In the music video, both Rochy and Anuel are performing the song at a teteo in a barrio on the Caribbean island.

Anuel AA Earns Fourth No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums Chart with “Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren”

Make that for in a row for Anuel AA.

The 29-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer has collected his fourth straight, and total, No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart as Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren debuts at No. 1 on the December 11-dated survey.

Anuel AA

Anuel’s third studio album – a follow up to Los Dioses, with Ozuna, which also had a No. 1 debut (February 6-dated list) – is his second leader of 2021.

Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren opened with 22,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending December 2, according to MRC Data. Most of that sum (20,500) was driven by streaming activity, representing 30.2 million on-demand streams of the set’s 16 tracks, while a little over 1,000 units arrive from traditional album sales.  The rest comprises track equivalent album units. (One unit equals one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams for a song on the album.)

Las Leyendas is Anuel’s fourth leader in as many appearances on the all-Latin genre tally.

His first chart success arrived in July 2018 when album debut Real Hasta La Muerte bowed at No. 1 and held at the summit for two consecutive weeks (a 135-week run).

Emmanuel, which remains at No. 20 on the current ranking, concurrently opened at No. 1 less than a year later (June 13, 2020-dated chart).

Las Leyendas, released via his own label Real Hasta La Muerte, congregates a group of producers including Chris Jeday, Gaby Music, Tainy, Nelly El Arma Secreta,” and Ovy on The Drums.

It likewise earns Anuel his fourth No. 1 on Latin Rhythm Albums among six entries. The set concurrently gifts Anuel his fourth entry on the all-genre Billboard 200, starting at No. 30.

Nine Leyendas cuts debut on the all-metric (airplay, digital sales, streaming data) Hot Latin Songs chart. However, the set was preceded by two songs: “Dictadura” (No. 12 debut and peak, Nov. 13) and “Leyenda” (No. 21 debut and peak, Nov. 27).

In total, Anuel places 12 titles on the current survey (including “Ley Seca,” with Jhay Cortez), the most since his pair-up with Ozuna on Los Dioses placed 13 simultaneous tracks (February 6-dated tally).

Here’s a recap of all Anuel’s titles on Hot Latin Songs (11 belonging to Leyendas):

No. 12, “Súbelo” (Greatest Gainer/ Airplay)

Anuel AA Teams Up with Myke Towers & Jhay Cortez to Release New Single “Súbelo”

Anuel AA is raising his (baseball) game…

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer has joined voices with Myke Towers and Jhay Cortez to release the new single “Súbelo.”

Anuel AA

On new single, Anuel AA and his fellow Puerto Rican artists bond over baseball.

As Anuel explains in a press release for the kinetic collaboration — which features MLB greats Robinson Cano, Miguel Rojas and Guillermo Heredia in its music video — “I truly want my fans to know that the concept overall is to inspire when we fall, we get back up again, and everything is possible.”

For an artist like Anuel who’s been through so much and remains a vital part of Latin urban music, the thematic comparison works well.

Anuel AA Releases New Single “Dictadura”

Anuel AA is back with new music…

Serving as a preview of his upcoming album, the 28-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer has released his new single “Dictadura.”

Anuel AA

Produced by Subelo Neo and Machael, and co-written by Anuel and Mora, the bouncy, head-bobbing reggaeton track will be included on his third LP, Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren.

The track and music video, directed by Anuel, chronicles a love and basketball story, which finds the singer-songwriter at his peak: dating the girl of his dreams (who may or may not break his heart) and getting drafted into the NBA in 1984.

“For a year, my fans have been waiting for me to release more music and I have been teasing a new album, and we are finally here,” the chart-topping artist said in a statement. “‘Dictaudura’s’ video is one of many to come that I direct and I wanted the plot to guide my fans through a concept storyboard for my upcoming album Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren. I can’t wait for them to see what is to come, but I want them to be inspired by the legends concept the way they have influenced my career and story.”

“Dictadura” follows Anuel’s latest release “23 Preguntas,” in which he asks Colombian singer and ex-girlfriend Karol G a set of questions. In the slow-tempo trap-infused reggaeton track, he bares his heart and soul in a bid to win Karol back. “23 Preguntas” dropped on what would have marked the former couple’s third anniversary.

Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren becomes Anuel’s third solo project after teaming up with Ozuna on the chart-topping Los Dioses — the collaborative effort peaked at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Latin Albums chart (dated February 5).

His debut album Real Hasta La Muerte, released in 2018, and his 2020 sophomore set Emmanuel also crowned the survey.

