Demi Lovato Teases Rockified Version of Her Hit Single “Cool for the Summer”

Demi Lovato is ready to rock the summer…

The 30-year-old half-Mexican American singer/actress is planning to release a rock-ified remix of her electro-pop track “Cool for the Summer,” one of her biggest hits, later this month.

Demi LovatoIn a 10-second teaser clip, Lovato is seen in a studio re-recording the pre-chorus of Lovato’s 2015 smash.

But this time, instead of being accompanied by synths and hooky background vocals, the Grammy nominee sings over pounding drums and razor-edged electric guitar.

“Go tell your mother 😏,” Lovato captioned the video, a play on one of the song’s lyrics. “Cool For the Summer (Rock Version) 5/25.”

Produced by Max Martin and Ali Payami, “Cool for the Summer” was originally released eight years ago as the lead single from Lovato’s fifth studio album, Confident.

The song peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, whereas the album bowed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

About seven years later in March 2022, the song had something of a renaissance. A sped-up version of “Cool for the Summer” started trending on TikTok, and Lovato ended up releasing an official sped-up remix that April.

The rock remix of “Cool for the Summer” will sound more akin than the original to the style of music Lovato has been releasing more recently. Last year, she made a very deliberate departure from pop music — even hosting a joking funeral ceremony for the genre — and released a strictly hard rock album titled Holy Fvck, which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200.

In an Instagram Story, Lovato wears a multi-colored ’90s-inspired Gucci jacket and slim sunglasses while driving around L.A. listening to the seemingly autobiographical track.

“I know I made it hard for you / And I owe my part, I’ll tell the truth / You said that it’d be over/ If I didn’t get sober / Sober,” her voice croons from the car’s speakers.

Lovato also used a GIF of a steaming teapot in the Story, which she captioned “#D7.”

While the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer has yet to announce an official release date for her seventh studio set, the LP is expected to include the self-love anthem “I Love Me.”

The album will also serve as her first full-length release since recovering from an accidental overdose and hospitalization back in July 2018.

One month prior to her relapse, Lovato dropped one-off single “Sober,” a heart-wrenching, apologetic ballad detailing her lapse in sobriety.

She’s since signed with Scooter Braun as her new manager, joining the music mogul’s powerhouse roster of clients including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly and more.

Lovato is a two-time Grammy nominee, for her album Confident and song Fall in Line” with Christina Aguilera

While fans anxiously await the follow-up to 2017’s Tell Me You Love Me, Lovato is next set to join forces with JoJo on a remix of the latter’s single “Lonely Hearts.” The duet between the two big-voiced singers will be included on the deluxe edition of JoJo’s latest album, Good to Know, which is slated for release on August 28 via Clover Music/Warner Records.

Lovato Gives Moving Speech on Mental Health at the Democratic National Convention

Demi Lovato is living with mental illness, and she’s not afraid to talk about it to a national audience.

The 23-year-old part-Mexican American singer/actress delivered an inspired speech regarding mental illness and a need to improve the quality and availability of medical treatment during the opening night of the Democratic National Convention on Monday in Philadelphia.

Demi Lovato

“Like millions of Americans, I am living with mental illness, but I’m lucky: I had the resources and support to get treatment at a top facility,” said Lovato, who spent time in a treatment center for bipolar disorder and anxiety. “Unfortunately, too many Americans from all walks of life don’t get help, either because they fear the stigma or they can not afford treatment.

Lovato also called on politicians to support laws that would provide access to improved health care for all those suffering with mental illness. “Untreated mental illness can lead to devastating consequences including suicide, substance abuse and long-term medical issues,” Lovato said. “We can do better. Every one of us can make a difference.”

“I stand here today as proof that you can live a normal and empowered life with mental illness,” the singer added. “I’m proud to support a presidential candidate who will fight to ensure all people living with mental health conditions get the care they need to lead fulfilling lives. That candidate is Hillary Clinton. Let’s make her the next president of the United States of America.”

Following her speech, Lovato then offered the Philadelphia crowd a live performance of her single “Confident.”

“I was so impressed by Demi’s fearless performance as a guest star on my TV series From Dusk Till Dawn that I jumped at the chance to direct her video,” Rodriguez said. “I basically treated this like we were shooting a high-octane action film, because she has the presence and star power to pull it off. She’s incredible.”

Lovato Poses Nude, Without Makeup or Retouching, for Vanity Fair

Demi Lovato is expressing her right to bare arms and more…

The 23-year-old part-Mexican American singer/actress has participated in a special nude photo shoot with Vanity Fair.

Demi Lovato Vanity Fair

The pictorial, not part of a pre-calculated media stint, was Lovato’s way of making a statement about confidence, as the “Cool for the Summer” singer posed without any makeup or retouching in the nude.

“I thought there was something incredible about the idea of no makeup whatsoever, no clothes and no retouching,” she said in a Vanity Fair video interview. “I would have never thought that I would have ever got to a place in my life where I would feel comfortable doing that. It’s empowering me and it shows other women that you can get to a place where you can overcome the obstacles of body image issues and you can feel comfortable and confident in your skin.”

Lovato has openly discussed her battles with eating disorders in the past, so for her to expose herself in this way holds significant personal importance.

“I basically went from hating every single inch of my body to working on myself and trying to figure out ways to love myself and love the skin that I’m in,” she continued. “I learned after working very hard on my spirituality and my soul and my body, I learned that you can get to a place where you love the skin that you’re in and I’m excited to share that with the world.”

The whole photo shoot came together with a sort of right-place-at-the-right-time scenario. Vanity Fair photographer Patrick Ecclesine was in New York for a piece on Phil McIntyre, C.E.O. of music talent-management firm Philymack, who has launched careers of pop stars including Nick Jonas and Lovato, who Ecclesine had shot once before.

Lovato’s great-grandfather Buddy Moore had died the day before and when she showed up they discussed her sadness. From there, it was Lovato’s idea to do the shoot right then and there at 12:30 a.m. in a New York hotel room.

It’s no coincidence, however, Lovato has a new album coming out on October 16 called Confident.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the past day, it’s that life is too short,” Ecclesine recalled Lovato telling him. “I’m about to launch an album that finally represents who I truly am. How do I embrace this new chapter in my life? How do I really walk the walk? What does it mean to be confident? It means letting go, being authentic, saying I don’t give a fuck and this is who I am. I want to show the side of me that’s real, that’s liberated, that’s free. What if we do a photo shoot where it’s totally raw? Super-sexy, but no makeup, no fancy lighting, no retouching, and no clothing. Let’s do it here, let’s do it now.”
