Pedro Almodóvar is bringing a little pain and glory to Colorado…
Organizers have released the full schedule for this year’s Telluride Film Festival, with the 69-year-old Spanish filmmaker and Oscar-winning director’s latest film Dolor y Gloria (Pain and Glory) making the list.
The film, starring Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz, made its international debut at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where the film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or. At the festival, Banderas won the award for Best Actor and Alberto Iglesias won the award for Best Soundtrack.
Asif Kapadia documentary film Diego Maradona, about the legendary Argentine soccer star, will be screened at the festival.
The film, which features never before seen archival footage, documents and centers around the time Maradona changed from playing with FC Barcelona to S.S.C. Napoli in 1984 winning the 1988–89 UEFA Cup.
Fernando Meirelles’ latest project, The Two Popes, will have its world premiere at Telluride.
The Netflix film stars Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins playing Pope Francisand Pope Benedict, respectively.
Additionally, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, the documentary film about theGrammy-winning Mexican American singer/songwriter will also be shown at the festival.
The musical biography, which first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festivalin April, provides many examples of the glorious vocals that Ronstadt a superstar, and it also allows us to once again hear her voice as she narrates her story. The film astutely chronicles an amazing musical career that ended prematurely due to Parkinson’s disease.
This year’s Telluride Film Festival runs from August 30-September 2.
