Sebastián Yatra Earns 7th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “TBT,” Featuring Rauw Alejandro & Manuel Turizo

Sebastián Yatra reigns supreme…

The 25-year-old Colombian singer/songwriter’s “TBT” single with Rauw Alejandro and Manuel Turizo has risen to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart dated July 4, dethroning the  Black Eyed PeasOzuna and J. Rey Soul’s from their one-week reign with “Mamacita.”

Sebastian Yatra

“I wrote this song over a year ago with Sech in Miami,” says Yatra. “We started writing a story based on personal situations we were both going through over a guitar riff. It’s a reggaetóntune with strong pop elements co-produced by the XAXO brothers with Andrés Torres and Mauricio Rengifo. It also has its romantic touch, which is something I vibrate with strongly.”

Yatra, Alejandro and Turizo reach the summit in the song’s 14th week thanks to its 12.42 million in audience impressions (up 7 percent) earned in the week ending June 28, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

“Its journey to the top is a reflection of how the song has been getting into people little by little,” Yatra continues. “It’s also a reflection of the perseverance of my team at Universal. Nowadays it is very easy to release a song and get lost in so many things — the news, our daily routines. We’ve done a nice job with ‘TBT.’”

It’s the first No. 1 for Alejandro, who began his Latin Airplaycareer a little over a year ago when he secured his first chart entry with “Luz Apaga,” with Ozuna and Lyanno (No. 48 peak, Feb. 16, 2019-dated survey).

“I was super happy to work with Manuel Turizo and Rauw Alejandro, who are both on fire these days,” Yatra adds. “They are not only extremely talented, but both have big hearts. So happy to be next to Rauw as he gets his first No. 1 on Latin Airplay. Without a doubt he’s one of the few newcomers who will leave a mark. I’m such a fan of him, his versatility and ability to create.”

As “TBT” hits No. 1 on the Latin Airplay chart, Yatra nabs his seventh leader. His first No. 1 dates back to when “Robarte Un Beso,” with Carlos Vives, ruled for one week in January 2018.

Turizo, meanwhile secures his second No. 1.

Elsewhere on the Latin charts, “TBT” remains atop the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart for a second week, and moves into the top 20 on Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data.

Alejandro joins a group of other eight acts who have claimed their first No. 1 in 2020:

Rosario Dawson to Co-Host Rock the Vote’s Democracy Summer Campaign Virtual Concert

Rosario Dawson is ready to rock the vote…

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican and Cuban American actress and activist will co-host Rock the Vote’s Democracy Summer campaign kick-off on Thursday, June 18, a two-hour virtual concert co-headlined by Katy Perry and Black Eyed Peas.

Rosario Dawson

Co-hosted by Dawson and Logan Browning with Chuck D and Eve, the event will stream live beginning at 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT on democracysummer.org, and Democracy Summer’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

Ne-YoBig FreediaLucy HaleAmara La NegraSaweetie, Sklyar Astin, Max, Leslie Grace, Dove Cameron, Sofia CarsonRich Brian and Michael K. Williams are among those slated to appear remotely.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro will make appearances.

“I’m excited to be a part of this kickoff to Democracy Summer 2020 with so many amazing talents, activists and speakers,” says Perry. “The young people of America are speaking loud and clear on the streets and online, and come November, it will be more important than ever to fight for justice and equality, and against systemic racism, with our ballots.”

“The young people are engaged. Their voices are loud and getting louder. The world is watching. And we need to vote,” agrees Chuck D, an early and consistent supporter of Rock the Vote, which was founded in 1990 by Virgin Records America co-chairman Jeff Ayeroff primarily to increase voter turnout among young adults.

“We are seeing the urgency for change in America happening in real time. This is the moment for us to use the most important tool on the planet to fight for that change…our right to vote,” says Ne-Yo. “Our democracy needs our voices. Voting is the moment to be the voice for injustice and for equality. But most importantly, to be the voice for humanity. We cannot let each other down in the local elections or on Nov. 3.”

Produced by BWG Live and in partnership with Voto Latino FoundationWhen We All Vote and March For Our Lives, the concert marks not only the first live-streamed event for the Rock the Vote, but also its first large-scale summer activation.

In previous years the organization amped up in the fall before a Presidential election and typically staged a live event. Both pivots are a direct result of Covid-19.

“One of the realities is coronavirus derailed the momentum that is required in a major election cycle,” Rock the Vote president Carolyn DeWitt tells Billboard. “A few months ago we began seeing how the restrictions were affecting young people in particular, by moving them off college campuses and disrupting graduations and proms,” she says. “Our effort is really about building that momentum back up.”

