Ortiz to Guest Star on TBS’ “The Guest Book”

John Ortiz has signed in…

The 48-year-old Puerto Rican actor will guest star on TBS’ The Guest Book, the new 10-episode comedy series from My Name Is Earl’s Greg Garcia.

The Guest Book emerged from Garcia’s habit of writing fictitious stories in the guest books of various rental cabins in an effort to freak out the next renters. Now he is bringing some of those stories to life on screen centering on the vacation home Froggy Cottage and its visitors. While the house and cast of characters living in this small mountain town remain the same, each episode will feature a different set of vacationing guests.

The anthology-style show, written by Garcia and executive produced by him and Alix Jaffe, will premiere in August.

It will star Kellie Martin (Army Wives), Charlie Robinson (Hart of Dixie), Aloma Wright (Suits), Carly Jibson (Broadway’s Hairspray), Lou Wilson (Tween Fest), Garret Dillahunt (The Mindy Project), Laura Bell Bundy (Scream Queens) and Eddie Steeples (My Name Is Earl).

Martin will play Officer Kimberly Leahy, who serves on the police force in the small mountain town of Mount Trace. Robinson is Wilfrid, an easygoing, friendly gentleman who manages a group of mountain rental cottages with his wife, Emma, played by recurring guest star Wright. Jibson is Vivian, a tough, strong-willed woman who runs a bikini bar called Chubbys with her stepson Frank, played by Wilson.

In addition to Ortiz, other guest stars include Danny Pudi (Community), Jenna Fischer (The Office), Tommy Dewey (The Mindy Project), Lauren Lapkus (Orange Is the new Black), Michaela Watkins (Casual), Mary Lynn Rajskub (24), Michael Rapaport (Sully), Kate Micucci (Raising Hope), Jaime Pressly (My Name Is Earl), Stockard Channing (The Good Wife), Andrew J. Guzman Lands Recurring Role in Showtime’s Comedy Pilot “Roadie”

Luis Guzman is ready to hit the roadie…

The 58-year-old Puerto Rican actor has landed a recurring role in Showtime’s comedy pilot Roadies.

The show follows a hot-ticket concert tour with a twist: The band is in the background, and the roadies take the spotlight.

Guzman will play Gooch, the band’s cherished bus driver.

Guzman’s television credits include appearances on How To Make It In America, Community, John from Cincinnati and Oz.

His film credits include The Bone Collector, The Lookalike and We’re The Millers.

Armisen to Present at This Year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards

Fred Armisen is about to get creative…

The 47-year-old half-Venezuelan American actor and former Saturday Night Live star, who received his first-ever Emmy nomination in an acting category this year, will be among the presenters at the 2014 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on August 16, according to the show’s executive producer Spike Jones Jr.

Armisen, who earneda best supporting actor in a comedy nod for Portlandia, the IFC series filmed and set in Portland, joins a list of presenters that includes Jane Lynch, Morgan Freeman, Tony Goldwyn, Heidi Klum and much of the nominated cast of Orange Is the New Black.

Other presenters include Patrick Adams (Suits), Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad), Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), Judy Greer (Archer), Jonathan Groff (The Normal Heart), Tim Gunn (Project Runway), Tony Hale (Veep), Allison Janney (Mom; Masters of Sex), Keegan Michael Key (Key and Peele), Natasha Lyonne (Orange Is the New Black), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Joel McHale (The Soup; Community), Aisha Tyler (Archer), Matt Walsh (Veep), Matt Weiner (Mad Men) and Bellamy Young (Scandal).

This year’s awards show will take place a week and a day before the Primetime Emmy Awards. An edited version of the show will be broadcast on the FXM cable network.

The entire show will be streamed on Emmys.com from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday Aug. 25, just before the Primetime Emmy Awards.

Michele & Darren Criss Perform “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” at Taste For A Cure Benefit

The 27-year-old part-Spanish actress/singer and her Glee co-star Darren Criss joined voices at the 19th annual “Taste For A Cure” benefit gala to help raise more than $700,000 for UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Center at the Beverly Wilshire Friday night.

As an all-star crowd of Hollywood elite dined on a sumptuous menu paired with 14 distinguished vintages from six of France’s premier wine-making regions, Criss asked who in the audience would donate to hear Michele join him on stage for a duet.

Co-chair Dana Walden bid $5,000 and the pair performed a touching version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz.

Michele voices Dorothy in the new animated Oz-inspired movie, Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return.

She posted a snippet of the performance on Instagram and wrote, “And then this happened!”

In all, more than 450 guests attended the event, which also included the participation of How I Met Your Mother’s Alyson Hannigan, Community’sJoel McHale and actor/comedian Tom Papa.

HBO Renews Rodriguez’s Medical Comedy “Getting On” for Second Season

Mel Rodriguez is getting on with his current acting job…

HBO has finalized a deal for a second-season pickup of the cable network’s offbeat medical comedy Getting On, which stars the 40-year-old Latino actor.

Rodriguez portrays new supervising nurse Patsy de la Serda on the HBO comedy, which also stars Laurie Metcalf, Alex Borstein and Niecy Nash.

