Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” Ties Record for Most Weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

The tie’s the limit for Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican singer/songwriter and the 41-year-old rapper’s global phenomenon “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, has tied the record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 in the history of Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart, as it logs its 41st week on top (on the ranking dated February 10).

The track matches the 41-week reign of Enrique Iglesias‘ “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, in 2014-15.

“My goal has always been to make good songs that people enjoy and perform them with passion and honesty,” Fonsi tells Billboard. “To break or tie records, although it is not the priority, is a sign that people feel that connection. Being a small part of the history of Latin music is a real honor.”

“Despacito” first led Hot Latin Songs (which blends streaming, airplay and sales data) almost a year ago, rising to its first week at No. 1 on the Feb. 18, 2017-dated chart.

It spent 35 consecutive weeks at No. 1 and then ceded the top spot to J Balvin and Willy Willliam‘s “Mi Gente,” featuring Beyoncé, for 12 weeks, beginning  October 21.

“Despacito” then returned for another six weeks at No. 1 (so far).

On the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, “Despacito” spent 16 weeks at No. 1, tying Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men‘s “One Sweet Day” (in 1995-96) for the longest command in the chart’s 59-year history.

Helping “Despacito” on the most recent Hot Latin Songs chart: Fonsi and Daddy Yankee gave a high octane performance of the smash at the Grammy Awards on January 28, sparking a 9 percent gain to 16.8 million U.S. streams and 154 percent surge to 30,000 downloads sold in the week ending February 1, according to Nielsen Music.

Camila Cabello’s “Havana” Earns Longest Run at No. 1 on Pop Songs Chart for a Lead Female in Five Years

It’s Lucky No. 7 for Camila Cabello…

The 20-year-old Cuban and Mexican singer and former Fifth Harmony member’s breakout single “Havana,” featuring Young Thug, tops Billboard‘s Pop Songs radio airplay chart for a seventh week, marking the longest reign for a song by a solo female in a lead role in nearly five years.

“Havana” boasts the longest such command since Taylor Swift‘s “I Knew You Were Trouble,” which also led for seven weeks, beginning on the chart dated February 2, 2013.

The last song by a lead female to rule Pop Songs for more than seven weeks? Rihanna‘s “We Found Love,” featuring Calvin Harris: eight weeks in 2011-12.

The Pop Songs chart, dated January 13, measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 161 mainstream top 40 stations.

The longest command in the Pop Songs chart’s entire 25-year history belongs to Ace of Base‘s “The Sign“: 14 weeks at No. 1 in 1994. Three songs share the mark for the longest rule among lead females: 11 weeks each for Natalie Imbruglia‘s “Torn” (1998), Donna Lewis “I Love You Always Forever” (1996) and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men‘s “One Sweet Day” (1995-96).

“Havana” is from Cabello’s debut solo album Camila, due Friday (January 12). The follow-up single, “Never Be the Same,” bullets at No. 32 on Pop Songs.

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican singer and the 40-year-old Puerto Rican urban singer’s smash “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, has notched a 16th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, matching Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men‘s “One Sweet Day” for the longest command in the chart’s 59-year history.

The song leads the list dated September 9) for a 16th week, the most weeks at No. 1 ever for a single, equaling the reign of “One Sweet Day,” which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 in 1995-96.

“One Sweet Day” held the record for the Hot 100’s longest rule for 21 and a half years, establishing the longevity mark when it tallied its 15th week on top on the March 9, 1996-dated chart (passing Boyz II Men’s own “I’ll Make Love to You” and Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You,” both 14-week leaders). “One Sweet Day” added its final and, until this week unmatched, 16th week at No. 1 on March 16, 1996.

“Despacito” extends its record command on the Digital Song Sales chart to 17 weeks at No. 1, with 80,000 downloads sold (down 3 percent) in the week ending August 24, according to Nielsen Music; both the original version and Bieber remix were sale-priced for 69 cents in the iTunes Store during the tracking week (with the former on sale for 69 cents in the prior week, as well).

The single additionally leads the Streaming Songs chart for a record-extending 16th week, with 44.6 million U.S. streams (down 4 percent) in the week ending August 24.

On Radio Songs, “Despacito” holds at No. 5 after five prior weeks on top, drawing 105 million in all-format airplay audience (down 11 percent) in the week ending August 27.

“Despacito” tallies a 30th week atop the Hot Latin Songs chart and extends its reign on the Songs of the Summer survey to 13 weeks, having led the latter list each week since its annual return after Memorial Day; the summer champion and entire top 20 will be revealed next week.

Meanwhile, Cardi B‘s breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” holds at its No. 3 Hot 100 high. It keeps at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (42 million, up 16 percent); reaches the Digital Song Sales top 10 (12-8; 36,000, up 25 percent); and bounds 28-20 on Radio Songs (50 million, up 21 percent).

