Gravitas Ventures Acquires Miguel Angel Garcia-Starrer “Die Like A Man”

Miguel Angel Garcia’s latest project is going global… 

Gravitas Ventures has acquired writer-director Eric Nazarian’s Los Angeles-set crime thriller Die Like A Man, starring the Latino actor, for U.S., Canada and international rights.

Miguel Angel GarciaThe coming-of-age journey follows Freddy, a 17-year-old Westsider who is given a gun and asked to prove himself to a veteran gangster he idolizes. Garcia stars as the conflicted teen, Cory Hardrict as ruthless gang father figure Solo, and Mariel Molino as love interest Luna.

Nazarian called Die Like A Man “an honest tale about the doomed codes of machismo culture that has spiraled into worsening gun violence and inner city warfare. Freddy’s journey explores the destructive power of internalized rage and the road towards atonement.”

The film was shot entirely in Los Angeles’ inner city communities and included teaming up with famed advocate Father Gregory Boyle’s Homeboy Industries.

Nazarian’s film was inspired by his upbringing as an immigrant in LA’s working class neighborhoods.

The film was written and directed by Nazarian and produced by Mucho Mas Media, Voyager Pictures, Confluential Films, 222 Pictures and Boycott Entertainment and Showdown Productions.

Garcia’s previous credits include The Long Game.

Meagan Good to Star in Tyler Perry’s Amazon Film “Divorce in the Black”

Meagan Good is headed for divorce… On film, that is!

The 41-year-old part-Puerto Rican actress is set to star in Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black, his second film under a four-picture deal with Amazon.

Meagan Good, HarlemIn addition to Good, who currently stars on Amazon’s Harlem, Cory Hardrict, Joseph Lee Anderson, Taylor Polidore, Shannon Wallace, Richard Lawson and Debbi Morgan will also star.

Perry will direct and produce the film from his script.

The film follows Ava, a young bank professional who is devastated when her husband Dallas abandons a marriage she is determined to fight for. But then fate intervenes, revealing Dallas’ wicked deeds that have trashed their marriage, and once upon a time sabotaged Ava’s destiny to be loved by her true soul mate. Hardrict will reportedly be playing Dallas, though no further character details have been disclosed.

Most recently reprising her DC role of Super Hero Darla in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Good is also known for turns in films like Day ShiftThink Like a Man and its sequel, Don Jon and Stomp the Yard, among others. The actress has also been seen on shows like Prodigal Son, Star and Californication, to name just a few.

Salvador Chacon Lands Recurring Role on Showtime’s “The Chi”

Salvador Chacon is Windy City bound…

The 35-year-old Mexican actor has landed a recurring role on the Lena Waithe-created Showtime drama series The Chi.

Chacon, Cory Hardrict and Joel Steingoldare set for multi-episode arcs in season three. 

The series is currently in production in Chicago and will return to the network in 2020.

Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios,The Chiis a timely coming-of-age story about a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.

Chacon will play Tomas Gutierrez, a nurse who works alongside Jada (Yolonda Ross) whose view of his native Chicago and the people in it is influenced by his cultural heritage.

J.J. Soria to Star in Crackle’s Drama Series “The Oath”

J.J. Soria is taking a special oath…

The 30-year-old Mexican American actor has landed a key role opposite Ryan Kwanten and Sean Bean in Crackle’s upcoming drama series The Oath, executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television.

Written and created by former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Halpin (Hawaii Five-0, Secrets & Lies), the 10-episode original series explores a world of gangs made up of those sworn to protect and defend and sheds light on corrupt and secret societies. They are nearly impossible to join — only a select few make the cut – but once inside, members will do what they must to protect one another from enemies on the outside and from within their own ranks.

Soria will play Officer Pete Ramos, partner and friend of Officer Steve Hammond (Kwanten), and second-in-command of the Ravens cop gang. Ramos is streetwise with a nervous energy and a family man who is driven by the need to prove himself worthy of his wife, who comes from wealth and privilege.

In addition to Kwanten and Bean, Soria joins previously announced cast members Cory Hardrict, Katrina Law and Arlen Escarpeta.

The premiere episode will be directed by Jeff T. Thomas.

Soria has a recurring role on TNT’s Animal Kingdom and Freeform’s The Fosters. His film credits include a starring role in Blumhouse/Universal’s The Purge: Election Year.
