CBS All Access Renews Santiago Cabrera’s “Star Trek: Picard” for a Second Season

CBS All Access has officially renewed Star Trek: Picard, starring the 41-year-old Chilean actor, for a second season.

The announcement comes after the series received millions in tax credits from the state of California last month.

“The energy and excitement around the premiere of Star Trek: Picard has reached a magnitude greater than all of us at CBS All Access could have hoped for,” proclaimed Julie McNamara. “We’re thrilled to announce plans for a second season before the series’ debut, and we are confident that Star Trek fans and new viewers alike will be captured by the stellar cast and creative team’s meticulously crafted story when it premieres on January. 23,” the ViacomCBS owned streamer’s EVP, Original Content added.

While the Picard renewal is now official, there is no official word yet when Season 2 will premiere and how many episodes it will be. But the belief is that the Alex Kurtzman series is looking at a late 2020 or early 2021 lift-off with 10-episodes, similar to the soon-to-launch first season.

The much-anticipated Picard sees Patrick Stewart reprise his Star Fleet role for the first time since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis movie. The series also stars Next Gen vets Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner, Jeri RyanJonathan Del Arco, Michelle HurdIsa BrionesAlison Pill, Harry Treadawayand Evan Evagora.

CBS All Access Releases Season 2 Trailer for Odette Annable’s Anthology Drama Series “Tell Me a Story”

The official trailer for the second season of CBS All Access’ anthology drama Tell Me a Story, starring the 34-year-old Colombian and Cuban American actress, has been released.

The 10-episode second season will feature the stories of three legendary princesses – from Beauty and the Beast,Sleeping Beautyand Cinderella– like they’ve never been seen before. It will follow the Pruitt family as they navigate love, loss, romance and terror against the iconic backdrop of Nashville.

Filmed on location in Music City, the sophomore run of the anthology from Kapital Entertainment stars Paul WesleyCarrie-Anne Moss, Annable—who portrays Maddie, Eka DarvilleMatt Lauria, Natalie Alyn Lind and Ashley MadekweDanielle Campbell returns to the series, recurring along with Garcelle BeauvaisCaleb Castille and Christopher Meyer.

Henry Zaga to Star in CBS All Access’ “The Stand” Series, Based on Stephen King’s Novel

The 26-year-old Brazilian actor is set to star in The Stand, an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel at CBS All Access.

Written by Josh Boone and Ben CavellThe Stand is King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old other Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

Zaga will star opposite James MarsdenAmber Heardand Odessa Youngin the limited event series from CBS Television Studios. The streaming service also announced that King will write the last chapter of the series, providing a new coda that won’t be found in the book.

Zaga will portray Nick Andros, a young deaf and mute man who finds himself in a position of authority when the unthinkable happens. He has a habit of risking his own well-being for the safety of others.

Marsden will portray Stu Redman, an ordinary working-class factory man in an extraordinary situation with a damaged quality to him that belies his exterior.

Heard will play Nadine Cross, a deeply conflicted woman who feels the consequences of her actions, but is still compelled by her allegiance to Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

Young is Frannie Goldsmith, a pregnant young woman navigating a strange new world, who also has the foresight to recognize that there is evil lurking beyond the Dark Man.

The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios

Zaga can be seen in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, which was just renewed for a fourth and final season, and the upcoming Trinkets as well as Looking for Alaska, which is currently in production. He will also be seen in Josh Boone’s X-Men: New Mutants.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Receives Saturn Awards Nomination for “Mary Poppins Returns”

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican actor, composer/lyricist and Broadway legend has earned his first-ever Saturn Awards nomination.

Miranda earned the nod for in the Best Supporting Actor in a Film category for his acclaimed role in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns.

Last year, Miranda earned his first-ever Golden Globesnomination in an acting category his the same role.

The 45-year-old Puerto Rican actor is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor in Streaming Presentation category for his role in CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery.

The Saturn Awards prides itself in honoring genre entertainment since 1973 when it was started by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, who will retool the fan-favorite awards show by moving it from June to September 13. 

Because of that change, the eligibility window for this year’s nominations is based on a 16-month eligibility period from March 1, 2018 to July 7, 2019, rather than the usual 12 months. 

As part of the reorganization, the show also will move to the Avalon Theatrein Los Angeles. A first-time streaming partner will be announced shortly in order to increase the global reach of the show as well.

CBS All Access Orders Second Season of Zabryna Guevara’s “The Twilight Zone”

CBS All Access has ordered a second season The Twilight Zone, itsanthology series starring the 47-year-old Afro-Latina American actress.

The CBS All Access series is a modern reimagining of Rod Serling’s original, which aired from 1959-64 on CBS and became a worldwide phenomenon, using socially conscious storytelling to explore the human condition and culture of the times.

Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg’s reimagining of The Twilight Zone is off to an amazing start on CBS All Access, driving the most viewers on its premiere day for an original series to date,” said Julie McNamara, EVP Original Content at CBS All Access. “Jordan, Simon, the creative team and cast have done a phenomenal job translating the series’ legacy of socially conscious storytelling for modern-day audiences. They are master storytellers, and we look forward to bringing fans further into The Twilight Zone with a second season.”

