Shakira Makes Red Hot Debut at This Year’s Met Gala, Earning Best Dressed Honors

Shakira is celebrating a red-hot red carpet debut on fashion’s biggest night…

The 47-year-old Colombian Grammy-winning singer/songwriter walked the steps at the Met Gala for the first time on Monday, looking stunning in red as she climbed the stairs.

Shakira, 2024 Met GalaShakira donned a spicy red gown by Carolina Herrera that gave off a flamenco vibe with its dramatic train and cape detailed with voluminous ruffled sleeves resembling an abstract rose.

The look also featured a sexy high slit at the leg, an open back, a low-cut sweetheart neckline and skin-baring cutouts on the sides. Adding a touch of sparkle, a diamond starburst ornament with a matching red stone was pinned to the front of the dress.

Shakira — who posed on the red carpet with Carolina Herrera creative director Wes Gordon — accessorized with simple red platform heels and a diamond rope necklace. She wore her long hair down in natural waves, and kept her glam simple and understated.

Bad Bunny, 2024 Met GalaBad Bunny, who served as co-chair of the Met Gala this year, blended personal identity, cultural homage and fairytale fantasy, perfectly encapsulating the “Garden of Time” dress code for the event in his red carpet look.

His striking look consisted of a custom outfit from the Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection by John Galliano. Benito’s ensemble was laden with symbolic and cultural references; it featured a black satin corset and a navy barathea wool smoking jacket adorned with black grosgrain lapels. The jacket’s stitching was notably unusual, with an inside-out appearance that added an avant-garde twist to his attire.

Complementing the look was his gigantic beret made of blue foam paired with tiny sunglasses. This choice of headwear added a dramatic flair that was both whimsical and fashion-forward.

On his feet, the “Me Porto Bonito” singer sported shoes that were no less unusual — they were crafted to resemble the shape of a goat, further enhancing the eccentric, storybook theme of his outfit.

Adding a personal touch and a nod to his heritage, Bad Bunny carried a black Flor de Maga, the national flower of Puerto Rico, which symbolizes the island’s bravery and resilience during challenging times.

Jennifer Lopez, 2024 Met GalaJennifer Lopez, another co-chair for the event, stuck to her signature luxe bombshell style for fashion’s biggest night. She walked the carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a ravishing sheer gown dripping with rhinestones and silver pearls. Designed by Daniel Roseberry, the custom Schiaparelli haute couture piece had a dramatic sculptural neckline, whose branchlike elements jutted out to the sides. It was draped and slitted at the front with illusion tulle, and had a train that pooled around her feet.

The strapless sheath gown was made with over 2.5 million silver foil bugles and beads, and took over 800 hours of hand embroidery to create.

J.Lo paired it with silky champagne peep-toe heels, a massive diamond necklace in the shape of a bird, diamond bracelets and drop earrings, a silky envelope clutch, and a messy topknot.

Karol G made her Met Gala debut embodying this year’s theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” in a sheer, crystal-embellished Marc Jacobs gown.

The 33-year-old Colombian singer elevated the structured, floor-length piece — and leaned further into fairycore — with prosthetic fairy ears, ethereal makeup and platinum locks that fell to her waist.

Karol G told Vogue that the event “was the perfect opportunity for me to express how I love fairies and dreamy vibes and fantasy.”

“And this was the world I wanted to go with, with Marc Jacobs, who is the designer of the dress,” she added.

Colman Domingo, 2024 Met GalaColman Domingo paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman and André Leon Talley at the event by wearing a cape that extended from his jacket, which he paired with wide-legged pants.

“They both wore capes when they were at the Met,” Colman told E! “Everything I do, I feel like it’s gotta be for the culture. It’s gotta be more than just for me.”

He continued, “I wanted to honor these brothers who were here before me as well.”

The Rustin actor honored the Black Panther star and the late Vogue journalist at the Met Gala. Colman’s suit was designed by Willy Chavarría and kept on theme carrying a bouquet of lilies.

