Shakira Releases Heartbreaking Video for New Bachata Single “Monotonía,” Featuring Ozuna

Shakira is addressing her recent heartbreak…

The 45-year-old Colombian superstar has joined voices with Ozuna for the new Spanish single “Monotonía,” a bachata track released on Wednesday, October 19.

Marking the first collaboration between Shakira and Ozuna, “Monotonía” follows the singer-songwriter’s Latin Airplay chart-topping song “Te Felicito” with Rauw Alejandro, where she calls out her significant other and congratulates them on a stellar performance making her believe he truly loved her.

 

In the music video — which Shakira co-directed with longtime collaborator Jaume de la Iguana — she has an encounter with the ex at a grocery store where he blows up her chest and her heart is ejected from her body. She then runs around with her beating heart in hand until she hands it over to Ozuna, who takes it from her and puts it in a safe box.

 

“Monotonía” and “Te Felicito” follow Shakira’s public breakup from longtime partner, and the father of her two children, soccer star Gerard Piqué.

In an interview with Elle, she addressed the split, calling this moment one of the “most difficult” of her life.

“I’ve remained quiet and just tried to process it all. Um, and yeah, it’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation. And so it’s been tough not only for me, but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult.”

Romeo Santos is expanding his formula…

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer-songwriter, known as The King of Bachata, has released this latest album Fórmula Vol. 3.

Romeo SantosSantos, the lead member and vocalist of Aventura who has pushed the genre to new sonic boundaries and commercial heights over the course of his solo career, has grounded the majority of the album’s 21 tracks in the style he’s made a home.

Yet Santos also isn’t content to keep reinventing his respective wheel, so Fórmula Vol. 3 offers glimpses of tropical music (“Sexo Con Ropa”), merengue (“15,500 Noches,” with several luminaries of the style) and flamenco (“El Pañuelo,” with current torch-bearer Rosalía).

The album even finds room for a Justin Timberlake-assisted pop crossover, “Sin Fin,” that could bring a towering veteran like Santos to a whole new audience.

Romeo Santos is (n)syncing up with a pop icon…

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican-American singer, known as the King of Bachata, is joining voices with Justin Timberlake for the new single “Sin Fin.”

Romeo SantosSantos offered a sneak peek at the upcoming collaboration, dropping a 15-second preview of their highly anticipated single via social media on Monday.

The preview of the track from Santos’ Formula, Vol. 3 album, due September 1, spotlights JT’s vocals, as he sings, “You already know this love is all your, baby/ So take it/ We’ve been here before, it’s strong enough to save us, oh baby,” over what appears to be black and white footage from the song’s video. The various set-ups range from JT and Santos laughing and goofing around on set to Santos dancing with a woman and taking a ride in his expensive car.

The song will appear on an album that also boasts a collaboration with Rosalía and which will focus not on reggaetón, trap or rap, but on bachata, the traditional, guitar-based Dominican heartbreak music that Santos has made his calling card.

“If I do an urban song, it could be massive. I don’t want it to be a distraction,” Santos recently told Billboard in a cover story. “You have these amazing artists who right now are in their prime offering urban music. I wanted to make a difference and speak for my genre. Bachata needs me. I needed to put on my Superman cape for my culture.”

Santos, a longtime JT fan, had never met the “Sexy Back” singer and they had few connections before working together. In fact, just feeling out Justin’s interest in recording a song took nearly a year, but Santos was determined to make it happen.

“Ninety-nine percent of my records are written and produced by me,” he said. “But on Aventura’s first album, I took ‘Gone’ by *NSYNC and rewrote and translated it to Spanish,” he added, referring to an all-acoustic cover from his group’s 2002 album, We Broke the Rules. “It’s crazy how things line up. That was history in the making without realizing it.”

Once the song was in the works, however, it came together quickly, with Santos recruiting longtime collaborator Rico Love and producer Danja (who, along with Timbaland, co-produced all of Timberlake’s 2006 album, FutureSexLoveSounds) to come up with “Sin Fin.”

“He said, ‘I dig this.’ What I respect about JT is he not only recorded his vocals but he turned that song that now I feel was at 30% into something completely different for the better,” said Santos. “He changed the melody, the lyrics; he wrote, he produced. There was a moment where I was at the studio and he was directing my guitarist. To me, that was surreal: JT is producing a bachata.”

