Carlos Gomez is coming to (high)town

The 58-year-old Latino American actor has landed a recurring role on the second season of Starz’s crime drama series Hightown, starring Monica Raymund, from Jerry Bruckheimer and Lionsgate Television.

Carlos Gomez

The second season picks up about six weeks after the events in the Season 1 finale, around Halloween, in Cape Cod’s desolate, cold but still achingly beautiful off-season. The tourists are gone, and all of our characters are in a different place compared to where they were at the beginning of season one. The weak are now powerful, and the powerful are now weak. But beyond that, there is darkness beneath the surface of all of our main characters, particularly Jackie and Ray. Both have shadow sides of their personality — holes in their souls that they try to fill with drugs, alcohol, women, ambition and work. There’s a new terror on The Cape, and it may be its greatest White Whale yet.

Gomez will play Rafael. Father of Jackie (Raymund), past his glory days but always looking for a good time. Charismatic and charming with a dark side, Rafael is a fisherman in New Bedford, MA. He has a strained and complicated relationship with his daughter.

Rebecca Cutter created the series and serves as executive producer with Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.

Gomez’s previous television credits include The Baker and the Beauty, Chicago Med, Elementary and Madam Secretary.

NBC Renews Ferrera’s “Superstore” for Second Season

America Ferrera is still on Cloud Nine

NBC has given an early renewal to midseason comedy Superstore starring the 31-year-old Honduran American actress.

Superstore

The comedy joins breakout fall drama Blindspot, solid new Chicago addition Chicago Med and fellow midseason entry Shades of Blue as the freshman NBC series that have already secured Season 2 pickups.

Superstore has done well for NBC, which has struggled in the comedy genre for the past couple of seasons. After a promising ratings start in the preview behind The Voice, Superstore has held up well as the 8:00 pm Monday anchor, pulling in very respectable numbers with no lead-in, both in Live+same day and delayed viewing.

Season to date, Superstore is averaging a 2.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.9 million viewers overall in Live+7, making it NBC’s highest rated first-year comedy in two years.

Superstore also delivers an upscale audience, indexing at a 112 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes.

Superstore is set behind the scenes of a big box retail megastore, Cloud 9. It centers around Amy (Ferrera), the megastore’s most stalwart employee as well as the glue holding the place together, and newly hired Jonah (Ben Feldman), a naive dreamer determined to prove work doesn’t have to be boring. Their fellow associates include the sardonic Garrett (Colton Dunn), the ambitious Mateo (Nico Santos) and the sweet pregnant teenager Cheyenne (Nichole Bloom). Overseeing them all are Glenn (Mark McKinney), the store’s affable, clueless store manager, and Dina (Lauren Ash), the aggressive assistant manager who lives by a very specific code — namely the store’s employee handbook.

Superstore was created by Justin Spitzer, who serves as an executive producer with director Ruben Fleischer, David Bernad and Gabe Miller & Jonathan Green.

“We’re thrilled to renew a show that’s so incredibly funny and relatable, full of great characters who are brought to life by an amazing cast and creative team,” NBC Entertainment president Jennifer  Salke said.

Superstore is produced by Universal Television, Spitzer Holding Company and The District.

NBC Moves Up Dacosta’s “Chicago Med” Premiere to Fall

Yaya Dacosta’s new series is headed to television sooner than expected…

NBC is tweaking its fall schedule, replacing the new medical drama Heartbreaker with the 32-year-old part-Brazilian American actress’ new series Chicago Med.

Yaya Dacosta in Chicago Med

The network had announced a fall 2015 Tuesday lineup consisting of The Voice leading to Heartbreaker and new variety show Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, to be succeeded by NBC Tuesday 10 PM anchor Chicago Fire in November, when Best Time Ever’s run ends.

Chicago Med, which originated as a planted spinoff episode of Chicago Fire this past season, was previously slated for a midseason launch but will now debut in September behind The Voice. Starting in November, it will form a Chicago 9-11 PM block, paired with the franchise’s mothership series.

The scheduling change stems from the pregnancy of Heartbreaker star Melissa George, who is expecting her second child.

Both Heartbreaker and Chicago Med will start production in mid-summer, but Heartbreaker will then go on hiatus to accommodate George’s pregnancy.

Dick Wolf’s Chicago Med is described as an emotional thrill ride through the day-to-day chaos of the city’s most explosive hospital.

Chicago Med also stars Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Laurie Holden and Nick Gehlfuss.

DaCosta to Star in NBC’s “Chicago Fire” Spinoff “Chicago Med”

Yaya DaCosta is ready to go on call…

The 32-year-old part-Brazilian American actress, who recently portrayed Whitney Houston in the Lifetime biopic about the late singer, is set to star in NBC’s Chicago Med, the proposed ensemble medical drama spinoff from Chicago Fire.

Yaya DaCosta

DaCosta and the other cast members of the potential spinoff will be introduced in Episode 19 of Chicago Fire this season.

DaCosta will play Maggie Seaver (formerly Emily Sexton), an attractive nurse who begins to date Chicago Fire‘s Kelly (Taylor Kinney), with whom she has a history dating back to high school.

Like with Chicago PD, which also started as a planted spinoff from Chicago Fire, the Chicago Med  episode is conceived/written by Chicago Fire creators/executive producers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, executive producer Matt Olmstead and executive producer Dick Wolf, whose company Wolf Films produces the Chicago Fire/Chicago PD franchise for Universal Television.

“There will be an event that brings Chicago Med within Chicago Fire,” NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said at TCA last month.

DaCosta, who had been sought for pilots after following her breakout role as Whitney Houston, also appeared in Lee Daniels’ The Butler. She is with Gersh.