Rosalia, 2024 Met GalaRosalia made her big return to the Met Gala, keeping her look simple, yet sophisticated with a black strapless gown by Dior that she paired with a chic veil.

“Embodying lady Dior. Embodying Maria Grazia‘s eyes,” she told Vogue‘s official red carpet co-hosts Gwendoline Christie and Ashley Graham at the event.

“I’m wearing all black because when I heard about the theme I heard it was about Sleeping Beauty. I was like, ‘What is this for me?'” she continued. “I thought about dreams. When you fall asleep, you close your eyes, you see black, you see darkness. That’s the prelude for the dreams. Today, I’m celebrating Dior and I’m a black tulip. By the way, by the way, Stephen Jones did this headpiece.”

Her look took over 1,800 hours of work to assemble.

Omar Apollo, 2024 Met GalaOmar Apollo stood out in a sharply tailored black suit by Loewe, epitomizing vintage chic.

Camila Cabello, 2024 Met GalaCamila Cabello channeled sophistication in a slit bronze-colored Ludovic de Saint Sernin gown complemented by Ring Concierge jewels and a blonde ponytail.

Rauw Alejandro, 2024 Met GalaRauw Alejandro opted for a gleaming metallic shirt paired with a silk white blazer, adding a touch of sleek sophistication.

Cardi B, 2024 Met GalaCardi B stepped out at the Met Gala in the largest dress ever seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The Grammy-winning rap superstar donned a voluminous black dress that surrounded her on the carpet. She also rocked a matching beehive-style headpiece to add height to her look and the most luscious green jewels to match the greenery of the carpet’s backdrop.

Her appearance at the event, which featured the dress code “The Garden of Time,” marks her fifth showing at fashion’s biggest night.

Gisele Bündchen: Forbes’ Highest-Paid Latina Model

She may not top the list, but Gisele Bündchen is still on top…

After 15-years as the world’s highest-paid model, the 37-year-old Brazilian supermodel drops to No. 2 on Forbes’ yearly list of the highest-paid models, behind Kendall Jenner.

But Bündchen is still standing tall, as the high-ranking Latina on the list, with earnings totaling $17.5 million.

Despite retiring from the runway in 2015, she still makes millions from contracts, including a lucrative fragrance deal with Carolina Herrera, as well as campaigns for Arezzo shoes and Vivara jewelry in her native country.

Bündchen has appeared on more than 1,200 magazine covers in her two-decade career, and she earned more money than any other model between 2002 – 2016.

The only other Latina in the Top 10, Bündchen’s compatriot Adriana Lima.

The 36-year-old Brazilian supermodel, the longest-running Angel in Victoria’s Secret history, comes in at No. 4 with earnings of $10.5 million.

Lima first strutted her stuff for Victoria’s Secret in 2000. Her seniority earns her a supersized deal with the lingerie maker.

She’s also the face of Sportmax and Marc Jacobs fragrances, and she hosts the hair and makeup competition show American Beauty Star on Lifetime.

Bündchen Retains World’s Highest-Paid Supermodel Status

Gisele Bündchen is still the queen…

The 36-year-old Brazilian bombshell maintains her status as the world’s highest-paid supermodel, according to Forbes magazine.

Gisele Bündchen

Bündchen, who announced her retirement from the runway in 2014, continued to reign over Forbes’s annual earnings list, banking $30.5 million in the year from June 2015 to May 2016, due in large part to lucrative fashion deals with brands like Chanel and Carolina Herrera, as well as sales from her own lingerie and skincare line.

Bündchen easily trumped her nearest competitor, Adriana Lima, her fellow countrywoman.

The 35-year-old Brazilian supermodel came in a distant second with $10.5 million in earnings.

Kim Kardashian‘s half-sister Kendall Jenner is tied with Karlie Kloss for third place with $10 million, while another social media favorite, Gigi Hadid, made her debut on the countdown, at No. 5, sharing the spot with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley with $9 million.