Tainy Becomes First Person to Spend 100 Weeks Atop Any Billboard Producers Charts

Tainy is making Billboard history…

The 32-year-old Puerto Rican record producer and songwriter has entered the history books as the first person to spend 100 weeks at No. 1 on any of Billboard‘s producers charts.

Tainy

The multi-hyphenate artist (real name: Marco Masis) spends a record-extending 100th week at No. 1 on the Latin Producers survey dated October 9, thanks to his production on seven tracks on the latest Hot Latin Songs chart.

Billboard launched all-genre Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts in June 2019, as well as those for country, rock & alternative, R&B/Hip-Hop, R&B, rap, Latin, Christian, gospel and dance/electronic; alternative and hard rock joined in June 2020.

“This milestone is something crazy to me, to see that we actually made it to 100 weeks,” Tainy tells Billboard. “At the end of the day, I am just truly grateful to get to wake up every day and do what I love. It’s amazing to be a part of such an important list with all these talented producers that are working at such high levels making incredible music and pushing our culture forward globally.”

Here’s a recap of Tainy’s entries on the latest Hot Latin Songs chart.

Rank, Artist Billing, Title (co-producers in addition to Tainy)
No. 4, Bad Bunny, “Yonaguni” (Smash David, Byrd, FinesseGTB)
No. 5, Bad Bunny & Jhay Cortez, “Dákiti” (Mora)
No. 6, J Balvin & Skrillex, “In Da Getto” (Skrillex)
No. 8, Kali Uchis, “Telepatía” (Manuel Lara, Albert Hype)
No. 14, Jhay Cortez & Anuel AA, “Ley Seca”
No. 30, J Balvin & Sech, “Una Nota” (Sky Rompiendo)
No. 44, Tainy x Yandel, “Deja Vu”

Almost exactly a year ago, Tainy became the first to log 50 weeks atop a producers chart, when he reached the milestone atop Latin Producers.

Of Tainy’s 100 weeks spent at No. 1 on Latin Producers, he’s ruled the past 41 frames consecutively, encompassing every chart week of 2021 so far.

Of the chart’s 120 total weeks to-date, Subelo Neo is the only other name to log double-digit weeks at No. 1, with 10 in March-May 2020. Over the chart’s existence, Tainy is the only producer to have spent every week on the survey. His collaborator Sky Rompiendo follows with 99 weeks, ranking at No. 7 this week.

Tainy scored his first production credit on Hot Latin Songs in 2006, with Tito “El Bambino” El Patron‘s “Caile,” which reached No. 2. He followed that year with his first No. 1, Wisin & Yandel‘s “Pam Pam.” He’s since added five more leaders, all since 2019: Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Ozuna and J Balvin‘s “China“; J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny and Tainy’s “Un Dia (One Day)“; Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez‘s “Dákiti“; Kali Uchis‘ “Telepatía“; and Bad Bunny’s “Yonaguni.”

Tainy has also produced three top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100: Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin’s “I Like It” (No. 1, one week, 2018), “Dákiti” (No. 5, 2020) and “Yonaguni” (No. 10, 2021).

Tainy concurrently places at No. 2 on the Latin Songwriters chart, thanks to his writing credits on “Yonaguni,” “Dákiti,” “In Da Getto,” “Telepatía,” “Ley Seca,” “Una Nota” and “Deja Vu.” He’s spent 17 weeks atop the tally, the second-most after frequent collaborator Bad Bunny (65).

Meanwhile, DannyLux adds a second week at No. 1 on Latin Songwriters, powered by his work on Eslabon Armado‘s “Jugaste y Sufri,” which he wrote solo and on which he’s a featured artist, at No. 7.

The weekly Latin Songwriters and Latin Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot Latin Songs chart. As with Billboard’s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).

J Balvin Earns Fourth No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums Chart with “Jose”

Make that four chart-topping albums for J Balvin

The 36-year-old Colombian singer has notched his fourth No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart as Jose debuts atop the September 25-dated tally.

J Balvin

The set, released on September 10 via Sueños Globales/Universal Music Latino/UMLE, starts with 27,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week September 16, according to MRC Data.

Jose marks J Balvin’s sixth visit to the all-Latin genre Top Latin Albums chart, all of which have hit the top 10.

The rhythmic singer-songwriter first earned a No. 10 high with La Familia, his first studio album. A trio of No. 1s followed: Energía in 2016, two-week ruler Vibras (2018) and Oasis, with Bad Bunny, the eight-week leader starting July 2019. Colores, his fifth studio album and immediate predecessor to Jose, reached a No. 2 high in April 2020.