The order is for six episodes, matching the size of Getting On‘s first season.

HBO brass had been high on the show, an adaptation of the BBC series of the same name, and had been looking to renew it contingent of sorting out budget issues.

Well received by critics, Getting On was a modest ratings performer but also was a word-of-mouth success.

Rodriguez’s previous credits include a recurring role on Community and a brief appearance in 2012’s Panic Room.

Longoria to Star in the Horror Film “Visions”

Eva Longoria is having horrific visions…

The Mexican American actress and former Desperate Housewives star has been added to the cast of the Blumhouse Productions horror film Visions.

Longoria joins Isla Fisher and Community‘s Gillian Jacobs in film, with The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons in talks to co-star.

Fisher stars as a pregnant woman who moves with her husband to the countryside where she’s plagued by visions of a sinister hooded figure.

Longoria will portray Fisher’s fashionable, acerbic and funny city gal pal who disapproves of her friend’s life choices.

Directed by Kevin Greutert, Visions was written by Lucas Sussman.

Longoria most recently directed Episode 1 of Lifetime’s Devious Maids, the Marc Cherry dramedy that she also executive-produces.

On the big screen Longoria is set to star in the upcoming pics Frontera with Michael Pena and Ed Harris, Refugio from Demian Bichir, and Any Day opposite Sean Bean and Kate Walsh.

Guzmán Lands Recurring Role on ABC’s Midseason Drama “Mind Games”

Luis Guzmán is getting ready to play mind games…

The 57-year-old Puerto Rican actor has landed a recurring role on ABC’s midseason drama Mind Games.

The series centers on two brothers — Ross (portrayed by Christian Slater), a con man, and Clark (Steve Zahn), suffering from bipolar disorder — as they run a problem-solving firm that uses psychological manipulation.

Guzmán will portray Nate, a henchman for fellow recurring actor Vinnie Jones’ character Isaac.

His character is described as a physically imposing and very intimidating, but with a soft center.

It’s the latest television role for Guzmán, who is known for his character work in films like We’re the Millers, Nothing Like the Holidays and Anger Management.

He most recently guest-starred on an episode of NBC’s Community, as well as starred in HBO’s How to Make It in America for two seasons.

Louis C.K. Earns a Satellite Award Nomination…

Louis C.K. continues his reign as the “King of Comedy”…

The 45-year-old half-Mexican American actor/comedian has been nominated for a Satellite Award by the International Press Academy for his starring role in FX’s comedy series Louie.

Louis C.K. – who picked up two awards at this year’s Primetime Emmys, including one for his behind-the-scenes work on Louie – has earned a nod in the Actor in a Series, Comedy or Musical category.

He’ll compete against House of Lies’ Don Cheadle, Community’s Joel McHale, The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons, Up All Night’s Will Arnett and The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki.

This is Louis C.K.’s second consecutive Satellite Awards nomination for his role on Louie.

The 17^th annual Satellite Awards cover a total of 31 film and TV categories. Winners will be announced during a gala on December 16 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City, California.

Louis C.K. Picks Up Two Primetime Emmy Awards…

The number 13 isn’t so unlucky for Louis C.K.

The 45-year-old half-Mexican American actor/comedian picked up two trophies at Sunday night’s Primetime Emmy Awards exactly thirteen years after picking up his first Emmy.

Louis C.K., who had racked up seven nominations—the most nods for any nominee in the same year, picked up his first award for his behind-the-scenes work on his critically acclaimed FX series Louie.

His “Pregnant” episode beat out an episode of Community and Girls and two episodes of Parks and Recreation to claim the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award.

Asked backstage why FX’s Louie has brought him acclaim, while his HBO series Lucky Louie was cancelled after one season.

“I’m better than I was before, and hopefully I’ll be better later too,” he proclaimed, adding that being in New York with a “better group of people” has helped his new FX program.

“Whenever you leave behind failure, you’re doing good,” he said. “If you think everything you’ve done is great, you’re probably dumb. … I’m older now too. Older people are smarter and funnier.”

Meanwhile, Louis C.K.’s revolutionary online special Louis C.K. Live at the Beacon Theatre, which aired on FX six months after its digital release, picked up the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.

Louis C.K. had previously earned his first Emmy in 1999 in the Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program category for serving as a writer on HBO’s The Chris Rock Show.

Louis C.K. Claims Critics’ Choice Television Award

And the award recognition keeps coming in for Louis C.K.

The 44-year-old half-Mexican American actor/comedian on Monday night picked up the Best Actor in a Comedy Series award at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

Louis C.K., who stars as the title character in FX’s critically acclaimed sitcom Louie, beat out House of Lies’ Don Cheadle, Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry David, Raising Hope’s Garret Dillahunt, Community’s Joel McHale and The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons for the award.

Louis C.K., who recently received a nomination for Individual Achievement in Comedy category from the Television Critics Association, will next appear in Woody Allen’s next film.

Along with being named to Time’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, Louis C.K. picked up four trophies at the Comedy Central Comedy Awards in April.

NBC‘s struggling cult hit Community, led the field with six nominations, won Best Comedy Series.
