Oona Chaplin to Star in the Horror Feature “Lullaby”

There’s nothing soothing about Oona Chaplin’s next project…

The 33-year-old part-Chilean actress has been tapped to star in Lullaby, a horror feature from Alcon Entertainment.

John R. Leonetti, who has directed films in the same genre like Annabelle, Wish Upon, and most recently the Netflix original The Silence, has signed on to direct Lullaby, which will begin production in Toronto next month.

Based on the mythological figure Lilith, the film is rooted in folklore and follows a new mother who discovers a lullaby in an ancient book and soon regards the song as a blessing. But her world transforms into a nightmare when the lullaby (“Lilith-Abi” Hebrew for “Lilith, begone”) brings forth the ancient demon Lilith.

Chaplin, the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, has previously appeared on HBO’s Game of Thrones, BBC’s The Crimson Fieldand Taboo.

She’s set to appear in the forthcoming Avatar sequels.

Mauricio Ochmann to Star in Pantelion Films’ Spanish-Language Comedy “Backseat Driver”

Mauricio Ochmann is driving into a new role…

Fresh off the huge Mexican box office opening of his comedy Ya Veremos, the 40-year-old Mexican American actor is joining Mexican comedian Omar Chaparro in the Spanish-language comedy Backseat Driver.

Pantelion Films, 3Pas Studios and Alcon Entertainment are producing the film, which starts production in Mexico next month.

The film also stars Zuria Vega (Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia), Consuelo Duval (Netas Divinas), and Mauricio Barrientos (Qué Culpa Tiene El Niño).

It tells the story of mild mannered Tomás (Ochmann) who flies to Puerto Vallarta to seek revenge against the cabdriver (Chaparro) who has been having an affair with his wife (Vega). The film is a remake of the Filmline-produced Korean-language original Driving With My Wife’s Lover, which was written and directed by Kim Tai-Sik.

The feature is the latest project from Lionsgate label Pantelion and 3Pas Studios’ Eugenio Derbez and Ben Odellfollowing their collaboration on the Overboard redo and How To Be A Latin Lover.

Argentinian filmmaker Ariel Winograd (Sin Hijos) is directing from a screenplay by Paul Fruchbom (The Cool Kids). Derbez and Odell are producing under their 3Pas banner.

“3Pas is committed to supporting amazing creative voices across the U.S. Latinx community and Latin America,” said Odell. “We’re huge fans of Omar and Mauricio. Together, they form an unforgettable comic team under the direction of Ariel Winograd, who has helmed some of the best Spanish-language comedies of the decade.”

Ochmann’s credits include Telemundo’s hit telenovelas El Clon and El Chema.

Warner Bros. Releases Trailer for Michael Peña’s War Drama “12 Strong”

Michael Peña is going strong…

Warner Bros. has released the trailer for the war drama 12 Strong, starring the 41-year-old Mexican American actor.

“The most important thing a man can take into combat is a reason why,” says the trailer. In this case, it’s the thousands of tons of rubble that once was the Twin Towers. “Nineteen men attacked our country,” an officer says. “The 12 of you will be the first ones to fight back.”

The film stars Peña, Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon as three of the U.S. Special Forces dirty dozen who are tasked with going into the rugged mountains of Afghanistan. Once there, they must persuade Northern Alliance General Dostum (Navid Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary.

Along with overcoming mutual distrust and a cultural chasm, the Americans — accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare — must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghan horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners.

Nicolai Fuglsig directs the war drama from Alcon Entertainment, Black Label Media and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Ted Tally and Peter Craig wrote the script based on Doug Stanton’s bestseller.

Warner Bros. will release 12 Strong on January 19.

de Armas to Star in “Blade Runner” Sequel

Ana de Armas is extending her Hollywood Run(ner)…

The 27-year-old Cuban-Spanish actress has joined the cast of Alcon Entertainment’s upcoming Blade Runner sequel.

de Armas’ role has yet been revealed.

The untitled Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel to the 1982 film sees Harrison Ford returning, joined by Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright and Dave Bautista.

It hits theaters October 6, 2017.

Fox to Begin Rolling Out Banderas’ “The 33” in Latin American in August

The anticipation is building for Antonio Banderas’ latest film The 33 in Latin America, especially in Chile and Colombia, where the picture was filmed.

In addition to Banderas, the survival drama also stars Gabriel Byrne, Rodrigo Santoro and Juliette Binoche.

Fox will roll out the film, which was directed by Mexico’s Patricia Riggen, across Latin America starting August 6 in Chile, after a red-carpet premiere on August 2. The premiere is expected to lure a constellation of local talent and officials, the miners as well as the film’s multinational cast and crew.

Alcon Entertainment, which snapped up the film’s distribution rights in North America and most other territories in the world, will release it through Warner Bros. in the U.S. on November 13.

The drama is based on the real events of the 2010 Chilean mining disaster in which 33 miners were trapped underground for months. A multinational effort to rescue the miners gripped a global TV audience for weeks.

Trailer views in Chile alone have numbered 6.6 million, according to 20th Century Fox Chile managing director Hernan Viviano. This is quite a significant tally given Chile’s population of 17 million, he says.

The film debuts August 20 in Colombia, along with the rest of Central America. The rollout continues across the region until October 29 in Brazil.

While most of the cave interior scenes were shot in Colombia, exterior scenes were filmed outside the actual Copiapo mine that fell in.

Varela to Star in the Upcoming “Point Break” Remake

Matias Varela is getting his big Hollywood break…

The 33-year-old Spanish actor, who was born and raised in Sweden, has signed on to appear in Alcon Entertainment’s Point Break remake.

The film is an update of the Kathryn Bigelow-helmed 1991 original to center on an ex-extreme sports athlete turned FBI trainee assigned to go undercover to investigate a string of robberies by a band of fellow adrenaline junkies.

The original starred Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Lori Petty and Gary Busey.

Varela will portray Grommet, an extreme sports athlete and member of Bodhi’s gang of outlaws.

In his native Sweden, Varela earned a Swedish Oscar nod for his turn in the final Snabba Cash film, Livet Deluxe.

His other credits include starring in several episodes of Showtime‘s The Borgias, as Ferdinand II of Naples.
