Espinoza Hosting Simon Cowell & Univision’s Latin Boy Band Reality Show “La Banda”

It’s all about the boys for Alejandra Espinoza

The 27-year-old Mexican beauty-queen-turned-television-presenter is hosting Simon Cowell and Univision’s La Banda, which “aims to create the world’s ultimate Latino boy band through the largest Latino talent search in U.S. TV history,” according to an announcement from the Spanish-language network.

Alejandra Espinoza

The search for contestants for La Banda, which was developed by Cowell’s Syco Entertainment with Univision Communications and Saban Brands, is officially underway.

Boys (to men) ages 14 and older living in the United States and Puerto Rico are invited to audition online for La Banda. The search for potential Latin stars to compete on the upcoming Univision reality show has begun at LaBandaOficial.com.

“I’m very excited about this show,” says Simon Cowell, a producer on the show. “There is a huge amount of talent out there and La Banda is going to give five guys the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Co-produced with FremantleMedia Latin America, the show is set to premiere in fall 2015 on the Spanish-language network.

Winners of the competition — who will inevitably be compared to the Puerto Rican pop group Menudo, which started in the ’70s with a rotating cast of young singers and disbanded in 2009 — will receive a recording contract with Sony Music Latin and Syco Music, home of One Direction.

To be considered, potential participants should go to LaBandaoficial.com and upload pictures, videos or music files. After creating their online audition profiles, selected contestants will receive a “golden ticket,” which will allow them to participate in a private audition with the production team. The online casting will be followed by casting events across the United States and Puerto Rico in the spring of 2015.

“We are proud to start the search for the next great Latino boy band,” said Alberto Ciurana, president of programming and content for Univision Communications Inc. “There is vast talent in our community, and with La Banda, we will find and launch the next generation of musical superstars.”

Miranda Earns His First-Ever Daytime Emmy Award Nomination for His Bilingual “Sesame Street” Song

Lin-Manuel Miranda

Lin-Manuel Miranda

Miranda received the nod in the Outstanding Original Song category for composing “Rhymes with Mando” for PBS’ long-running Sesame Street program. He’s nominated alongside Luis Santeiro, the bilingual song’s lyricist.

Miranda, who appeared in the show’s season 40 premiere of Sesame Street as real estate agent Freddy Flapman and voiced a lamb in a season 42 episode, starting composing songs for the show in season 42.

from Sesame Street, “I Belong”
from Sofia the First, and “Spring Has Sprung”
from Peter Rabbit.

Meanwhile, Joseph Rosendo could soon be expanding his Daytime Emmy collection. The 67-year-old Cuban American travel journalist and broadcaster, a three-time Daytime Emmy Award-winner, has earned two nominations this year.

Other Latino nominees include El Gordo y la Flaca’s

Machado to Coach Beauty Contestants on Univision’s “Nuestra Belleza Latina” Reality Competition

Alicia Machado is ready to coach the next Latina beauty queen…

The 37-year-old Venezuelan actress/singer and former Miss Universe has signed on to appear on Univision’s Nuestra Belleza Latina reality competition series.

Alicia Machado

Machado and fellow Miss Universe winner Denise Quiñones will mentor the 12 finalists, all talented Latinas from the United States and Puerto Rico, competing to be named Nuestra Belleza Latina.

Unlike previous years, this time around the 12 finalists are already known, said  Univision.

The competitors will move to a luxury mansion where they will live together and compete in different challenges every week, until one finalist is left standing.

The winner will receive an exclusive contract with Univision, $200,000 in cash, a variety of other prizes and a new car.

The weekly series will have all the challenges of a traditional beauty contest, but with the added intrigue of the reality element – what goes on backstage.

This season hidden cameras will follow the drama being woven among the 12 contestants day by day in the mansion.

Along with Machado and Quiñones, Alejandra Espinoza, the first winner of Nuestra Belleza Latina and a host of Sabado Gigante, is joining the show as a presenter.

The Nuestra Belleza Latina reality competition series will begin its broadcast run on Sunday, February 12.