CBS announced in 2017 that it would revive The Twilight Zone for streaming service CBS All Access with Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films.

Zabryna Guevara to Star in NBC’s Mystery Drama Pilot “Emergence”

The project hails from Kevin (Probably) Saves the World creators/executive producers Michele Fazekasand Tara Butters, director Paul McGuiganand ABC Studios.

Written by Fazekas and Butters and directed by McGuigan, Emergence is a character-driven genre thriller that centers on Jo (Tolman), a police chief who takes in a young child, Piper (Alexa Skye Swinton), she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child’s identity is at the center of it all.

Guevara will play Abby, a pediatrician who is a longtime friend of Jo.

Guevara stars as Dora in NBC’s breakout drama series New Amsterdamand in CBS All Access’ Tell Me A Story. She will be seen next month opposite Ginnifer Goodwinand James Frainin CBS All Access’ The Twilight Zonereboot. She also co-stars in indie film Swallow, which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival

Santiago Cabrera to Star in CBS All Access’ Upcoming Jean-Luc Picard-Themed “Star Trek” Series

The 40-year-old Chilean-Venezuelan actor and Salvation star is reuniting with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and CBS Studios for a co-starring role opposite Patrick Stewart in CBS All Access’ upcoming Star Trek series that will explore the next chapter of Jean-Luc Picard

Michelle Hurd also will co-star in the series, produced by CBS Television Studiosin association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

The new untitled Star Trek series features Stewart reprising his iconic role as Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation, as he takes on a new adventure.

No details are being revealed about the characters Cabrera and Hurd are playing, but Cabrera is rumored to be playing the pilot of Picard’s ship and a skillful thief. Hurd is said to be playing a former intelligence officer who is a brilliant analyst with a terrific memory that has not been affected by her drug and alcohol abuse.

Cabrera was one of the most sought actors for pilots this season who instead opted to do the Star Trek series. He starred for two seasons on the CBSsummer thriller drama series Salvation, from Secret Hideout and CBS Studios. He also recurred on HBO’s Big Little Lies and played Aramis in the BBCseries The Musketeers. In features, Cabrera recently was seen in Transformers: The Last Knight. 

Hanelle Culpepperwill direct the first two episodes of the series, making her the first woman to direct a pilot or debut episode of a Starfleet series in the franchise’s 53-year history. 

The show will air exclusively on CBS All Access in the United States and will be distributed concurrently internationally by CBS Studios International.

CBS All Access Renews Dania Ramirez’s “Tell Me a Story” for a Second Season

CBS All Access has ordered a second season of its psychological thriller drama series Tell Me a Story, starring the 39-year-old Dominican actress and former Devious Maids star.

From Kevin Williamson and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, the Williamson-helmed series is based on a Spanish format. It takes the world’s most beloved fairy tales and reimagines them as a dark and twisted psychological thriller.

Set in modern-day New York City, the first season of the serialized drama co-stars Billy Magnussen and James Wolk and interweaves “The Three Little Pigs,” “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Hansel and Gretel” into an epic and subversive tale of love, loss, greed, revenge and murder.

The Season 1 cast also includes Danielle Campbell, Dorian Missick, Michael Raymond-James, Davi Santos, Sam Jaeger, Zabryna Guevara with Paul Wesley and Kim Catrall.

It’s unclear which of the actors will return for the second installment of the anthology series.

“The first season of Tell Me a Story turned conventional fairy tales on their heads, interweaving and modernizing three classic stories into a compelling thriller for today’s audiences, in a way only Kevin Williamson can,” said Julie McNamara, EVP Original Content at CBS All Access. “We can’t wait to surprise and entertain viewers with a whole new set of tales next season.”

The first seven episodes of Tell Me a Story’s rookie season are available for streaming on CBS All Access. New episodes are available on demand weekly on Thursdays, exclusively for CBS All Access subscribers. The Season 1 finale will be available on January 3.

Davi Santos to Star in CBS All Access’ Psychological Thriller Series “Tell Me a Story”

The 28-year-old Brazilian actor has landed a major role in CBS All Access’ straight-to-series psychological thriller Tell Me a Story, from Kevin Williamson and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.

Written by Williamson, Tell Me a Story, which co-stars Billy Magnussen and Kim Catrall, is based on a Spanish format. It takes the world’s most beloved fairy tales and reimagines them as a dark and twisted psychological thriller.

Set in modern day New York City, the first season of this serialized drama interweaves “The Three Little Pigs,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” and “Hansel and Gretel” into an epic and subversive tale of love, loss, greed, revenge and murder.

Santos will play Gabe, a damaged and vulnerable young man with abandonment issues. When his sister Hannah (Dania Ramirez), his only family, enlisted in the Army, Gabe found himself lost in a lifestyle filled with sex and drugs in an attempt to shut out his reality. But when he finds himself in an irrevocable situation, he turns to his sister for help and they both embark on a deadly chase for survival.

He joins a cast that also includes James WolkDanielle Campbell and Paul Wesley.

Liz Friedlander directs and executive produces the first two episodes.

Santos, who played Ivan in Power Rangers Dino Charge, most recently recurred on Law & Order: True Crime and guest-starred on Will & Grace.