Others featured in the top 20 include Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, and Lily Aldridge, and together they boast 200 million followers on Instagram.

The 20 models earned a combined $150 million between June 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016. The results included income from cosmetics, fragrance and other contracts and were based on interviews with managers, agents and brand executives.

Here’s a look at the Top 10 (in descending order):

Bündchen Tops Forbes’ List of the Highest Paid Models of 2015

Gisele Bündchen is beautiful woman on top…

The 35-year-old Brazilian supermodel and entrepreneur tops Forbes‘ annual list of the highest paid models of 2015.

Gisele Bündchen

With an income of $44 million dollars, Bündchen’s salary is a league ahead of Cara Delevingne‘s income, which at $9 million has them tied for the second spot.

Bündchen’s earnings are slightly smaller than the $47 million she earned last year. She’s been atop the rankings since 2002.

The versatile Brazilian beauty continues to clock lucrative beauty and fragrance contracts with Chanel and Carolina Herrera, supplementing those money makers with prestigious high fashion campaigns for Emilio Pucci and Balenciaga. Gisele’s Under Armour advertisement, which pictured her attacking a punch bag while social media commentary blared in the background, was perhaps the most impactful this year. Gisele has turned her name into a brand: She gets a cut of sales from the jelly sandals she designs for Brazilian shoemaker Grendene, while her line of Hope lingerie — Gisele Bündchen Intimates — also plumps up her paycheck.

But Bündchen isn’t the only Latina to make this year’s list…

Adriana Lima comes in at No. 3 on this year’s list, with a reported earnings of $9 million.

Joan Smalls comes in at No. 6, with a reported earnings report of $5.5 million.

Alessandra Ambrosio comes in at No. 8, with a reported earnings report of $5 million.

  11. Karlie Kloss ($5 million)

Messi: The Top-Ranking Latino on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 List

Lionel Messi is a Latino at the top of the global earnings game…

The 28-year-old Argentine soccer star has earned the No. 13 spot on ForbesCelebrity 100, the list of the world’s highest-paid superstars of 2015.

Lionel Messi

Messi, the highest-ranking Latino on the list of the highest paid entertainers on the planet had earnings of $74 million during the reporting period.

In 2014, Spanish club Barcelona awarded Messi, a four-time FIFA player of the year, with a $9 million a year raise in his seventh contract since 2005, bringing his take home pay to $50 million a year through 2018. Messi holds records for most goals in Barca competitions, most goals in La Liga competitions, most goals scored in a calendar year and most hat tricks scored. That incredible talent is why sponsor Samsung cast him as superhero Iron Man in their ad to promote the Avengers film. It’s also why his main sponsor Adidas launched a Messi icon line of shoes and apparel, which has exceeded company sales expectations, including in the U.S.

He recently ranked as the top-ranking Latino on Forbes’ 2015 list of the World’s Highest-Paid Athletes, coming in at No. 4.

Meanwhile, Gisele Bündchen has earned the distinction of highest-ranking Latina on this year’s list.

The 34-year-old Brazilian supermodel, who has been the highest-paid model in the world since 2004, comes in at No. 46 with earnings of $44 million.

Bündchen, the world’s highest-paid model in 2014, continues to out-earn her younger counterparts. Despite rumors that she was retiring from the runway, Bündchen’s earnings have not suffered. She continues to land lucrative fragrance and beauty contracts with Carolina Herrera and Chanel, supplementing those deals with high fashion campaigns for Emilio Pucci and Balenciaga. Her Under Armour advertisement, which showed her attacking a punching bag while social media commentary blared in the background, was one of the most impactful this year. Bündchen has turned her name into a brand: she gets a cut of sales from the jelly sandals she designs for Brazilian shoemaker Grendene, while her line of Hope lingerie – Gisele Bündchen Intimates – also pumps up her paycheck.

