Long before being punched in the face by a dude while partying on the Jersey Shore, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi had to endure years of taunting as a teen guidette in New Jersey… And, now she’s opening up about the bullying in hopes of ending “digital drama.”
The 24-year-old Chilean-born reality television star has partnered with MTV to appear in a public service announcement for the network’s A Thin Line campaign, which aims to end sexting, cyberbullying and digital dating abuse.
Snooki admits that having to evade constant rumors about her promiscuity while a student at New York’s Malboro High School and dealing with her cruel haters helped give her a tough skin and make her a stronger person.
“As a freshman, I was bullied so much by the older girls. What I went through in high school made me who I am today: I’m very strong. [To] whoever talks about me, I’m like ‘Yeah, whatever,'” the reality star, who is reportedly expecting her first child, explains in the just-released PSA.
Currently filming her Jersey Shore spinoff with best friend Jenni “JWoww” Farley, Snooki hopes fans struggling with bullies will adopt the same philosophy that helped her not only survive but thrive as a teen.
“Do not live your life trying to please everyone else so they like you,” she says. “Just please yourself and if people doesn’t like you and they make fun of you, that’s their own problem.”
