Gerardo Coronel Earns First No. 1 on Any Billboard Chart as “Que Onda Perdida” Tops Regional Mexican Airplay Chart

The 27-year-old Mexican corrido and alterna movimiento singer/songwriter has earned his first No. 1 on a Billboard chart as “Que Onda Perdida,” with Grupo Firme, rises from No. 2 to lead the Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated July 1.

Gerardo CoronelQue Onda Perdida” lands at the summit with 9 million in audience impressions — a 14% gain from the week prior — earned in the U.S. in the tracking week ending June 22, according to Luminate.

It’s a first win for Coronel on his fourth chart visit. The Michoacán, Mexico-born singer/songwriter has placed a total of four entries on the Regional Mexican Airplay list, dating back to the No. 20-peaking “Te Quiero a Morir” in 2015.

In between, “Te Deseo Lo Mejor,” with Pancho Barraza, reached No. 17 in 2021.

He broke the top 10 barrier, however, in 2023, when “Te Felicito,” his first entry unaccompanied by any other act, rose to No. 7 on the June 17-dated ranking. The song rebounds to No. 7 on the current chart after peaking at No. 5 last week.

Grupo Firme, meanwhile, captures its eighth Regional Mexican Airplay champ among 20 chart entries — 11 of which went top 10. The new No. 1 follows “Alaska,” with Camilo, which crowned the tally for one week last November.

The banda song entered the chart on the April 22-dated tally and arrived in the top 10 in its third week. It has remained in the upper region during a nine-week journey, and ousts Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” from the lead, which drops 1-2 after a four-week domination (down 14% in audience, to 7 million).

Beyond its No. 1 success on Regional Mexican Airplay, “Que Onda Perdida” continues to advance on the Latin Airplay chart, which ranks all songs regardless of genre. There, the tune lifts from No. 6 to its No. 3 high, the highest ranking for both acts, and a first top 10 for Coronel who previously reached the top 20 with “Te Felicito” last week (chart dated June 24).

The 35-year-old Colombian singer has secured his first No. 1 on Billboard’Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated November 19 as “Si Ya Hiciste El Mal,” his first collaborative effort with Luis R Conriquez, rises 2-1.

He becomes the second Colombian singer-songwriter to score a No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay in 2022: As “Si Ya Hiciste el Mal” hits No. 1, it sends Camilo, a core Latin pop Colombian artist, to No. 2 as “Alaska,” with Grupo Firme dips after its one-week command (chart dated November 12).

“Honestly, I’m extremely happy and grateful,” Uribe tells Billboard. “It’s a dream fulfilled. I have been a regional Mexican music lover since childhood, I am singer of regional Colombian music and to be the first one to achieve this, is an honor. Thanks to Luis, my team, and the listeners who have given us so much love.”

“Si Ya Hiciste el Mal” climbs from the runner-up spot after a 3% increase in audience impressions, to 7.1 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending November 13, according to Luminate.

The song gives Uribe his first leader on an airplay chart. He previously scored a No. 6 best with “El Alumno,” with Joss Favela, in May. Meanwhile, Conriquez clocks his second ruler: “JGL,” with La Adictiva, topped Regional Mexican Airplay for one week (September 10).

“Working with Jessie was a beautiful experience,” Conriquez tells Billboard. “We traveled to Colombia to record the song and our bonding was beyond great.”

Further, thanks to its radio reception, “Si Ya Hiciste el Mal” debuts at No. 50 on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart. It earns Uribe his first chart appearance. Conriquez claims his ninth entry.

The track also makes progress on the all-genre Latin Airplay chart jumping 10-8, the closest Conriquez has been to the top after another No. 8 high (“JGL” in the Sept. 10-dated ranking).

The 28-year-old Colombian Latin Grammy-winning singer has landed his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart as “Alaska,” his single with Grupo Firme, rises from the No. 4 slot to rule the November 12-dated list.

Camilo“Alaska” received its official release through Hecho A Mano/Sony Music Latin on August 18. It’s the sixth single from Camilo’s third studio album, De Adentro Pa’ Fuera, which reached a No. 6 high on Latin Pop Albums (September 24).

“Alaska” reaches the No. 1 slot, after a second week in the top 10 (No. 4 high, November 5-dated ranking) and in its eighth week on the chart boosted by a 25% increase in audience impressions, to 7.1 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 6, according to Luminate.

The regional Mexican tune, which was co-written and co-produced by Camilo alongside Edgar Barrera, dispatches Duelo’s “24 Siete” after it’s one-week command.

With seven No. 1s on its career history, Grupo Firme ties with Christian Nodal and Banda MS for the third-most champs this decade, trailing Calibre 50’s eight leaders. Since the chart launched in 1994, Calibre 50 continues at the helm with 22 No. 1’s.

