Since Aguilera last sat in the famous red leather chair, she got engaged to Matt Rutler earlier this year and gave birth to their daughter, Summer Rain Rutler, in August 2014.

When Aguilera returns to The Voice for its eighth season, she’ll rejoin longtime coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine — but this will be the first season she’ll compete against Pharrell Williams.

Shakira and Gwen Stefani filled in for Aguilera during her hiatus from The Voice, both earning critical acclaim.

Boneta Lands Recording Contract with Sony Music U.S. Latin

Diego Boneta is ready to make sweet music in America…

The 23-year-old Mexican actor and singer, who has made a name for himself in television and film, has landed a recording deal Sony Music U.S. Latin.

Diego Boneta

Boneta, best known for portraying Rocco on the Mexican telenovela Rebelde, is a rising star in Hollywood who has become a fixture on U.S. television with roles on MTV’s Underemployed, CW‘s 90210 and ABC Family‘s Pretty Little Liars. He’s also starred in several films, most notably the film adaptation of the Broadway hit musical Rock of Ages, where he starred as Drew Boley and performed nine tracks on the film’s acclaimed soundtrack.

Now, Boneta is hoping to advance his musical career further with his newly inked record deal with Sony Music U.S. Latin. The label plans to release material in both English and Spanish, beginning with an EP that could come out in early 2015.

“Diego is a brand and music is an integral part of his artistic identity,” says Sony Music U.S. Latin president Nir Seroussi, who plans to find Boneta opportunities in multiple media, including opportunities for Boneta’s music in the many films he acts in.

His upcoming projects include the horror flick Summer Camp and Pelé, the biopic about the legendary Brazilian soccer player, in which Boneta plays archrival Pedro alongside Vincent D’onofrio and Rodrigo Santoro.

“The idea is not to simply release an album but create a strategy that’s congruent with my career,” Boneta said in an exclusive interview with Billboard. However, Boneta points out, “Diego the actor and Diego the singer are managed completely separate from one another.”

Boneta actually started out as a singer, taking voice lessons when he was only 8 years old and becoming a finalist on music reality show Codigo F.A.M.A. when he was 12. At 15, Boneta landed his star-making role on the popular soap opera Rebelde and went on to release two successful solo albums with EMI.

By 2010, at 20 years old, Boneta was already making a mark in Hollywood with his roles in Pretty Little Liars and 90210, plus a role in Mean Girls 2. He was signed briefly to Adam Levine‘s label but finally went to Sony, where he’ll work in both languages and across many mediums.

Now, Boneta is writing new tracks even as he prepares to begin shooting the miniseries The Dovekeepers, from Roma Downey and Mark Burnett (The Bible).

The trick to the balancing act, he says, is “finding the time. I’d like to be doing what Justin Timberlake does.”

Sofia Vergara

Along with Vergara, the new additions to the list include Viola Davis, Allison Janney, Keegan-Michael Key, Lucy Liu, Debra Messing, Jordan Peele, Andy Samberg and Octavia Spencer.

Blacc to Release Repackaged and Enhanced Edition of “Lift Your Spirit”

It appears Aloe Blacc is ready to lift your spirits even further…

The 35-year-old Panamanian-American singer, riding high this year on the success of his third album Lift Your Spirit and the singles “The Man” and “Wake Me Up,” tells Billboard that he and his record label, Interscope, “are going to repackage the album” this summer for a uniform collection comprised of all the songs he released globally during the campaign.

Aloe Blacc

“I recorded about 40 songs, and you can only release 10 or 12 of them at a time,” Blacc explains. “The European version of the album had a different set of songs than the (American) version, a couple of songs that were different, so we’re going to get them all together and release all of the songs from across the world so that everybody gets every song and no territory is complaining about not having any particular song.”

Blacc adds that, “It was never my intention to release so many songs. I wanted to just have 10, but we had way more material than we expected that we considered worthy. But I think that’s OK. I think it’s OK to give people more than they expected.”

Blacc hopes to have the set ready “by the end of the summer or, probably, the beginning of the fall.”

Meanwhile, he says he’d like to release a follow-up to Lift Your Spirit “hopefully early next year” but acknowledges “maybe that’s too soon. It depends on what the label says. I’m definitely ready to release more music, because I’ve just got so much stuff recorded and so many other songs that I’m eager to record.”

Blacc has had no trouble staying busy outside of the study, with heavy touring — including dates opening for Bruno Mars — and a spot as a guest coach on Adam Levine‘s team during the latest season of The Voice.

He’s also featured on the track “The World is Ours” from the One Love, One Rhythm FIFA World Cup album, and he’s getting ready for his film debut in Get On Up, the James Brown biopic in which he plays Famous Flames guitarist Nafloyd Scott.

“That was a different challenge, it really was,” Blacc says. “Acting is something that requires a lot of patience, a lot of skill, a lot of internal reflection. It’s a whole new muscle I’m going to continue to develop, either writing screenplays and my own scripts or finding the best roles out there to challenge this new skill.” A dearth of information about his character, meanwhile, actually proved to be a blessing for Blacc.

“I had to learn it all,” he explains. “there isn’t much information about that time in (Brown’s) career available, no photos I could find of Nafloyd Scott on Wikipedia or anything. He wasn’t really part of the meteoric rise of James Brown — he quit the band because of personality conflicts, before it really took off. So it was all about having to learn from the script and some of the archival footage that was available. But it did make it a little bit easier to create my own character, which was nice for the first time doing this.”

Shakira Returning to NBC’s “The Voice” in Late February

It’s official… Shakira is heading back to NBC’s infamous red leather chair…

The 36-year-old Colombian superstar will reprise her role as a Season 4 coach on the network’s hit singing competition The Voice.

Shakira

Shakira, along with R&B singer Usher, will reunite with show regulars Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for The Voice’s sixth season.

Shakira and the men will return in a special two-night premiere: 8:00-10:00 pm on Monday, February 24, and 8:00-9:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25.

Last spring, Shakira and Usher were cast to fill in for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, respectively, on The Voice — the latter two original judge/mentors returned for the fall season.

It’s an arrangement the show’s producers appear to have institutionalized. And in doing so, The Voice has become a bastion of judge stability.

The Voice has averaged a 4.9 rating in the demo and 14.7 million viewers overall with its Monday edition, and a 4.5 and 14 viewers overall on Tuesdays, making it the No. 1-rated Monday and Tuesday series on the broadcast networks so far this season in the demo.

Shakira Returning to NBC’s “The Voice” for Season Six Next Spring

Shakira may be leaving The Voice after season four this summer… But it won’t be for long.

The 36-year-old Colombian singer and current coach on the hit NBC singing competition has finalized a deal to return to The Voice for season six in the spring of 2014.

Shakira

As announced earlier this week, Christina Aguilera will be returning to the red leather chair she vacated after the first three seasons, making way for Shakira to join the panel.

But after taking a cycle off to focus on her music, Aguilera is coming back for season five of The Voice this fall.

Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will continue and stay on the show for the next two seasons.

“It is almost all done and the network is looking to make the official announcements in the next few days,” a source told Deadline.com.

The fifth season of the show has already been fully cast and filming on the Blind Auditions portion of the season is set to begin on July 8.