As Jose starts with 27,000 overall units, it becomes the second-largest debut week in 2021 after Anuel & Ozuna’s Los Dioses (29,000 in its opening week). In terms of largest week overall this year, Bad Bunny’s El Último Tour del Mundo continues at the helm with 38,000 units.

The 27,000-unit arrival for Jose easily marks Balvin’s best week, by units earned, for a solo album. His previous best week came through Colores‘ first full tracking week on the chart, when it earned 24,000 units on the April 4, 2020-dated chart. (Among all of Balvin’s albums, Oasis, his collaborative effort with Bad Bunny, holds his best week — with its 36,000 unit start on the July 13, 2019-dated chart.)

Out of Jose’s 27,000 units, 25,000 stem from streaming activity which equates to 33.8 million U.S. streams of the set’s tracks. The remainder 2,000-unit sum derives from album sales and track equivalent album units.

As Jose arrives, five of the set’s 24 tracks debut on Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data. Let’s take a look:

No. 11, “Una Nota,” with Sech
No. 33, “Te Acuerdas de Mi,” with Yandel
No. 46, “La Venganza,” with Jhay Cortez
No. 48, “Perra,” with Tokischa
No. 49, “Billetes de 100,” with Myke Towers

Eight other tracks preceded the album on the all-metric chart: “Un Día (One Day)” (No. 1 peak and five-time ruler in 2020), “Otra Noche Sin Ti” (No. 5 peak, May 2021), “7 de Mayo” (No. 48 debut and peak (May 22-dated list), “Qué Más Pues?” (No. 14 peak, July 310-dated survey), “Otro Fili” (No. 26 debut and peak (June 26-dated chart), “Poblado (remix),” (No. 11 debut and peak, July 3), “In Da Getto” (peaks at No. 5 on the current chart), “Que Locura” (No. 41 debut and peak, August 28).

Jose concurrently starts at No. 1 on Latin Rhythm Albums and at No. 12 on the overall Billboard 200 chart, his fifth entry there.

Anuel AA Releases New Single “23 Preguntas,” Dedicated to Ex Karol G

Anuel AA has some questions…

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer has released a new track titles “23 Preguntas,” in which he asks ex-girlfriend and singer Karol G a set of questions.

Anuel AA

In the slow-tempo trap-infused reggaeton track, Anuel AA bares his heart and soul in a bid to win Karol back. “I have 23 questions to ask you/ Just let me know if you have time to respond to me,” he kicks off the track.

Throughout the song, he asks, “So many fights that you want to erase me/Tell me if you don’t want to listen to me?,” ”Tell me if it doesn’t feel like the first time?/ Instead of finishing, let’s start again,” and “Do you love me or is your love up for sale?” “Todo de Ti” singer Rauw Alejandro also makes a cameo toward the ending of the track, repeatedly saying, “Tell me if you’re staying/ Tell me, tell me if you’re leaving.”

“23 Preguntas” officially dropped on what would have marked the former couple’s third anniversary. “I really like this song, it means a lot to me!” he expressed on his social media. “August 23rd is a date that signifies a lot to me. I hope you like it.”

Karol and Anuel AA first met in 2018 on the set of their “Culpables” music video. The pair officially announced they were dating on Anuel AA’s 26th birthday, Nov. 26, 2018. They later sealed the deal with a second collaboration, “Secreto,” out Jan. 15, 2019, in which they documented their relationship in a homemade music video. The couple was also engaged.

On April 20, 2021, the two artists revealed that they have decided to end their relationship.

“The truth is that we’re not together,” Anuel said during an Instagram Live. “The times that people have seen us together is because we still love each other. We tried to recover what was lost but we took our different paths. May God bless her and that she continues to achieve her dreams and goals.” The Puerto Rican trap artist also addressed any rumors about infidelity. “There’s no negativity between us,” he assured. “We have a great relationship.”

On her Instagram stories, Karol G stated: “For many years we tried to keep our relationship away from social media to take care of it.” They eventually decided to make their love story public because they wanted to be transparent with fans.

“The incredible things that happened to us as people and artists was a blessing and the result of a beautiful love that arrived in our lives when we most needed it,” the Colombian artist wrote. “I love you, Emmanuel, my gratitude towards you, your family, and everything we lived, grew, and learned together is infinite.”

Despite their breakup, it appears as though the couple may still have feelings for each other.

At the recent 2021 Baja Beach Fest in Mexico, where both artists performed, Anuel AA asked fans to sing “Bubalu” very loud because “if Karol G hears it, she might get back with me.” During her performance, Karol also had a heartfelt moment and shed some tears when she sang “Ocean,” the love ballad she wrote and dedicated to Anuel AA.

The pair has also been spotted together multiple times, and they continue to support each other’s careers on social media.