Coming in at No. 52 is Bruno Mars, with earnings of $40 million.

The 29-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter’s recent collaboration with Mark Ronson, “Uptown Funk,” spent 14 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. It was only one of many reasons Mars solidified his place on the Celebrity 100. After being the featured musician in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Class of 2014, Mars continued to make a name for himself by completing his Moonshine Jungle tour. He’s currently working on his next album, and if it is anything like his previous studio effort, Mars can expect the awards and dollars to keep rolling in.

In all, 10 Latino/a celebrities made this year’s list, including tennis star Rafael Nadal, soccer phenom Neymar and multi-hyphenate extraordinaire Jennifer Lopez.

Here’s the complete list of Latino superstars on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list:

No. 13 Lionel Messi, $74 million
No. 46 Gisele Bündchen, $44 million
No. 52 Bruno Mars, $40 million
No. 63 Fernando Alonso, $35.5 million

Blahnik to Receive Couture Council of Artistry and Fashion Award from the Fashion Institute of Technology

It’s a special first for Manolo Blahnik

The 72-year-old Spanish designer and founder of the self-named, high-end shoe brand will receive a “career-crowning” Couture Council of Artistry and Fashion Award from the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

Manolo Blahnik

Blahnik is the first footwear designer to receive the prestigious international award for lifetime achievement.

Blahnik, who celebrated his namesake label’s 40th anniversary in 2012, became a late-career household name, thanks, in part, to Sex and the City, which name-dropped him reverently.

It’s one of the few international honors in fashion, decided by a committee of editors, retailers and journalists. In years past, it has been received by Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera.

Here are some important facts about Latinas and heart disease:

  • Hispanic women are likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than Caucasian women.
  • Only 1 in 3 Hispanic women are aware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer
  • Only 3 in 10 Hispanic women say they have been informed that they are at a higher risk.

Herrera Leads the Pack of Latino Fashion Designers Dressing the Stars at the Golden Globes

Carolina Herrera may not have attended this year’s Golden Globes… But her presence was definitely felt on the red carpet.

The 75-year-old Venezuelan fashion designer dressed several of today’s hottest starlets for Sunday’s 71s Annual Golden Globe Awards, including this year’s hostess with the mostess Tina Fey.

Here’s a look at some of Herrera’s most eye-catching dresses of the night…

Tina Fey in Carolina Herrera

Everything was coming up roses for Fey on the red carpet. The former 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live star turned heads in Herrera’s black and red rose printed dress. She paired the princess-like dress with jewelry by Fred Leighton and Brian Atwood shoes.

During the live telecast, Fey returned in another Herrera gown, a form-fitting, embellished maroon look. The SNL alum, wearing her hair down, accessorized the dress with jewels by Lorraine Schwartz and Brian Atwood shoes.

Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera

Meanwhile, Modern Family star Julie Bowen donned a red and purple velvet dress by Herrera. The actress paired the dynamic dress with Jimmy Choo heels, and Jacob & Co jewels.

Swift completed her look with Christian Louboutin shoes, a Jimmy Choo clutch, and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

But Herrera wasn’t the only Hispanic fashion designer represented on the red carpet…

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez

Two-time nominee Juila Louis-Dreyfus picked a red-hot Narcisco Rodriguez dress for the night’s festivities.

Dreyfus paired the custom-designed, scarlet-hued, crepe gown with antique gold and pearl jewels by Fred Leighton.

Last but certainly not least, Oscar de la Renta dressed two beauties for this year’s Golden Globes.

Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta

First up, Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery in a strapless gown from the 81-year-old Dominican fashion designer’s 2013 collection.

The dress, which featured gold speckled detail, fell shorter at the front, showing off Dockery’s simple satin heels.

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta

And New Girl star Zooey Deschanel’s de la Renta dress has been described as “vintage glam” with a “modern-day edge.”

The kitschy dress featured a crop top, mullet hem and oh-so-sparkly embroidery.
