Julieta Venegas to Take Part in Soda Stereo’s Gracias Totales Tour

The 49-year-old Mexican American singer and Grammy winner will serve as a special guest on Soda Stereo bassist Zeta Bosio and drummer Charly Alberti’s Gracias Totales tour, which will be making stops in New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Houston.

Soda Stereo and their guests will take the stage to sing some of the band’s greatest hits and honor the legacy of late frontman Gustavo Cerati.

In addition to Venegas, other special guests include Soda Stereo’s first vocalist and the Cerati’s great friend Richard Coleman; Aterciopelados’ Andrea Echeverri; Draco Rosa; and Gustavo Santaolalla. 

More than 10 years after Cerati last hit the stage at Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena in 2007, Soda Stereo’s members – joined by their special guests via in-person or audiovisual format – will perform some of their timeless hits, like “De Musica Ligera,” “Persiana Americana,” “Tratame Suavemente” and more.

Coleman, Draco, Santaolalla and Venegas will join Zeta and Charly at their shows in New York and Miami. Echeverri will then take over Venegas’ spot at the Los Angeles and Houston shows.

Joining via video are Rubén Albarránfrom Café Tacvba; Cerati’s son Benito; Babasonicos’ Adrián Dárgelos; Los Tresand Pettinellis’ Álvaro Henríquez; Juanes; Mon Laferte; León Larregui; Fernando Ruiz Díazfrom Catupecu Machu; and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. 

The tour, presented by Loud and Live and Move Concerts, will honor the late Argentine frontman and guitarist Gustavo Cerati, who died on September 4, 2014, after suffering a stroke. According to an official statement, technology will allow Cerati’s voice and image to be part of the show.

The Gracias Totales tour marks Soda Stereo’s farewell trek. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.

Aterciopelados Working on First Studio Album in Seven Years

Aterciopelados is readying for a comeback…

The Latin alternative rock band, led by Andrea Echeverri and Héctor Buitrago, is hard at work on their first studio album since 2008’s Rio, Buitrago tells Billboard.

“We have been playing some new songs on tour and are at work on more,” says Buitrago.

Aterciopelados plans to release the album at the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017.

Meanwhile, a DVD by Buitrago and Echeverri will be out in February on Sony Music. It will feature versions of well known Aterciopelados songs recorded live in Bogota with guest artists including Zoé singer León Larregui and Spanish fusionist Macaco.

Echeverri and Buitrago reunited in 2014 to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Aterciopelados after working respective solo projects; the band toured the U.S. in October.

Buitrago has also written the music for Another Word For Beauty, a play by Motorcycle Dairies screenwriter José Rivera.

The play, which will feature a live band, centers on the real-life story of contestants in an inmates’ beauty contest held at Bogota’s Buen Pastor women’s prison in Colombia.

Another Word for Beauty opens at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre on January 16.

Aterciopelados Touring the U.S. for the First Time in Three Years

Aterciopelados is heading north of the border…

The Colombian alternative rock band, comprised of Andrea Echeverri and Héctor Buitrago, are touring the United States for the first time in three years.

The tour kicked off on Thursday, October 1, at the House of Blues in San Diego.

Aterciopleados will also appear at L.A.’s Supersonico Festival (October 3).

The tour includes dates in Oakland (October 4), Tucson (October 7), and Atlanta (October 10), and wraps up at the Latin American Festival in Charlotte, NC.

Echeverri and Buitrago will be performing what amounts to a career respective of their work together and from each of their solo projects, which means that the shows will be packed with people singing along as they remember episodes form their youth.

Aterciopelados has received numerous awards, including the Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Album in 2007, for Oye.