The 24-year-old half-Dominican American hip hop artist’s smash single spends a second week at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and takes over atop the all-genre audio subscription services-based On-Demand Streaming Songs chart (3-1; 16.9 million on-demand U.S. streams, up 15 percent).

Mars & Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” Earns 2015 Top Track Honors in the U.K.

Bruno Mars is celebrating a Funktastic 2015 in the United Kingdom…

The 30-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer’s retro blockbuster collaboration with Mark Ronson, “Uptown Funk,” was the top track in the U.K. last year.

The song spent seven weeks at No. 1 and chalked up combined sales and streams of 1.76 million to finish 2015 at the peak of the Official Charts Company’s end-of-year chart, well ahead of tracks by OMI and Hozier.

“Uptown Funk” registered 39 weeks in the Top 40 before finally departing in October. Its total combined U.K. sales since release in November 2014 now top 2.25 million, according to the OCC.

The song, lifted from Ronson’s fourth studio album Uptown Special, proved to be an unstoppable force on both sides of the Atlantic.

“Uptown Funk” spent 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, a feat tied for second behind the 16-week reign of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day.”

No other song has spent so long at the U.S. summit during the 2010s.

Ronson, who is based in the U.S. but was born in London, won British single of the year for “Uptown Funk” at the 2015 Brit Awards and he’s a former Brit Award winner for male artist of the year.

Pentatonix Gives Impressive Performance During ABC’s Charlie Brown Christmas Special

The 23-year-old half-Mexican, part Spanish-American singer and her fellow Pentatonix members helped spread a little holiday cheer alongside the Peanuts Gang.

In honor of the beloved animated characters and the perennial favorite A Charlie Brown Christmas, ABC aired It’s Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown with a special Pentatonix performance.

The a capella group performed “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” with the All-American Boys Chorus on the show, which was pre-recorded.

Other performers included performers Sarah McLachlan, Boyz II Men, Kristin Chenoweth, and pianist David Benoit, who worked on many of the annual yuletide Charlie Brown specials.

Special guests included Barack and Michelle Obama.

The anniversary program trended worldwide on Twitter due in part to its musical moments.

Carey Reveals Track List for Her Greatest Hits Album “#1 To Infinity”

Mariah Carey will have you feeling emotions and more in the near future…

After releasing the album artwork for Mariah Carey #1 To Infinity, a comprehensive greatest-hits package consisting of all 18 of her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s, the 45-year-old half-Venezuelan-American singer has confirmed its release date.

Due May 18 on Epic Records/Columbia Records/Sony Legacy, Infinity reunites Carey with Epic chairman-CEO Antonio “L.A.” Reid, who helped spearhead Carey’s mid-2000’s comeback with The Emancipation of Mimi as then-chairman of Island Def Jam Records. In addition to Carey’s 15 Sony No. 1’s and three Universal No. 1’s, the album will include one brand-new selection, title track “Infinity.” The song will premiere globally on April 27 via all digital services, as well as a video directed by Carey’s longtime collaborator Brett Ratner. Carey is also expected to host a kick-off event for her upcoming Caesars Palace residency in Las Vegas on April 27, with more details to be announced shortly.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be back together again with Mariah,” says Reid in a statement. “There is really no one who comes close to Mariah as both a songwriter and a singer, and as the world knows, her vocal range is legendary and truly incomparable.  Her music is indelibly etched into our culture, and she’s shattered so many chart records that she’s now firmly entrenched in the history books.  With a fierce and loyal fan base that covers every corner of the globe, I have no doubt Mariah will do it again.”

Infinity is the first release in a multi-album deal with Epic, which Carey signed earlier this year. Carey will perform all 18 No. 1s for the first time ever as part of her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, and is expected to pepper fan-favorite album cuts and previously never-performed tracks into each set as well. The first 18 confirmed 2015 performances are May 6, 9, 10, 13, 16, 17, 20, 23, 24; and July 8, 11, 12, 15, 18, 19, 22, 25, 26. Tickets are available at thecolosseum.com or axs.com.

Bruno Mars continues to funk his way closer to history…

The 29-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter’s collaboration with Mark Ronson, “Uptown Funk,” is now tied for the second-longest-leading Billboard Hot 100 song ever, ruling the chart for a 14th week.

The song is also tied for the chart’s longest command this century.

“Uptown Funk,” released on RCA Records, ties six other singles for the second-best run at No. 1 dating to the Hot 100’s August 4, 1958, launch, with only one song having led longer—Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day.”

With 14 weeks on top, it matches the Black Eyed Peas‘ command with “I Gotta Feeling,” the last song to lead for at least that long, in 2009.