“Alaska” becomes the first team-up by a regional Mexican group with a core Latin pop act to lead Regional Mexican Airplay since Natalia Lafourcade ruled for three weeks through her featured role in Los Angeles Azules’ “Nunca Es Suficiente” in 2019.

Meanwhile, “Alaska” earns Grupo Firme its fourth No. 1 in 2022, including “Cada Quien,” with Maluma, which topped the chart for two weeks in February

“Alaska” advances 11-7 on the overall Latin Airplay ranking, earning Camilo his 11th top 10 while Grupo Firme adds a sixth top 10 to its scoreboard.

The Colombian singer, musician and songwriter has joined voices with Grupo Firme to release the new banda anthem “Alaska.”

CamiloPowered by traditional banda instruments like the tuba and accordion, the heartbreak song is Camilo and the Mexican group’s first joint effort.

The track — which really thrives on a play on words à la Camilo — arrived alongside a music video directed by singer-songwriter Evaluna (also Camilo’s wife).

In it, Evaluna becomes the designated driver to Camilo and the Firme crew as they sing their sorrows away while taking more than a few tequila shots.

Ahead of the track’s release, Camilo expressed gratitude and admiration for the chart-topping band.

“We met in a hotel hallway and, since then, told each other we wanted to make music together,” Camilo shared in an Instagram post. “I love beautiful and transparent people like them.” Firme’s frontman Eduin Caz commented, “This song will be a smash hit because it was totally organic and real. We love you and your family.”

“Alaska” — produced and penned by Camilo and Edgar Barrera — marks the sixth single off his highly anticipated third album, De Adentro Pa Afuera, slated for release in September.

This is not the first time Camilo has dabbled with regional Mexican music.

In 2021, he teamed up with norteño duo Los Dos Carnales for “Tuyo Y Mío,” which is part of his Latin Grammy-winning album Mis Manos.

About his love for the genre, Camilo told Billboard at the time, “Regional Mexican music is also very ours as Colombians. I remember my parents would have family gatherings and they’d drink aguardiente with green mango while listening to corridos, rancheras and boleros. So, that sonority has been with me since I was little — it’s not foreign, and it’s a part of my sound.”

Both Camilo and Grupo Firme are confirmed for Billboard’s 2022 Latin Music Week, set to take place September 26-30 in Miami at the Faena Forum.

The 29-year-old Mexican American drag performer and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant will team up with some of her fellow queens and Broadway celebrities to get out the vote for November’s presidential election.

Valentina and divas from the drag world and icons of the stage will come together for Divas For Democracy: United We Slay, a one-night-only variety show extravaganza promoting voter participation and key issues relating to the LGBTQIA+ community in the upcoming 2020 election.

Presented by the nonprofit voter engagement organization Drag Out the Vote and hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race star Nina West and Entertainment Tonights Keltie KnightDivas for Democracy: United We Slay features scores of talent who’ll sing and lip-synch through dazzling performances of theater classics and pop songs.

Special segments will highlight LGBTQIA+ activists in a nonpartisan effort to shine a light on community participation in the political process, including celebrity appearances by Tony winner Cyndi LauperDrag Race panelist Michelle VisageHarvey Fierstein, James Monroe IglehartBianca Del RioShangelaCheyenne Jackson, Mila Jam, and Oscar-winning actress Allison Janney.

In addition to Valentina, other drag superstars slated to perform during the broadcast include AlaskaJinkx MonsoonJujubeePeppermintCynthia Lee FontaineShuga CainHoney Davenport, and Drag Out the Vote’s national co-chairs Brita Filter, Marti Gould Cummings, and Pixie Aventura.

Broadway figures set to appear include legendary three-time Tony-winning actress Chita Rivera, as well as Tony winners Stephanie J. Block, Lea Salonga, Nikki M. James, Beth Leavel and Annaleigh Ashford. Also joining the program are stage stars Shoshana Bean, Eden Espinosa, Jenn Collela, Chilina KennedyKeala Settle, Tamika Lawrence, L Morgan Lee, and Our Lady J.

The presentation will be directed by Josh Rhodes and Lee Wilkins, whose joint careers include work choreographing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CinderellaFirst DateIt Shoulda Been You, and Bright Star on Broadway. Tony winner Stephen Oremus will serve as music supervisor.

“One in five LGBTQIA+ people is not registered to vote, and 100 million people did not vote in the 2016 election. We must fix this,” said Drag Out the Vote founder Jackie Huba in a press statement. “We are excited to bring together the worlds of Broadway and drag to inspire voters to sashay their way to the polls or their mailboxes.”
