Morena Baccarin to Star in CBS All Access’ Second Season of “The Twilight Zone”

Separately, Jordan Peele, who executive produces and narrates the show, will write an episode for the second season. 

The Get Out writer and director will write the episode Downtime, which features Baccarin, Domingo and Hale.

Jason Diaz to Appear on the CW’s Sci-Fi Drama Series “The 100”

The Latino actor has landed a recurring role on the upcoming seventh and final season of the CW’s sci-fi drama series The 100.

Josh Segarra to Star in Fox’s Half-Hour Holiday Event Series “The Moodys”

The 33-year-old Puerto Rican actor has landed a recurring role opposite Denis Leary and Elizabeth Perkins in The Moodys (fka A Moody Christmas), Fox’s half-hour holiday event series adaptation of the Australian series.

Slated to air in December, the single-camera comedy series hails from CBS Television Studios, which will co-produce with Fox Entertainment.

Written by Bob FisherRob Greenbergand Tad Quill, the six-episode series revolves around the Moodys, including Sean Sr. (Leary), his wife Ann (Perkins), their three grown children and an assorted mix of extended family members who gather for the holidays, with each packing his/her own eccentricities and complications.

Segarra will play Marco, “a commodities broker with exquisite phone skills” who is the son of Uncle Eugenio and Aunt Kathy. Handsome and charming, he thinks he might have found “the one” in Cora, though he’s not the most attentive boyfriend and is completely unaware that Dan is immediately smitten by his girlfriend.

Segarra plays Adrian Chase/Prometheus on the CW’s Arrow, which begins its eighth and final season on October 15.

He’ll next be seen starring alongside RuPaul Charles on Netflix’s anticipated dramedy AJ and the Queen and also will return to Comedy Central’s The Other Twoin his recurring role of Lance. 

He recently was seen as C.O. Stefanovic on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black.

Henry Zaga to Star in CBS All Access’ “The Stand” Series, Based on Stephen King’s Novel

The 26-year-old Brazilian actor is set to star in The Stand, an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel at CBS All Access.

Written by Josh Boone and Ben CavellThe Stand is King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old other Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

Zaga will star opposite James MarsdenAmber Heardand Odessa Youngin the limited event series from CBS Television Studios. The streaming service also announced that King will write the last chapter of the series, providing a new coda that won’t be found in the book.

Zaga will portray Nick Andros, a young deaf and mute man who finds himself in a position of authority when the unthinkable happens. He has a habit of risking his own well-being for the safety of others.

Marsden will portray Stu Redman, an ordinary working-class factory man in an extraordinary situation with a damaged quality to him that belies his exterior.

Heard will play Nadine Cross, a deeply conflicted woman who feels the consequences of her actions, but is still compelled by her allegiance to Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

Young is Frannie Goldsmith, a pregnant young woman navigating a strange new world, who also has the foresight to recognize that there is evil lurking beyond the Dark Man.

Zaga can be seen in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, which was just renewed for a fourth and final season, and the upcoming Trinkets as well as Looking for Alaska, which is currently in production. He will also be seen in Josh Boone’s X-Men: New Mutants.

CBS All Access has ordered a second season The Twilight Zone, itsanthology series starring the 47-year-old Afro-Latina American actress.

The CBS All Access series is a modern reimagining of Rod Serling’s original, which aired from 1959-64 on CBS and became a worldwide phenomenon, using socially conscious storytelling to explore the human condition and culture of the times.

CBS announced in 2017 that it would revive The Twilight Zone for streaming service CBS All Access with Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films.

Villafañe will play Lea Carter, an elementary school English teacher, who’s breezy and cool – like the Pittsburgh weather never is. Life decisions have always come easily, but when she reconnects with Evan and friends, she wonders for the first time if there’s more out there. The ever-smitten Evan has hoped that means him… since 9th grade.

Villafañe is best known for originating the role of Gloria Estefanin the Tony Awardnominated hit bio-musical about Estefan’s life, On Your Feet. She was most recently seen off-Broadwaystarring in the critically acclaimed production of Collective Rage.

The 43-year-old part-Puerto Rican actor has been cast as a lead opposite Kennedy McMann in the CW’s untitled Nancy Drew pilot inspired by the classic mysteries about the brilliant young sleuth.

Written/executive produced by Noga Landau, Schwartz and Savage and directed by Larry Teng, the untitled Nancy Drew project centers on 18-year-old Nancy Drew (McMann) and is set in the summer after her high school graduation. She thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation — and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.