Romeo Santos will be sharing his winning Formula in less than a month…

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican-American singer, known as the King of Bachata, has announced plans to release his latest album Formula Vol 3. On September 1.

Romeo SantosSantos revealed the release date of his new album with a 14-second teaser on social media on Monday, August 15.

The video featured a crown spinning at the guitar’s sound of what could be his next single as his voice says: “You don’t forget Romeo! Y yo, ni te recuerdo .”

The caption of the Instagram post read, “9.1.2022 FV3,” the date for the album’s release.

The new album comes eight years after Santos released Vol. 2 in 2014. Following the LP’s release, it became the best-selling Latin album to move 100,000 copies in the first week, making it the best debut for a Latin album since teen pop group RBD’s Celestial in 2006. Since the last Formula album in 2014, Santos has released Golden (2017) and Utopia (2019).

Throughout his career, Santos — also the leader of bachata supergroup Aventura — has scored a total of 43 entries on the Hot Latin Songs chart, the fourth-most among tropical acts, trailing Marc Anthony’s 60, Gilberto Santa Rosa’s 48 entries, and Victor Manuelle, who’s had a total of 47.

Santos has had a total of seven No. 1s — including his highest charting title at No. 1, “Odio,” feat. Drake, which topped the list for 13 weeks — making him the third-most among tropical acts, right behind Gloria Estefan, who has 15, and Anthony’s eight entries.

Additionally, Santos has scored 20 total top 10s, tying Juan Luis Guerra for the third-most among Tropical acts, behind Anthony and Estefan.

Santos is confirmed for this year’s Billboard Latin Music Week, set to take place September 26-30 at the Faena Forum in Miami. Other confirmed artists to speak at the conference include Camilo, Ivy Queen, Chayanne, Nicky Jam, Eslabon Armado, Bizarrap, Blessd, Ovy on the Drums, Luis R. Maria Becerra Earns First No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with Prince Royce-Collab “Te Espero”

It’s a special first for Maria Becerra…

The 22-year-old Argentine singer and former YouTuber has notched her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart as “Te Espero,” her collaboration with Prince Royce, rises 3-1 on the June 25-dated ranking.

Maria Becerra, Prince Royce, Te Espero“Te Espero” reaches the top of the all-genre tally, concurrent with its third week at No. 1 on the Tropical Airplay chart, due in part to a 19% gain in audience impressions, to 10.5 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 19, according to Luminate.

Released via Sony Music Latin on March 3, the song rises to No. 1 in its 15th week on the list and displaces another Sony Music Latin title from the top spot as Carlos Vives and Camilo’s “Baloncito Viejo” falls 1-7 after its one-week lead.

Further, “Te Espero” becomes the sixth song to reach the summit in 15 weeks or more in 2022.

Royce, meanwhile, captures his 15th hit on Latin Airplay, the third-most among tropical acts, trailing only Romeo Santos’ 19 No. 1s and Vives’ 16 champs. J Balvin continues at the helm with 35 leaders.

The surge in “Te Espero” plays also gives the tune a corresponding ascent on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs chart, which measures airplay, streaming data, and digital sales.

There, the bachata hit rises 38-36, after its No. 26 peak on the May 14-dated survey.

Manuel Turizo is embracing a new song on his latest single…

The 22-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer has releases the track “La Bachata” via La Industria Inc. and Sony Music Latin.

Manuel TurizoTurizo’s new single is a captivating bachata track featuring a touch of urban beats and weeping string melodies a la Aventura in the 2000s.

In the new music video for “La Bachata,” Turizo is heartbroken and literally “gritando a los cuatro vientos.”

Disappointed in love, Turizo sings about an ex who hurt him, and yet he still misses her. In the music video, he’s seen listening to his song on a portable CD player while he performs it in a lonely field.

At the ending, he hints that his next single could possibly be titles “Extasis.”

Las Villa Release Bachata-fied New Single “La Carta”

Las Villa are switching up their sound again…

The Colombian duo, which has recorded trap, perreo and pop music, is now experimenting with bachata for the new single “La Carta.”

Las Villa, comprised of twins Laura and Lucia, present their new single composed by themselves alongside Vibarco, La Pardo, and Casta (who also produced the track).

“La Carta” fuses traditional bachata rhythms with edgy urbano beats, and tells the story of a letter where an ex-partner claims they have changed, but Las Villa believes not for the best. “Now I see you using Balenciaga when a year ago you didn’t care about that/ You’re not happy and soon you’ll realize that your movie will end,” the chorus goes.