With some 4 million young people turning 18 this year and innumerable issues at stake, the goal of Democracy Summer is to bring 200,000 new voters to the polls in November when Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden challenges Donald Trump, as well as myriad primary and local elections throughout the summer and fall. Those interested in the event are encouraged to register at the Democracy Summer web site to get the latest details and lineup updates, although preregistration isn’t required to tune in. Viewers can go to Rock the Vote’s website to register to vote.

The murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer and the swell of support around the Black Lives Matter movement also has catalyzed Thursday’s event. As protesters around the country have taken to the streets, Rock the Vote registered 107,000 new voters through its platforms and gained more than 25,000 new Instagram followers during the week of June 1, DeWitt says—numbers that dwarf those of a typical week.

“With what we’ve seen over the last couple weeks, the effort around Democracy Summer has become even more important. It’s not just the virus, it’s bigger than the economy standing still. The world feels like it’s on the brink of chaos and yet this moment around Black Lives Matter is bigger than that,” DeWitt says. “Frankly speaking, a big part of that is people are exercising their rights in a democracy. Young people are looking for things they can do and actions they can take in order to create change. We want to make sure we’re continuing to sustain that fire and passion into November, and make sure young people know the power of their votes and create the change they want to see.”

The live stream will include opportunities for viewers to donate to black-led and -focused organizations including the Community Justice Action Fund and National Action Network.

“Now, more than ever, voting is key for long-term change,” Black Eyed Peas said in a statement. “The youth vote is going to decide the future of America. It’s not just our duty but our honor to spread the word in an election year.”

“The diversity of America is what makes it great, and it is also what makes it our country,” says La Negra. “I am Dominican proudly, yet I am a black woman always. I matter. You matter. And together, we will always matter!”

“The need for young people to get out and vote has never been more important,” says Participant CEO David Linde. “We are proud to be working with Rock the Vote in making that need a reality and by using the inspiring, powerful message of Rep. John Lewis to make good trouble.”

Rock the Vote is planning additional Democracy Summer activations throughout the summer including on the Fourth of July and on August 6, the anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

Ozuna Earns 22nd Top 10 Hit on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart with Black Eyed Peas-Collab “Mamacita”

Ozuna’s Hot streak continues…

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap singer has earned his 22nd Top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart (dated June 6) as his collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas, “Mamacita,” rises 17-7.

Ozuna

“Mamacita” samples Madonna’s 1987 hit single “La Isla Bonita,” which reached No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Mamacita” rises on the strength of airplay and streaming activity: it logged 8 million in audience impressions (up 20%), earned in the week ending May 31, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It also pushes 10-5 on the Latin Airplay chart.

Meanwhile, “Mamacita” drew 2.4 million in U.S. streams in the week ending May 28.

Fergie to Host Fox’s New Singing Competition “The Four: Battle for Stardom”

It’s a case of Connect Four for Fergie

The 42-year-old part-Mexican American singer and Black Eyed Peas member will host Fox’s new primetime singing competition show The Four: Battle for Stardom, the six-episode series that will air at 8:00 pm Thursdays beginning January 4.

Fergie

“This is a unique and modern show format that I believe will set the standard for the next generation of singing competition series on TV,” said Fergie, who has hosted the Los Angeles segments of ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve for the past few years. “I am looking forward to being by the contestants’ sides during what could be the most important performances of their lives. Along with these amazing panelists whom I know and love, I hope my experiences as a solo artist and as a member of the Black Eyed Peas can help guide them in their quest to make it in the music industry.”

Created by Armoza Formats and produced by ITV Entertainment in association with Armoza, The Four also features expert panelists Sean “Diddy” Combs, DJ Khaled, singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor and record label exec Charlie Walk.

The format works backwards from typical competition shows: Four finalists, chosen from their auditions, will try to defend their coveted spots on the stage, as they are challenged by new singers determined to replace them. Each week, if any of the four are outperformed as determined by a panel of judges, they’ll go home and their challengers will take their place.

The singer who is the last standing at the end of the competition will see the panel of industry experts become key players on their team. The elite group will then guide the winner’s career to help make him or her a breakout star.

“Fergie is a genuine superstar,” said Rob Wade, President of Alternative Programming and Specials at Fox Broadcasting Company. “She’s fierce, she’s a force in her own right, and she knows exactly what these singers are going through. So who better than her to help guide them as they fight their way to the finish?”

The Four will beat to air ABC’s reboot of former Fox mega hit American Idol, which will launch in March and air on Sundays. Fox’s response to Idol 2.0 also will air while NBC’s rival singing competition The Voice is on hiatus, on one of the nights the original aired on Fox toward the end of its run.
