Lopez Pays Tribute to Selena at Recent Concert Stop

She may be the world’s most powerful celebrity… But Jennifer Lopez hasn’t forgotten about the role that launched her massive career.

During a recent concert stop in Dallas on her successful world tour, the 43-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actress paid special tribute to the late Selena—the woman she portrayed in her breakthrough film back in 1997—by performing the singer’s emotionally charged “No Me Queda Mas.”

Dressed in an oh-so-sheer red dress, Lopez told the audience that she was grateful to have been chosen to play la Reina de la Musica Tejana before treating concertgoers to the song.

Lopez’s performance in the film, which received mostly positive reviews from critics, left a big impression on film critics like the Chicago Sun-TimesRoger Ebert. He gave Selena three-and-a-half stars out of four and wrote, “The teenage and adult Selena is played by Lopez in a star-making performance. After her strong work as the passionate lover of Jack Nicholson in the current Blood and Wine, here she creates a completely different performance, as a loyal Quintanilla who does most of her growing up on a tour bus with her dad at the wheel.”

The former American Idol judge received several award nominations for her role as Selena, including a Golden Globe nod for best performance by an actress in a musical or comedy motion picture.
