Blue Fox Entertainment Secures Worldwide Rights to Alfred Molina’s “Saint Judy”

Blue Fox Entertainment has secured the worldwide rights to Saint Judy, a biopic centered on immigration attorney Judy Wood starring the 65-year-old half-Spanish actor.

Directed by Sean Hanish, the film stars Michelle Monaghan, Leem Lubany, Common, Molina, Alfre Woodard, Peter Krause, Gabriel Bateman, Ben Schnetzer, Mykelti Williamson, Waleed Zuaiter, Kevin Chapman and Aimee Garcia.

The film follows Judy, a single mother in her mid-30’s, who single-handedly changed the U.S. law of asylum. In a landmark case, Ms. Wood represented an Afghan woman who fled her home country after being persecuted by the Taliban for opening a school for girls. Against all odds, Ms. Wood fought a tenacious battle both in and out of court, which culminated in arguments before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. By winning the case, she changed the Law of Asylum nationwide, allowing women to be designated a protected class – saving the lives of not only her client but thousands of other female refugees. 

Blue Fox will launch international sales at the Toronto Film Festivaland will release the film domestically early next year.

Dmitry Portnoy wrote the original screenplay.

The film was produced by Cannonball Production, with Molina serving as an executive producer.

Cardi B to Headline This Year’s ONE Musicfest in Atlanta

The lineup for Atlanta’s ONE Musicfest 2018 has been announced, with the 25-year-old half-Dominican American rapper among the artists set to headline the ninth incarnation of the event.

Now a two-day celebration of live music, this year’s festivities are slated to take place at Central Park on September 8-9, with tickets available at the festival’s website.

In addition to Cardi B, Nas and Miguel are also slated to headline, while additional performers include Jeezy, T.I., George Clinton with Parliament, Big Sean, Common with his super group August GreeneRapsody,Kelis, Brandy, Jessie Reyez, DJ Nabs’ ATL Crunk Set featuring YoungBloodz, Ying Yang Twins, Eastside Boyz, Trillville,Kilo Ali and DJ Taz, and a handful of others.

Last year’s event saw more than 20,000 attendees come out to enjoy Jill Scott, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and what was billed as a farewell performance from Yasiin Bey (Mos Def).

“We are all super excited about OMF2018,” says founder Jason “J” Carter. “Growing into a two-day festival allows us to expand our roster, highlight more of the music that we love and give our audience an experience unlike any!”

Gael García Bernal to Perform at This Year’s Oscars

The 39-year-old Mexican actor/filmmaker will perform at this year’s Academy Awards, according to the show’s producers.

Garcia Bernal will be among the artists tackling this year’s Oscar nominated songs.

Garcia Bernal will be joined by Natalia LaFourcade and Miguel to sing Remember Me” from Disney/Pixar’s Coco; with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Garcia Bernal voiced the character of deceased songwriter Héctor Rivera in the animated film, and his character wrote the song.

Other performers include Mary J. Blige, Andra Day, Keala Settle, Sufjan Stevens and Common.

Blige will perform “Mighty River.” Blige performed the song for Mudbound, and she’s nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category. Blige wrote the Oscar-nominated song with Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson.

Common and Andra Day will perform his Oscar-nominated song “Stand Up For Something” from Marshall, his collaboration with Diane Warren.

Settle will perform the Oscar-nominated song “This is Me from The Greatest Showman.

Stevens will perform his Oscar-nominated songMystery of Love,” written for Call Me by Your Name.

“We’re excited to have these talented artists showcase the powerful contribution music makes to film making,” said De Luca and Todd. “It’s a privilege to welcome them to the 90th Oscars stage.”

The Jimmy Kimmel-hosted show is set for Sunday, March 4.

John Leguizamo to Take Part in The People’s State of the Union

The 53-year-old Colombian actor/comedian will take part in what’s being dubbed as The People’s State of the Union.

Taking place a day before U.S. President Donald Trump deliverers his State of the Union speech, Lequizamo will join celebrities like Mark Ruffalo, activists, and representatives from political organizations in New York City on Monday, January 29.

The goal? To unite against Trump’s agenda and spur voters to win back U.S. Congress in the mid-term elections.

“In essence, it’s a better reflection of our state of the union based on a more populist point of view, based on the people’s point of view,” Ruffalo told People of the event. “I think it’s important because we have a president who has a difficult time with the truth, who has a radical, divisive agenda, and spends an enormous amount of time focusing on the negative and hopelessness and despair.”

“We want to celebrate this moment that we’re in of what is now probably one of the most influential and powerful and really beautiful movements to come into play in the United States since the civil rights movement,” Ruffalo continued, going on to describe the event as “a celebration of the power and the beauty of this movement, but also of our accomplishments and to focus on what’s to come in the immediate future.”

Other participants will include Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Nixon, Michael Moore, Kathy Najimy, Wanda Sykes, Lee Daniels, Rosie Perez and Fisher Stevens, as well as Andra Day and Common, who will perform their song “Stand Up for Something” from the film Marshall.

Rafael Casal Among the Scheduled Speakers at This Year’s Respect Rally

Rafael Casal is rallying the troops…

The 32-year-old Latino writer and performance poet will be among the speakers at the Respect Rally set to happen at the Sundance Film Festival.

