Shakira Ties Jennifer Lopez for Most No. 1s by a Female Act in a Single Year with “Copa Vacia”

It’s another series of chart achievements for Shakira.

The 46-year-old Colombian singer and songwriter leads Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart yet again as “Copa Vacía,” her collaborative single with Manuel Turizo, rises 3-1 on the October 28-dated list.

ShakiraThe new leader marks two successes in her chart career: Shakira extends her record for the most chart-toppers by a woman, with 20, and ties Jennifer Lopez’s No. 1 record by a female act in a single year in the history of the survey, both with four leaders.

Shakira also now has the most No. 1s on Latin Airplay in 2023 among all artists.

As radio airplay continues to grow for “Copa Vacía,” it ascends to the summit with 10.5 million audience impressions earned in the U.S. in the week ending October 19, according to Luminate, an 18% gain from the week prior.

The song sends Venesti’s “Umaye” to No. 7 after one week in charge (down 21%, to 7.5 million).

Here’s the recap of all the songs by a female artist that has reached the top of the chart thus far.

Peak Date, Title, Artist, Weeks at No. 1
Dec. 2, 2022, “Monotonia,” with Ozuna, six
Feb. 4, “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” with Bizarrap, four

Among all acts, Ozuna and J Balvin tie for the most overall, with nine No. 1s in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Turizo, meanwhile, banks his eighth champ with a chart-topping rate that has soared this decade. After scoring two No. 1s between 2018-19, the Colombian singer has logged six leaders since 2020, including “La Bachata,” his first ruler as a soloist, unaccompanied by any other act.

Plus, Turizo’s 2023 chart career has proven to be fruitful, scoring three No. 1s: “El Merengue” with Marshmello (June 10), “Vagabundo” with Sebastián Yatra and Beele (Sept. 2) and now “Copa Vacía” with Shakira. The latter also becomes his first and only No. 1 with a woman.

Beyond its coronation on Latin Airplay, “Copa Vacía” also lifts 2-1 on Latin Rhythm Airplay, while it holds solid at No. 1 on Latin Pop Airplay for a seventh week, the third-most in 2023.

Shakira Releases Music Video for Manuel Turizo-Collaboration “Copa Vacia”

Shakira is hitting the high seas…

The 46-year-old Colombian superstar has joined voices with Manuel Turizo for the first time for the Spanish-language single “Copa Vacía,” an infectious pop-reggaeton song with heartfelt lyrics about unrequited love, as well as the track’s music video.

ShakiraIn “Copa Vacía,” Shakira and Turizo have a back-and-forth discussion about not giving enough love and affection to the other person.

“You’re always busy with so many businesses/ […] Drop your phone, use your hands with me/I know you’re hot but I’m hotter,” Shakira sings in her verse.

“As if you don’t feel anything/ Now you see me differently/ I’m swimming against the current/ I’m looking in the streets who can fill this emptiness I feel,” Turizo chants back.

In the chorus, they unite to sing: “I’ve been thirsty for you for a while, I don’t know why/I’m left wanting more, wanting to drink from an empty cup.”

Just 10 days ahead of the release (on June 19), Shakira and Turizo assured fans, “We made a movie,” sharing a poster of Shakira taking the role of a mermaid and Turizo as the prince. Evidently, they did.

The music video, co-directed by Shakira and Jaume de Laiguana, features Shakira as a pink-haired mermaid who’s abandoned and forgotten on the rocks as Turizo comes to the rescue.

“Copa Vacía” follows Shakira’s sweet song “Acróstico,” which is a love letter to her children. The “Acróstico” music video, which was released in May, features her two sons — Milan and Sasha — who sing and play the piano alongside her.

In May, Shakira was also honored at the inaugural Billboard Latin Women in Music gala as Woman of the Year, during which she gave an emotional speech in which she acknowledged the hard times she’s been through, and thanked her mother, her friends, and women in general.

Shakira is dealing with an empty glass…

The 46-year-old Colombian superstar has joined voices with Manuel Turizo for the single “Copa Vacía,” which will be released on June 29.

Shakira“We made a movie,” the Colombian artists teased on social media of their first song together, sharing a poster that looks straight out of a movie with Shakira taking the role of a mermaid and Turizo as the prince.

The first time Shakira hinted at a new song was June 9, when she posted a photo of herself as a mermaid with the cryptic caption, “You want thingamabobs? I got twenty…,” a lyric from The Little Mermaid‘s “Part of Your World.”

But she didn’t offer anymore details, leaving fans wondering what she was up to.

Now, they know to expect a new song with “La Bachata” singer and a music video that promises to be a cinematic experience.

“Copa Vacía” will follow Shakira’s sweet song “Acróstico,” which is a love letter to her children.

“This year Milan has written songs that have made me tear up and Sasha has dedicated hours playing the piano and discovering his voice,” Shakira wrote in Spanish on social media when the video dropped. “Both have spent some time with me in the studio and upon hearing this song, they’ve asked to be part of it. They’ve felt it and interpreted it in their own way and for themselves, with the same passion and emotion of a person who carries music within them.”

In May, Shakira was also honored at the inaugural Billboard Latin Women in Music gala as Woman of the Year, where she gave an emotional speech in which she acknowledged the hard times she’s been through, and thanked her mother, her friends and women in general.