Prinze will play Nancy’s dad, Carson Drew, a dynamic attorney who has become estranged from Nancy following the recent death of his beloved wife. But his attempts to reconnect with his daughter run aground when Nancy’s murder investigation reveals unsettling secrets from Carson’s own past.

In the 2007 movie starring Emma Robertsas Nancy Drew, Carson Drew was played by Tate Donovan.

Santiago Cabrera to Star in CBS All Access’ Upcoming Jean-Luc Picard-Themed “Star Trek” Series

The 40-year-old Chilean-Venezuelan actor and Salvation star is reuniting with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and CBS Studios for a co-starring role opposite Patrick Stewart in CBS All Access’ upcoming Star Trek series that will explore the next chapter of Jean-Luc Picard

Michelle Hurd also will co-star in the series, produced by CBS Television Studiosin association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

The new untitled Star Trek series features Stewart reprising his iconic role as Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation, as he takes on a new adventure.

No details are being revealed about the characters Cabrera and Hurd are playing, but Cabrera is rumored to be playing the pilot of Picard’s ship and a skillful thief. Hurd is said to be playing a former intelligence officer who is a brilliant analyst with a terrific memory that has not been affected by her drug and alcohol abuse.

Cabrera was one of the most sought actors for pilots this season who instead opted to do the Star Trek series. He starred for two seasons on the CBSsummer thriller drama series Salvation, from Secret Hideout and CBS Studios. He also recurred on HBO’s Big Little Lies and played Aramis in the BBCseries The Musketeers. In features, Cabrera recently was seen in Transformers: The Last Knight. 

Hanelle Culpepperwill direct the first two episodes of the series, making her the first woman to direct a pilot or debut episode of a Starfleet series in the franchise’s 53-year history. 

The show will air exclusively on CBS All Access in the United States and will be distributed concurrently internationally by CBS Studios International.

Jacqueline Grace Lopez to Star in the CW’s “Jane the Virgin” Spinoff, “Jane the Novela”

The Latina actress and former East Los High star has landed the lead role in Jane the Novela, the CW‘s Jane the Virgin spinoff pilot.

The telenovela anthology series project hails from Jane the Virgin creator/executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman, star Gina Rodriguez, exec producers Ben Silvermanand director Brad Silberling. as well as studio CBS Television Studios.

Written by Jane the Virgin scribe Valentina Garzaand directed by Silberling, Jane the Novela is envisioned as a soapy, telenovela-inspired anthology series in the tradition of Jane the Virgin, where each season is based on a different fictional novel “written by” Jane Villanueva and narrated by the author herself.

The first installment takes place at a Napa Valley Vineyard, where family secrets (and family members) don’t stay buried for long. It centers on Estela (Lopez), an up and coming art curator who has spent years playing it safe and coloring within the lines. But a shocking secret changes everything and forces her to live a double life.

Being “in the tradition of Jane the Virgin,” Jane the Novelamirrors the setup of the original series. It too follows a driven, imaginative twenty-something Latina woman (Lopez) who is torn between her boyfriend, Luen, and Felix, a handsome, rich guy. In this case, Luen is head of security while Felix co-owns a winery vs. Jane Villanueva’s (Rodriguez) cop boyfriend Michael and rich love interest Rafael, co-owner of the Marbella hotel.

Lopez has a handful of acting credits, most recently a guest spot on Hulu’s Light as a Feather Her short film The Girl Without Catswhich she wrote and produced, made the festival circuit. 

The CW Developing Potential “Jane the Virgin” Spinoff with Gina Rodriguez

The 34-year-old Puerto Rican actress and Jane the Virgin star is attached to serve as part of a potential spinoff of her The CW dramedy.

The network has put in development the untitled project, from the original series’ creator/executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman, Rodriguez, executive producer Ben Silverman, executive producer/director Brad Silberling and CBS Television Studios.

Details of the spinoff, written by Jane the Virgin scribe Valentina Garza and directed by Brad Silberling, haven’t been revealed. But the spinoff is envisioned as a soapy, telenovela-inspired anthology series in the tradition of Jane the Virgin, where each season is based on a different fictional novel “written by” Jane Villanueva and narrated by the author herself.

The first installment, referred to as Tar & Roses, takes place at the intersection of Napa Valley wine country and the San Francisco art scene.

This isn’t considered a character spinoff, although there had been chatter in the past about a potential Rogelio de le Vega spinoff starring Rodriguez’s TV dad Jaime Camil.

Garza and Silberling will executive produce alongside Rodriguez, Urman, Silverman, Joanna Klein and Emily Gipson.

Jane the Virgin will kick off its fifth and final season on The CW in early 2019.