“We came to the studio with the idea that we wanted to do a bachata,” the duo expressed in a statement. “It was clear to us that day that we wanted to do something different. The song ends up being about someone who changed from heaven to earth, overnight, and who you used to know and had a very strong bond with, and suddenly that person changes. Their tastes have changed, you don’t recognize them anymore, they now like fine and expensive things, and have completely turned their back on you and on all their values, changing all the fundamentals of life for superficial things.”

In the colorful music video, directed by Sergio de Avila and Jerome Lehoucq, the two sisters are shopping at a local clothing store and gossiping around the streets of Colombia.

Prince Royce to Launch 11-Date “Classic Tour” Across U.S.

Prince Royce is embracing his classics…

The 32-year-old Dominica American bachata star has announced an upcoming 11-date “greatest hits” trek that he’s called the Classic Tour.

Prince RoyceAs part of the trek, Royce will not only serenade fans with the songs that catapulted his career, but he’ll also celebrate his decade-long trajectory.

“I am thrilled to be able to share the Classic Tour with all of my fans who have been there for me unconditionally since the very beginning of my career,” said Price Royce in a statement. “I am still here thanks to you all and this tour is for you. I’m filled with gratefulness.”

Produced by Loud and Live, the 11-date tour will kick off September 16 in Miami and take Royce across the U.S., visiting major markets like Chicago, New York and Los Angeles before wrapping up in Santa Barbara, Calif., in October. This will his first tour since the pandemic shutdown, which halted his Alter Ego Tour in March 2020.

Most recently, Royce and Maria Becerra scored a top 10 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart with their collaboration “Te Espero.”

For the Argentine artist, the track marked her first top 10 on the tally. Meanwhile, for Royce, it added a 30th top 10 his Tropical Airplay chart account.

The romantic bachata samples British rock band Cutting Crew’s “(I Just) Died in Your Arms” — a No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1987 — and was produced by D’lesly “Dice” Lora and Royce, and written by Royce alongside Becerra, Nelsen and Bobby Sierra.

Romeo Santos’ “Sin Huellas” Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart

Romeo Santos has raced back to the top of the charts…

The 40-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer has notched his 20th No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart as his latest single, “Sus Huellas,” debuts atop the list dated February 26.

It’s just the fourth song to debut at No. 1 in the last five years on Latin Airplay, following Ozuna’s “La Funka” (2021), Lunay, Ozuna and Anuel AA’s “Aventura” (2019) and Santos’ own “Heroe Favorito” (2017).

On Latin Airplay, “Sus Huellas” leads with 9.1 million in audience impressions earned in the week ending February 20, according to MRC Data.

The song was released February 14, the first day of the tracking week, to become the most played song among Latin stations.

It dethrones Sebastian Yatra’s “Tacones Rojos” after its one week in charge.

With 20 total leaders on his account, Santos ties with Wisin, and concurrently extends his record for the most No. 1s among tropical acts. Here’s a recap of the leaderboard on Latin Airplay:

The No. 1 arrival of “Sin Huellas” on Latin Airplay also marks a new triumph for Santos.

He last took over the chart with a No. 1 debut almost five years ago, when “Heroe Favorito” bowed atop the 50-deep tally in 2017.

In between, he’s placed five other No. 1 hits, including the four-week champ “Imitadora” in July 2017.

“Sin Huellas” also becomes Santos’ first No. 1 as a solo act, without an unaccompanied artist, since “Centavito” ruled for one week in December 2018.

As on Latin Airplay, “Sus Huellas” is Santos’ first No. 1 debut on Tropical Airplay since 2017 among a collection of 16 total wins, including two 15-week rulers (“Centavito” in 2018 and “La Mejor Versión de Mi,” with Natti Natasha, in 2019).

Beyond its Latin Airplay and Tropical Airplay coronations, “Sus Huellas” bows at No. 21 on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs chart (a blend of airplay, digital sales, and streaming data), Santos’ highest start there since “Aullando,” with Wisin & Yandel, arrived at No. 19 in 2019.

The song generated 1.61 million streams in the U.S. in the week ending February 17, after only four days of tracking. It concurrently sold a little under 1,000 downloads, enough for a No. 4 start on Latin Digital Song Sales.
