Sanchez’s Devious Maids Project May Be Heading to Lifetime

Even though ABC didn’t send Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids project starring Roselyn Sanchez to series, the project may be getting a lifeline…

Lifetime is reportedly reviewing the pilot, which didn’t make the cut of shows picked up by ABC for the upcoming fall season despite an all-star cast that includes the 38-year-old Puerto Rican actress/singer, as well as Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz, HeroesDania Ramirez and ScrubsJudy Reyes.

Devious Maids

Lifetime has had preliminary conversations with Devious Maids’ producers and ABC Studios about bringing the project to life at the women’s cable network, according to Deadline.com.

Lifetime has been looking at several recent pilots, as well as cancelled series like CBSUnforgettable. But Devious Maids seems to be closer than most to the new, younger and sexier direction the cable network is taking with series like The Client List. Additionally, Lifetime is the off-network home of Cherry’s recently retired hit drama Desperate Housewives, making Devious Maids a match maid in heaven for the show that helped make Eva Longoria an international star.

Based on a Mexican telenovela, Devious Maids—which is being executive produced by Longoriafollows four maids (Ortiz, Ramirez, Sanchez and Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.

Longoria to Executive Produce “Devious Maids” Pilot

Desperate Housewives may be coming to a close this season, but that doesn’t mean Eva Longoria’s relationship with the show’s creator Marc Cherry and ABC will end.

The 36-year-old Mexican-American actress, who will be stumping for President Barack Obama this election year, will serve as an executive producer on ABC/ABC Studios Devious Maids pilot, which like Desperate Housewives is a soap with four female leads.

Written by Cherry and based on a Mexican telenovela, Devious Maids follows four maids (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.

Longoria will executive produce alongside Cherry, Sabrina Wind, Paul Presburger, David Lonner, Larry Shuman, John Mass and Michael Garcia.

Along with dedicating time to her acting career, Longoria has been quite active behind the camera as a producer; setting several series projects over the past few years though her company Unbelievable Entertainment.

Devious Minds marks the first pilot she is executive producing.

Leguizamo to Star in ABC’s “Only Fools And Horses” Pilot

He only signed his development deal with ABC less than two weeks ago… But John Leguizamo is already getting to work on a comedy pilot for the network.

The 47-year-old Colombian actor/comedian has signed on to star in the ABC/ABC Studios multi-camera comedy pilot Only Fools And Horses.

John Leguizamo

Based on a British sitcom of the same name, the multi-camera comedy chronicles the misadventures of two streetwise brothers—Del (Leguizamo) and Rodney—and their aging grandfather as they drum up some seriously outrageous and morally questionable get-rich-quick schemes in their attempt to become millionaires.

Del, the older of the two brothers, is considered the leader of the group. He’s an overly confident con artist who trades crap out of the trunk of his car, cheerfully oblivious to his so-called “low-life scammer” status.

As part of the Emmy-winning comedian’s deal with ABC, if Only Fools And Horses does not get picked up as a series, the Alphabet Network will develop a single-camera comedy inspired by Leguizamo’s professional, personal and family life in New York City for him to star in and executive produce.

Leguizamo is currently touring with his fifth one-man show, Ghetto Klown.

Leguizamo Signs Development Deal with ABC/ABC Studios…

John Leguizamo could be appearing on the “Alphabet Network” in the near future.

The 47-year-old Colombian actor/comedian, currently appearing on the big screen in Katherine Heigl’s One for the Money, has signed a development deal with ABC and ABC Studios.

John Leguizamo

As part of the pact, Leguizamo will star in and executive produce a single-camera comedy inspired by his professional, personal and family life in New York City.

It would be the first comedy series for Leguizamo who previously co-starred on ER and The Kill Point and headlined the CBS drama pilot Edison.

The search is currently underway for a writer to pen the comedy project, which will likely be developed off-cycle given the timing of the deal.

Leguizamo, who will executive produce the show, will not be required to do an ABC pilot this season, but will be exposed to some and could take one on.

Leguizamo is currently touring the country with his fifth one-man show, Ghetto Klown, following a successful summer run on Broadway.

One of his previous stage shows, Freak, was broadcast by HBO and earned him an Emmy Award.

Rodriguez Signs Talent Deal with ABC/ABC Studios…

She’s already earning rave reviews for her starring role in Filly Brown, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival… And now Gina Rodriguez is preparing for the next chapter of her red-hot career.

Rodriguez, who received an Imagen Award nomination earlier this year for her work in the film Go For It!, has signed a talent holding deal with ABC and ABC Studios to star in a pilot targeted for next season.

Gina Rodriguez

She isn’t attached to a specific project yet, but Rodriguez could end up working on Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids, which revolves around four Latina maids in Beverly Hills.

Rodriguez, who has appeared on Army Wives, first gained the attention of network executives last year when she guest starred on ABC’s comedy Happy Endings.

The deal comes just shy of the world premiere of Filly Brown at the Sundance Film Festival this Friday.

The film, which centers on a young hip-hop artist from Los Angeles (Rodriguez) whose budding career comes to a crossroads when she’s offered a crack at stardom by a shady producer, has already been designated a must-see by film buyers.
