the South, an English-language adaptation of Telemundo’s blockbuster 2011 telenovela La Reina del Sur. Alice Braga took over the role of Teresa when the pilot was picked up to series. del Castillo’s other television credits include Weeds, Killer Women and Dallas.

Ingobernable comes on the heels of Club de Cuervos, Netflix’s first Spanish-language series set to premiere August 7, and it’s a clear signal that the streaming service is making regional footprints a steady part of its global expansion.

Di Pace to Star in NBC’s Event Series “A.D.,” A Follow-Up to “The Bible” Miniseries

The 35-year-old Argentine actor, singer and director has been cast in Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s 12-episode NBC event series A.D., which is set to premiere on Easter Sunday, April 5.

A follow-up to Burnett and Downey’s highly rated The Bible miniseries, A.D. chronicles the aftermath of Jesus’ crucifixion as the tiny band of followers fight for survival while they try to spread the Word to the world. But they have hope and soon they have power: the amazing miracle of the resurrection, and the arrival of the Holy Spirit upon them.

Di Pace, who most recently starred on TNT’s Dallas, will portray Jesus, the charismatic leader who appears only when dying on the cross, or in resurrected divine form.

Di Pace’s other credits include the films Mamma Mia! and Survival Island, as well as television appearances on Camp.

Saban Films Acquires U.S. Rights to Brewster’s “American Heist”

Jordana Brewster’s latest film will most certainly make its way to American theaters…

Saban Films has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to American Heist, the bank robbery actioner that stars the 34-year-old Panamanian actress and Dallas star.

American Heist centers on two brothers, both with troubled pasts, who find themselves in the middle of one last bank job.

In addition to Brewster, who portrays Emily in the film, American Heist also stars Hayden Christensen, Adrien Brody, Tory Kittles and Aliaune “Akon” Thiam.

The deal followed its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Sandoval Upped to Series Regular on NBC’s “Bad Judge”

Expect more bad judgment from Miguel Sandoval.

The 62-year-old Latino actor has been upped to series regular on NBC’s single-camera comedy Bad Judge.

Sandoval, who guest starred in the pilot, plays Judge Connors, her boss on the San Bernardino County bench, who gives her extra work because he believes in her as a judge.

Sandoval previously starred in the NBC/CBS series Medium, and has appeared on TNT’s Dallas, HBO’s Entourage and TNT’s The Closer.

Sandoval’s television credits include appearances on HBO’s Entourage and TNT’s The Closer.

He’ll next appear in an arc on TNT’s Dallas.
