Gilberto Santa Rosa to Receive Honorary Doctor of Music Degree from Berklee College of Music

Gilberto Santa Rosa is set to receive a special honor…

Berklee College of Music has announced that the 61-year-old Puerto Rican bandleader and singer of salsa and bolero music, nicknamed “El Caballero de la Salsa“, is among the artists that will receive honorary Doctor of Music degrees during a commencement ceremony in May.

Gilberto Santa Rosa Santa Rosa will be recognized alongside Ledisi and Q-Tip.

Recognized for their contribution to the worlds of music and philanthropy, the artists will be celebrated with a reception and concert in the Agganis Arena, where over 200 student vocalists, instrumentalists, dancers, arrangers, and track producers will perform a musical tribute to the work of each of the honorees.

“Very honored and excited,” expressed Santa Rosa on Instagram. “Thank you for this distinction! Thank you all for the demonstrations of support and affection!!!”

Past Latin recipients from the college include Tito Puente, Gloria Estefan, Rita Moreno and Juan Luis Guerra.

The 30-year-old Puerto Rican rapper/singer has revealed the dates, venues and cities for his 2023 Vida Rockstar Tour.

Jhayco,Presented by Loud And Live, the tour will take him to 16 major U.S. cities, kicking off on September 28 at the Agganis Arena in Boston and wrapping on December 10 at the Hertz Arena in Ft. Myers.

In between the opening and closing dates, Jhayco (born Jesús Manuel Nieves Cortés and formerly known as Jhay Cortez) will also visit his loyal fans in Newark, Washington DC, Chicago, San Antonio, Dallas, Seattle, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Atlanta, and Miami, to name a few.

Fully embracing his “vida rockstar” season, fans can expect the edgy reggaetón artist to perform some of his greatest and viral hits including his song “Dakiti” with Bad Bunny, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart, and his latest singles “Cuerpecito” and the Quevedo-assisted “Mami Chula.”

In addition, the Vida Rockstar U.S. stint will offer VIP packages to give fans the ultimate concert experience.

Ticketmaster and AMEX pre-sale began on Tuesday, May 16; pre-sale for Spotify and Fan Club members begins at 10 a.m. (local time) on Wednesday, May 17; pre-sale for Loud And Live and venues begins at 10 a.m. (local time); and general public on-sale starts at 10 a.m. (local time) on Friday, May 19.

Nicky Jam to Launch ‘Infinity Tour’ Next February

Nicky Jam is heading back on the road…

The 40-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American rapper, singer and songwriter is returning to touring in his first official post-pandemic tour to kick off in early 2022.

Entitled the Infinity Tour after his upcoming studio album, which is set to be released this year, Nicky Jam will visit major cities across the U.S. and Canada, starting February 3, 2022, at Boston’s Agganis Arena.

He’ll then make pit stops in New York, Toronto and Los Angeles, before wrapping up March 27 at the WAMU Theatre in Seattle.

“Thank you, God, for allowing us to tour again. I’ll wait for you there,” the reggaeton artist, rapper and actor told his more than 41 million followers on Instagram.

On the tour, presented by CMN Events, Nicky will sing some of his biggest hits as well as his upcoming releases live for the first time.

Iglesias to Receive Honorary Degree from Berklee College of Music

It’s one degree of appreciation for Julio Iglesias…

The 71-year-old Spanish singer-songwriter, one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, will receive an honorary doctor of music degree from Berklee College of Music at the prestigious school’s commencement ceremony next month.

The recognition comes for Iglesias’ achievements and influences in music and for his enduring contributions to American and international culture, according to a press release.

Iglesias, a Grammy winner, has sold more than 300 million records worldwide in 14 languages and released more than 80 albums, with more than 2,600 gold and platinum records certified.

In April 2013, he was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Other honorees this year include Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris, jazz drummer Harvey Mason and singer-songwriter Dee Dee Bridgewater.

Past honorary degree recipients include Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie, Smokey Robinson, Steven Tyler, Loretta Lynn, David Bowie and Duke Ellington, who was the first to receive this honor in 1971.

The ceremony will be held May 9 at the campus’ Agganis Arena.

Per Berklee’s tradition, on the eve of the commencement ceremony on May 8, students will pay tribute to the honorees by performing music associated with their careers at Agganis Arena. The concert and ceremony are not open to the public.
