He hasn’t brought RoboCop back to the big screen yet… But Jose Padilha has already set his sights on his next project.
The 45-year-old Brazilian filmmaker has teamed up with Gaumont International Television and Netflix for a drama series about notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar called Narcos.
The series, based on Padilha’s idea, will chronicle the life and death of Escobar, the coldblooded jefe of the Medellin Cartel. Escobar, a known terrorist who was also a congressman and family man, was revered by the poor as a modern-day Robin Hood.
Padilha will oversee and direct the 13-episode first season, which could make its debut on Netflix in 2014.
Padilha, who rose to acclaim in Brazil with his highly popular Elite Squad thrillers, is making his Hollywood directing debut with Sony/MGM’s upcoming RoboCop reboot.