Casal will join a list of speakers that includes Jane FondaCommon and Gloria Allred.

The mayor of Salt Lake City Jackie Biskupski and Utah Senate candidate Jenny Wilson will also participate in the Park City event on January 20.

Organizers expect around 3,000 to 5,000 attendees on what traditionally is the busiest day at Sundance.

“While the event is very different than last years march, it will have an equally uplifting and energizing feel for all those who attend,” says Cynthia Levine, Respect Rally Park City organizer and organizer of last year’s #MarchOnMain.

As well as the Respect Rally in Park City, gatherings and marches are planned for Los Angeles, New York and other cities on January 20.

Ana De Armas to Star in the Action-Thriller “Three Seconds”

The 29-year-old Cuban actress has landed a role in Andrea Di Stefano’s Three Seconds, based on the best-selling Swedish novel by Anders Roslund and Börge Hellström.

She joins a cast that includes Joel Kinnaman, Rosamund Pike, Common and Clive Owen.

The action-thriller was written by Matt Cook, with revisions by Rowan Joffé and current revisions by DiStefano.

The story follows reformed criminal and former Special Ops soldier Pete Hoffman who, in order to free himself from jail and return to his wife and daughter, has been working undercover for crooked FBI handlers to infiltrate the Polish mob’s drug trade in New York. In a final step toward freedom, Hoffman must return to the one place he’s fought so hard to leave: Bale Hill Prison, where his mission becomes a race against time when a drug deal goes wrong and threatens his identity as a mole.

De Armas will play Hoffman’s wife, Sofia, a small-businesswoman who owns a grocery store. She most recently was seen in Hands of Stone with Edgar Ramirez and Robert De Niro, and War Dogs with Jonah Hill and Miles Teller.

She’ll next appear in Blade Runner 2049 with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, which will bow in the U.S. on October 6 via Warner Bros.

Lopez Returning as Host of This Year’s Playboy Jazz Festival

George Lopez is jazzed about his upcoming gig…

The 55-year-old Mexican American actor/comedian will host this year’s Playboy Jazz Festival, which will be presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association June 10-11 at the Hollywood Bowl.

It’ll be Lopez’s fifth consecutive year as host.

This year’s 39th Festival will feature a star-studded lineup that includes Gregory Porter, Corinne Bailey Rae, Kenny Garrett, Common and Keb’ Mo’ Band.

The full talent lineup will be revealed on March 7.

Chavarria to Star in the Naval Action Thriller “Hunter Killer”

The 27-year-old Honduran American actor has joined Millennium Films’ naval action thriller Hunter Killer.

Chavarria will star in a key role, joining Gerard Butler, Common and Gary Oldman in the story of an American submarine commander deployed to Russian waters in order to save the elected Russian president from a military coup.

Chavarria will portray a Navy SEAL aboard the American submarine.

Chavarria recently wrapped filming on 20th Century Fox’s War for the Planet of the Apes in which he plays one of the two human leads alongside Woody Harrelson, set for release July 14, 2017.

His credits include the Los Angeles Film Festival pic Lowriders, from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions, and his Hulu series East Los High that premieres its fourth season July 15.

Donovan Marsh is directing Hunter Killer from a script by Peter Craig and Jamie Moss based on the George Wallace and Don Keith novel Firing Point

Hunter Killer is set to begin filming in London on July 25.

Leguizamo Returning to Star Opposite Keanu Reeves in “John Wick 2”

John Leguizamo is back to his Wick-ed ways…

The 51-year-old Colombian actor and comedian is set to return for the sequel to the sleeper hitman-themed hit John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves.

Filming has just begun in New York and will head to Rome in the New Year. As with the original, John Wick 2 will be directed by Chad Stahelski.

The original film centered on an ex-hitman (Reeves) who is brought out of retirement as he seeks revenge on a group of gangsters who took everything from him. Plot details are being kept under wraps for the sequel.

In addition to Leguizamo, who starred as Aurelio in the original, the sequel will see the return of Bridget Moynahan, Ian McShane, Thomas Sadoski and Lance Reddick.

Newcomers to the film include Ruby Rose, Riccardo Scamarcio, Peter Stormare and Common.

Derek Kolstad (John Wick) wrote the screenplay.

The film will be released through Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment.

The original grossed $130.9 million worldwide last fall.

Bailon to Co-Host Fox’s Summer Reality Series “Knock Knock Live”

It looks like Adrienne Bailon is ready for a knock off….

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian American singer, actress, dancer and television personality will serve as one of the five co-hosts on Fox’s summer reality series Knock Knock Live.

Bailon, a former star The Cheetah Girls member and current co-host of Fox’s talk show The Real, will be joined by American Idol alum Kellie Pickler, TV host Ross Mathews and radio personalities Jordan “Shorty” Johnson and Chuey Martinez.

Bailon and the gang will travel the country rapping on people’s front doors and giving them a chance to win prizes and meet celebrities.

The network also announced that celebrities set for the Ryan Seacrest-hosted show include Common, David Beckham, Luke Bryan, Mike Holmes, Lea Michele, Meghan Trainor and country duo Florida Georgia Line.

Knock Knock Live is set to premiere on July 21 at 9:00 pm on Fox.
